Huckabee Clueless On Iran NIE: ‘No,’ Never Heard Of It

Huckabee Clueless On Iran NIE: ‘No,’ Never Heard Of It»

The Politico’s David Paul Kuhn asked former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-AR) what he thought of the new National Intelligence Estimate on Iran. Huckabee’s response? Hasn’t heard of it:

Reporter: I don’t know to what extent you have been briefed or been able to take a look at the NIE report that came out yesterday …

Huckabee: I’m sorry?

Reporter: The NIE report, the National Intelligence Estimate on Iran. Have you been briefed or been able to take a look at it –

Huckabee: No.

Reporter: Have you heard of the finding?

Huckabee: No.

huck

UPDATE: The Chicago Tribune also has the story:

I don’t know where the intelligence is coming from that says that they suspended the program and how credible that is versus the news that they actually are expanding it,” [Huckabee] said. “And then I’ve heard the last two weeks supposed reports that say that they are accelerating and could be having a reactor in a much shorter period of time than originally they thought.”

UPDATE II: Hotline adds: “Huckabee’s ignorance of the news of the day, which not only dominated the Democrats’ debate here in town but also prompted a presidential press conference in response, came as Huckabee faced questioning about his foreign policy credentials on Don Imus’s new show. Huckabee joked that he’s ‘not an expert… but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night‘ — a play on a current silly ad for a motel.”

UPDATE III: The National Review’s Byron York suggests Huckabee’s inability to afford “teams of advisers” and develop “carefully-thought-out policy positions” are to blame.

Digg It!

Well, that is not going to be encouraging for anyone who is favoring Huckabee.
I guess God didn’t send him a message yet.
But his staff certainly should have prepared him for the inevitable question.

  12. AngryOne Says:

President Bush’s amen corner in the conservative commentariat is apoplectic over the new National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) on Iran. After all, the report’s conclusion that Tehran suspended its nuclear weapons program inn 2003 knocked the legs out from their “World War III” rhetoric. And as you’d expect, the same people who helped bring you the war in Iraq are now quick to claim CIA incompetence and conspiracies are behind the new assessment.

    For the details, see:
“Right Claims Iran NIE a CIA Plot Against Bush.”

  14. Veritas Says:

This cluelessness will cost Huckabee. He’s just gained some popularity and now he’ll return to being at the back of the heap for his ignorance - if that’s really what it is. Perhaps he’s not such an honest individual after all? I’d be very frightened that the man wishing to be president isn’t aware of what NIE actually means and was out of the loop of prominent news in this country for the past two days.

Where was Huckabee? Under some rock?? He definitely does not deserve to be president with this level of ignorance. Pathetic actually.

  15. Lefty Patriot Says:

Huckabee has now been shown to be the fundy moron we all knew he was. Proof of the anti?Americanism of the righties is that they will not acknowledge the obvious lack of qualification for this brainless idiot to be a gameshow host, never mind president. Perfect Republican.

  16. Veritas Says:

    Comment by Veritas — December 4, 2007 @ 11:13 pm

That’s true - I mean, the United States would never elect someone President who didn’t have a really firm grasp of foreign policy. Can you imagine what it would be like if we elected a President who didn’t know the name of, say, the leader of Pakistan?

  19. Jane E. Schneider Says:

Veritas, I’m not so sure. I think it’s more likely that some staffer will get fired for not informing him, and he’ll be excused because he must be real busy campaigning and praying. Now, if it was Rudy, on top of all the other crap that’s finally hitting the rest of the nation and not just us NYers, something like this might have sunk him for good. (pardon my inelegant English tonight, I’m tired.)

  20. had enough Says:

    Huckabee clueless on Iran NIE
because goppers are only interested in Gays, God, Guns and immigration…those wedge issues that never get solved so they will always be available to distract, divide and conquer.

  21. SP Biloxi Says:

Huckleberry Hound’s response: “Hasn’t heard of it.”

