Cheney’s office advocated for Iran attacks ‘on a daily basis.’

The BBC reports:

[T]he new NIE will make it harder for proponents of military action against Iran to argue their case.

One source, who has close links to US intelligence, said that members of Vice President Dick Cheney’s staff continued to call for military strikes against Iran “on a daily basis”.

Atrios adds: “It must be understood that since our intelligence agencies don’t believe Iran has a nuclear weapons program, it also means that they don’t know where such a program would be physically located if it did exist. This means that any desires of Dick Cheney and his people to bomb Iran simply involve… bombing the shit out of Iran.”

I think this has been the plan all along. They are just patiently, gradually working their way through it (or should I say, lying their way through it).

I saw that too. It shows how much the neocons are still living in the past. The people of today’s Iran, most of which were born after 1979, think highly of US culture and want better relations. Drop one bomb on Iran and that all goes away. I was disappointed the other two pundits in the interview didn’t raise that point.

  14. And the beat goes on says:

This morning on Ed Schultz a caller pointed out that for the last several months Bush’s rhetoric has changed from “Iran producing” a nuke to “Iran gaining the knowledge” to produce a nuke. Like the caller said, how can you stop knowledge? The US has cherry-picked which countries it has allowed to “gain the knowledge” and “produce” weapons up to this point. I think the NIE was held up just long enough to modify their talking points. Nothing has changed other than the words. The drum beat remains the same.

Whoah! That’s one HUGE back-pedal from the “actively developing nuclear weapons” line. Almost gave the entire World whiplash!

Just think how close we came to a nuclear attack on Iran. Scary shit.

Pelosi and Reid deserve a large part of the blame for this situation. They took impeachment off the table.

Bush figured since Dems didn’t impeach him for lying us into war with Iraq, they wouldn’t impeach him for lying us into war with Iran.

I hope Pelosi and Reid know how close we came to WW3 due to their cowardice. They could’ve had 100’s of millions of deaths on their hands.

  23. Menehune says:

I know this will sound crazy, but what if they made a deal with bush to exchange no impeachment with no attack on Iran? It’s not like they could have locked him up from the jump. there would have been months of hearings and stone-walling and bush could have dropped the bomb at any time and once the bomb was dropped dems would be painted as trying to distract the “war prezdent” by fauwnewz et al. I know this sounds pretty much out in wingnutosphere, but what the hell, just a thought.

I’m sure there are a thousand secret deals we know nothing about. But I don’t think War-Monger Cheney would EVER make that deal. He makes his fortune killing innocent brown people. He’s might actually have to go out, get a job, and make an honest living.

  38. tarazan says:

And after a war starts with Iran, are we going to see Iranians waiting with flowers in hands for us just like the Iraqis did,and received us as ‘liberators’?

Cheney told Tim Russert on NBC ‘Meet The Press’ few days before the war started with Iraq in March of 2003 that Iraqis will recieve us as liberators, when asked a bout any military resistance by the Iraqis…Cheney then, did not think so.

Bush and Cheney still have one year left to rule and govern, and many things can happen in one year, since there is a lot to gain and lose in the coming next year elections.

Why should they overthrow that regime?

Maybe they’d be better off to “take it under advisement” to dispose of the voices in bush’s head that are telling lies about their country. In fact, why don’t you “take it under advisement” to remove your head from your ass.

Yup, and it’s all about the benjamins for the Dickster. Dickster, with bad heart and all, is still working around the clock on the koolaid crapola spin on Iran. Same Iraq playbook, same plan, but different country.

  46. gummitch says:

The Iranian govennment didn’t do it to help out with the fight against international terrorism considering they are a known sponsor of international terrorism. They did it because it was just another threat to their power in the region and they saw an opportunity to do something that they couldn’t do on their own if they tried. BTW they didn’t have a problem with letting al-Zarqawi slip thru their country into Iraq after the invasion of Afghanistan.

    Comment by Tracy2 — December 4, 2007 @ 2:52 pm

Oh my god! You mean the Iranians acted in their own self-interest? How, er, selfish of them. You certainly wouldn’t expect the US to act in its own self-interest, right? Well, you would, but that’s different, right?

You’d also like to substantiate your inference that the Iranians deliberately allowed Zarqawi to travel through their country? One person traveling through a country nearly the size of Alaska?

  47. gummitch says:

Iran has denied forever and day that a covert nuclear bomb building program has NEVER existed in their country.

    Comment by Tracy2 — December 4, 2007 @ 2:57 pm

  48. Bobwurst says:

    Re 51
Yes lies. The bush adminstration knew that the Iranians were not trying to build a bomb, yet they kept claiming the opposite. that is a lie.

“BTW they didn’t have a problem with letting al-Zarqawi slip thru their country into Iraq after the invasion of Afghanistan.”

Can you find any evidence of TP or any of us doing that while there was a Weapons program? No? Then they were apparently right, so what’s your point exactly?

You appear to be arguing just to argue and fail to admit that your bloodthirst for Iran is unfounded and hypocritical. Please take note and move on. You are wrong.

  56. tombaker says:

  57. ForTruth says:

It is possible that Cheney/Bush attempted to smuggle nuclear warheads away from our own airforce very recently. Remember when those nukes “accidentally” flew over the continental US to the ME staging area? The entire chain of command was broken on that one. I believe 14 signatures are needed just to load one armed missile on a plane. It was to bomb Iran or perform a false flag operation.
