The Crypt reports:
Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) has scheduled a committee vote Thursday on contempt resolutions against White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and former presidential political guru Karl Rove for failing to respond to subpoenas.
Under Judiciary Committee rules, the vote could be postponed for a week, but Leahy said he intends to move the criminal contempt resolutions as soon as possible. Last week, he rejected the White House’s executive privilege claim in preventing Rove and Bolten from appearing before his panel, calling it “overbroad, unsubstantiated, and not legally valid,” setting the stage for Thursday’s showdown.
Knowing Leahy, he’ll probably put off the vote and send Rove a stern letter.
I hope I’m wrong.
December 4th, 2007 at 10:04 pmsic em!
December 4th, 2007 at 10:08 pmSo do I, mark
Hey, Leahy, use ‘em the way the Good Lord intended, or start using the Ladies’ Room. We can’t stand this BS anymore.
December 4th, 2007 at 10:15 pmwhat? no more harsh letters and no more pleases?
hmm, im skeptical but intrigued.
December 4th, 2007 at 10:18 pmThe worst that can happen is Bush to pardon them for everything.
As long as the WH keeps bush-iting everything, nothing will happen. Just more pardons for criminals!
Congress has no backbone. So, it appears that as a nation we are in deep _hit!
December 4th, 2007 at 10:20 pmWake me up if something actually happens.
ZZZzzzZZZzzzz…..
December 4th, 2007 at 10:21 pmeven if shrub does pardon him…..the country will see it for what it is….and in the next election…….well….you know.
December 4th, 2007 at 10:23 pmI’m with you, beemerr90s. Believe when I see it. Leahy needs to stop crying wolf & drag the wolf (wolves) out of the shadows so the American People can see ‘em…
December 4th, 2007 at 10:26 pmLet’s give kkkarl his due . . . with extreme prejudice .
‘Terminating his command’, so to speak.
December 4th, 2007 at 10:27 pmIt’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Rove behind bars would be the perfect gift. If Rove flees the country, will they be drawing straws to see who gets to kidnap him and bring him back?
December 4th, 2007 at 10:39 pmHopefully, we’ll be forced to waterboard kkkarl, to get some answers outta him, Roket.
December 4th, 2007 at 10:41 pmThe big problem is The House or Senate does not have the numbers to actually accomplish much of anything that GW does not go along with. Most folks do not have ant idea of how powerful The POTUS actually is in regard to anything getting passed and signed into law.

Actaully, I think you’ve got it right there, especially in the Senate.
the Dems have SUCH a slim margin that it’s really not all that difficult for the GOOPers to pretty much bottle things up if they choose, and they have chosen.
Yes, Pelosi could initate impeach hearings, but get anything passed? Not very likely.
December 4th, 2007 at 11:33 pmSo, if you can’t get anything (you want) passed, don’t vote on anything you Don’t want – i.e. funding the Iraq occupation, attack on iran, etc. Bush does not control the agenda in congress – democrats do.
December 4th, 2007 at 11:54 pmIt will be interesting to see how the dems vote . . . how the dem canidates vote . . . assuming they vote.
I’m with zzzzzzz, nothing’s going to happen. Should happen, but won’t.
Why is that? Dems afraid of Rove? Rove’s got goods on dems? Fear of Rove?
No matter. Nothin’ will happen. Excuse being, “we’re focused on the campaign . . . can’t get distracted.
December 5th, 2007 at 12:38 am“Candidates.”
Spoke with friends of all parties about this tonight, consensus is, Rove is a powerful policial player, even in his retirement, and dems lack the spine to take him out.
Sad commentary on the dems. . . Wolfowitz is back, hardly a peep from democratics.
December 5th, 2007 at 12:44 amThe White House and the neocon idiots have an interesting tactic. Just ignore everyone’s requests an/or drag their feet until it’s practically too late.
This is what the the Bush is doing with his executive privilege BS. And Ken Blackwell just dragged his feet until it was time to certify the vote for the last Prez election.
It works so well! Especially when the congress was under Republican control. There was no oversight then.
Now, as you all have mentioned, the Dems are in power and they choose to only write STRONGLY WORDED LETTERS.
Wow! They are kicking azz and taking names. What’s next?
Threatening to ground them?
They know that they all will get away with it if they can just run out the clock. As we have seen in the past, no Prez ever gets investigated after they leave office. It’s like a magic get out of jail card!
December 5th, 2007 at 1:13 amI think many people have contempt for Karl Rove already.
Oh, wait, that’s because he didn’t testify… never mind. ;)
December 5th, 2007 at 1:20 amI think Leahy and Specter have a lovers pact. You talk big for your party and I will talk big for mine!! But you don’t actually have to follow through.
December 5th, 2007 at 1:39 amSorry, that is not true at all. Their lover’s pact is that they both speak out against the Rethugs. But it isn’t binding…clearly.
December 5th, 2007 at 1:42 amWe keep hoping for more than a “sound and fury signifying nothing”!
December 5th, 2007 at 7:10 amNow would be a perfect time to vote on the contempt charges. With the release of the NIE, Bush has lost what little credibility he had. No one believes him and gives him the benefit of the doubt, anymore. The timing is good for a contempt charge. Now if they’ll do it.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:30 amI don’t care if they “have the votes” or not. Let the conversation begin.
Has he changed the ink cartridge in his pen? Seems like Pat’s still many stern letters away from getting any answers.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:39 am“Leahy needs to stop crying wolf & drag the wolf (wolves) out of the shadows so the American People can see ‘em…”
They won’t look – it would interrupt Project Runway.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:27 amWell, I for one, vote to show contempt for Rove.
And to mock Frank M endlessly, too!
December 5th, 2007 at 9:00 amNo wonder Karl’s been making the media rounds lately. He wants to take the focus off of his illegal activities and place the focus on talking point lies that he developed. Now we understand, traitor Rove. Can’t wait to see you in handcuffs. Oh wait, they will probably have to taser Karl to put the cuffs on because he doesn’t like having people touch him.
December 5th, 2007 at 9:00 am“And to mock Frank M endlessly, too!”
Hear, hear. Although he probably won’t be able to follow the best of the mocking, which might be a waste.
December 5th, 2007 at 9:51 amI know what I would do as a someone who wants some action from the peoples party and I am beginning to think that they are not the party I grew up with, is to take that arrsehole and bank his head into the turnbuckes of the ring then tell the world what what kind of jerk this jerk is.
Then maybe a 2&1/2 yard load of offal delivered to his steps.
Yeah, thats the ticket
December 5th, 2007 at 10:29 amFor Sen. Leahy to drag it out some more is the best opportunity for success of the contempt charges. Set the vote for after the 2008 elections so there are overwhelming numbers of Dems in Congress. Other wise the unscrupulous Rethugs will shoot the vote down.
December 5th, 2007 at 10:36 amI’ll wait and see… the Democrats so far have done nothing important, nothing significant, nothing serious to stop the WAR CRIMINALS in the WH. Pelosi is just another puppet for the Republican… the Democrats (they are acctually Republicans dressed as D.) make a lot of noise, a lot of blah blah blah, but when it come to the crunch, they vote Republican… Shame on Pelosi! She should be taken “off the table!”