Must be something in the water. First, Bush said that he wasn’t told of the NIE and now Hucklebee hasn’t heard it. Did Hucklebee ask God since he is the only candidate that can call God on the phone?

  26. The Republic of Stupidity Says:

And he’s being crucified, ta boot… too funny.

  27. Marie Says:

    Let’s see:
As governor Huckabee released a convicted rapist (he even went before the parole board to make his case) and the man subsequently raped and killed a woman.
He has made some ridiculous claims about his faith concerning creation and his talks with the almighty. He may appeal to some, but he is really turning many others off.
He doesn’t have a lot of money, nor a lot of staff (hence, he doesn’t get info on current news), so his campaign is not well.

Giuliani is losing popularity by the day, scandals, poor judgment of characters, and today he made another ridiculous comment about 9/11 and his career.

Romney hired illegal immigrants to do his lawn.
    Tancredo did the same.
McCain will sink a little more now because his support of Bush.

These guys are going down in flames. One has to be left standing, but there isn’t a worthy one in the bunch. People may gravitate to Ron Paul, until they realize that he would attempt to darn near shut down the entire government.

The republican party cannot possibly believe that this boob, along with Romney, Thompson, Giuliani, etc., are the best they have to offer America. Ron Paul is the actual only hope for the republican party and HE’S the one they are trying to brand as a ‘lunatic’! Talk about bass ackwards.

I have to admit… **guilty, furtive look**… that I was, ahem, one of the guilty parties.

There was just this… “sense”… especially in light of BruschCo’s most recent lies involving Iran and just how F-in’ the Admin has been trying to justify an attack, that folks are just at the breaking point.

And Keltoi was trying this “Can’t we just be reasonable here?” schtick, and folks were just just screamin FFFF-UUUUU!!! (as loud as a post can get). That’s all I feel like doing.

I mean, after all the hideous death and destruction in Iraq over the last 4 yrs, and all the lies scumbags like Rove and Limbaugh and O’Reilley have told and how those of us who oppose this endless Sh*t have been branded as Islamofascists and terrorist coddlers blah-blah-blah, to catch Brusch in yet ANOTHER hideous lie meant to justify potentially a nuclear attack on another ME country, and then have Brusch simply pretned he can say he only heard the news a few days ago…

Huckabee’s apparent ignorance with regard to foreign policy issues would be damaging if he were a Democrat. Republicans, however, are primarily interested in a candidate’s ability to sound tough, and to express contempt for those who deliver information that is inconvenient to their agenda. This will not hurt Huckabee. In fact, it might even help him.

  92. Jim Says:

#92: Huckabee is an outlier in what sense? Last I heard, he’s polling #1 among the Republicans in Iowa.

Talking tough is one of the hallmarks of being a Republican. Bellicose talk on Iran, a willingness to authorize torture, suspension of habeas corpus, eschewing the Bill of Rights, firing judges and administrators who don’t toe the party line–these are core Republican values. Of course, none of this actually means being tough. To Republican voters, it’s the appearance of being tough that matters.

All 16 American spy agencies agree that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003

  100. Bush Cover Ups Says:

Saeed Jalili, Iran’s nuclear negotiator, also expressed confidence over the future of the country’s nuclear programme,

Jalili said the report showed Iran had been right to insist its nuclear programme was peaceful.

Asked if the report would improve the conditions for resolving the nuclear standoff, Jalili said: “Normally it should be this way.”

“After the report of Mohamed El-Baradei [director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)] and this report, the justice of the Iranian position has been confirmed.”

El-Baradei, whose inspectors have been investigating Iran’s nuclear programme for four years, called for immediate negotiations between Iran and its western critics.

ONCE AGAIN I URGE THE DEMOCRATS TO HAVE DIRECT TALKS WITH IRAN ,,,,,,,, Including you Hillary warhawk Clinton

  101. Kane Says:

It’s not Huckabee’s fault. The reporter failed to present the question in the proper form of, What would Jesus do with the NIE?

  102. Bush Cover Ups Says:

George Bush, the US president, will visit the Middle East in early January, the White House has said.

Sorry Mr Bush but all middle east leaders will be on Holiday to further notice

  103. Bush Cover Ups Says:

Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination, expressed incredulity that Bush, “who gets briefed every morning, who is fixated on Iran,” had not sought details of the new assessment after learning of it in August.

“I can’t believe that,” he said in a phone call with reporters. ‘

Dont worry Mr Biden , neither do I or the American public and whats worse is neither do, germany , france & Uk or other nations…….

Mr Bush nearly started WW111 ,

  104. Bush Cover Ups Says:

ONCE AGAIN I URGE THE DEMOCRATS TO HAVE DIRECT TALKS WITH IRAN ,,,,,,,, Including you Hillary warhawk Clinton

  105. Bush Cover Ups Says:

US that have threatened and continue to threaten to wipe IRAN off the map with nuclear weapons.

  106. tarazan Says:

Huckabee: “If the Iranian’s reactors has anything to do with ‘evolution’..you know, I’m against that”. !!

  107. Bush Cover Ups Says:

Australia - George Bush the president that cried Wolf

  108. Doc Rock Says:

No to worry! When he’s president, a Dick Cheney will take care of his foreign policy needs!

  109. Bartolo Says:

Perhaps Huckabee spent most of yesterday taking calls from God, and if the latter felt the NIE unimportant, who are we to question that?

  110. celtic cynic Says:

Huckabee - another well-unqualified idiot drinking out of the same toilet.

  111. Xisithrus Says:

He should’ve just made something up, like Hillary does.
    Comment by muckdog — December 4, 2007 @ 10:41 pm

Maybe he should have coined a new word..like misremembered.
    Perhaps misknowed?

  112. Perry logan Says:

Hillary makes stuff up? Does that mean the 83% of blacks who approve of her are stupid?

  113. Menehune Says:

Of course Huck didn’t know. The NIE was released on the Fifth Day of Creation. Man wasn’t around until the middle of the Sixth Day.

  114. Menehune Says:

118… a team which our current President apparently doesn’t have or it least that’s what he’d like you to believe.

  115. pluege Says:

OT: looks like one or more of Huckabee’s republican colleagues are going nuclear on him: the Dumond story hit the MSM this morning. For that to happen with this very old story kicking around the progressivsphere for months with not a hint in the MSM, the story must have garnered republican sponsors.

  119. theswan Says:

Typical republican response. A presidential contender without a clue. Who could be looking for four more years in the bubble? Hang it up sir!

“So the big story here is that a candidate busy making 15 + campaign stops a day had not yet had time to read a report that had come out just one day prior?
    cold_souless_troll”

The big story is that he hasn’t even heard of it when it’s been all over the news. The big story is that he was on the Imus show, which has news updates and he still didn’t know about the NIE. The big story is he released a convicted rapist when he was gov. of Ark. because the guy raped a distant relative of Bill Clinton and then his buddy rapist raped and killed two more women before he was caught.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ 2007/ 12/ 04/ documents-expose-huckabee_n_75362.html

The big story is that huckabee is just one more phoney bible thumping incompetent redneck repbulican governer who should NEVER see the inside of the oval office.

  121. barfly Says:

“So the big story here is that a candidate busy making 15 + campaign stops a day had not yet had time to read a report that had come out just one day prior?”

And been the top media story since then. A guy who wanted to be president would know it’s important, and if he wanted to distance himself from the pack intellectually, he’d have been the first talking about it. That he didn’t even know what it was echoes the current president’s incurious nature. I think we can agree that we don’t need any more Bushes running things.

And don’t forget, he paid himself to be his own”media consultant,” out of campaign contributions.

Maybe he delearned what he unheard and as a result he predisremembered the facts of the case because he was busy text messaging god?

Do you believe Ignorance of the NIE report by Mike Huckabee was a good strategy?

    Re barfly,

“And don’t forget, he paid himself to be his own”media consultant,” out of campaign contributions”

I didn’t know that, maybe he should fire his media consultant then if he’s that incompetent…

I think you might be underdismisestimating Huckleberry because you remisdisunderstoodified what he meant.

I read it in an editorial, in the San Diego UT. They’re a conservative rag, and even they don’t like Huckabee’s odor.

  129. bernard quatermass Says:

“Well, is it a surprise the man had not heard of some obscure report? What relevance does this obviously biased report have on the GOP primaries?”

HA HA HA HA. Oh, Frank M., you make it too easy.

    So I will pass.

  130. Klem Kiddilehopper Says:

Huck’s got GGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE’us, that’s all that counts these days is it?

  131. Jim Says:

#116: What relevance does this obviously biased report have on the GOP primaries?

It’s “obviously biased” for you, Frank, because anything that doesn’t conform to your preconceived notions must be biased. I’m sure you’re one of the true believers who still thinks that Saddam Hussein had nuclear weapons.

You may be correct, though, that this won’t hurt Huckabee in the GOP primaries. Most Republicans (including yourself) don’t care about facts–they care only about how to quickly and efficiently start the next war.

  132. Jim Says:

#118: So the big story here is that a candidate busy making 15 + campaign stops a day had not yet had time to read a report that had come out just one day prior? So what. He’s a recently surging candidate with a small staff of advisors. When he is president, he will have a large team of people to advise him of such things as they happen.

A candidate does not need “a large team of people” in order to read the newspaper. If he does (as is the case, for example, for the current White House occupant), then he probably shouldn’t be President of the United States.

  133. bernard quatermass Says:

“When he is president, he will have a large team of people to advise him of such things as they happen.”

Yes, and when you take over Santa’s position at the North Pole, you will have lots of friendly elves to help you make the toys.

  134. Aanya Says:

Huckster is just hopefully a passing phase. The choice for the rethugs must be even more pitiful than I thought, when that Hayseed looks good to anyone! No more Jesus freaks in the White House. That guy would most likely make Bush look Godless! Evidently a strong religious faith doesn’t guarantee a president with any respect for human life !

  135. progresivo Says:

Are these the ones who want to compete agains Hillary or Obama ?? We all know the Reps lost his mind ages ago, but they used to be good at elections .. well .. used to be.

  136. Leftside Annie Says:

Crikey. Ol’ Huckaboob’s certainly showing off his multitudinous presidential qualifications, isn’t he…??

    *BAER* (Big Ass Eye Roll)

  137. RUCerious Says:

The Huckster once again exposed as an ignoramus first class.

  141. Lora Says:

I really have to wonder if the Republicans plan on nominating anyone competent.
    Comment by Wayne A. Schneider — December 5, 2007 @ 12:36 am

Wayne S., you certainly must know that being incompetent and/or ignorant is the number one qualification for Republican office nowadays. In that sense, Huckabee, the candidate favored by Tracy2 troll, is perfectly qualified.

  142. Tender Chicken Says:

Huckabee is just clueless, period. We’ve already had a clueless president. We don’t need another one.

  143. Ditch Mitch KY Says:

Bush didn’t read the NIE Report — why should we expect Huckabee to read it? Do these two clowns read anything?

  144. Diana Moneymaker Says:

God must have been too busy to give Mike a call.

  145. Aldell1 Says:

Open your eyes and see past the 1 liners. This guy is not what America needs. Do not let your religious beliefs cloud your clear thinking. He left Arkansa in a mess. He is not qualified for the job. check out taxhikemike.org. He sucks up to varios causes & groups to gain popularity. He may be cleaver, but he most definitely is not smart. He is not being honest with America. Don’t fall for the one liners and get fooled. Didn’t we learn our lesson already. The next one will be much worse. Please find another candidate to support.
