With an appearance on Fox News Sunday this weekend and an op-ed in the Financial Times on Sunday, former Bush political adviser (and new Newsweek contributor) Karl Rove has been busy injecting himself into the public discourse this week. Rove drew “a range of protesters” to a speech at Duke University last night, where he claimed “the United States has nothing to apologize in its conduct in the world“:
“The United States has nothing to apologize in its conduct in the world,” he said to the audience.
Rove’s presence attracted a range of protesters and civil rights activists who yelled phrases like “You are a murderer” and held up signs that read phrases such as “LIAR” and “Arrest Him.” An activist dressed as a prisoner also came protesting Rove and the United States government’s stance on torture.
In an interview with the Washington Times yesterday, Rove also threatened that “nobody can risk looking disrespectful to the president without paying a price, and [Republican presidential candidates] need to understand that.”

And we wonder where the arrogance comes from with this administration. They really think their s–t doesn’t stink.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:02 pmwhy isnt bush campaigning for the republicans then rove?
R O T F L M F A O !
we all know why he isnt.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:03 pmI think Rove is the most deluded Republicans out there.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:07 pmThe frightening thing is I think he actually believes we have nothing to apologize for and that’s actually more scary than knowing there is a lot to be sorry for and just not giving a crap.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:08 pmRove also threatened that “nobody can risk looking disrespectful to the president without paying a price,
Oh, shut up.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:10 pmWhy doesn’t every understand that the Presidency is sacred! Criticizing it is tantamount to treason! Look at what happened when people bashed Clint-…
Wait a tic….
December 4th, 2007 at 12:11 pmKarl Rove has been busy injecting himself into the public discourse this week…
…instead of injecting himself into Jeff Gannon.
KKKarl, you’re irrelevant, just like the stooge you work for. In light of the NIE cover-up, you’re also a liar and a treasonist.
How’s that working out for you?
December 4th, 2007 at 12:13 pmNow Karl, run along and join Tommy DeLay in the Dust Bin of Insignificance.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:14 pm“The United States has nothing to apologize in its conduct in the world,â€
And that’s why he is an immoral POS Fascist Pig Repukian Scum Sucking Neanderturd, and that is exactly why the repukians need to put out of government and shut down for the good of the country.

December 4th, 2007 at 12:14 pm“nobody can risk looking disrepectful to the president.”
to wit I add
I’m glad that I’m an American
and I’m glad that I’m free
but I wish I was a little doggie
and W. was a tree.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:16 pmRove also threatened that “nobody can risk looking disrespectful to the president without paying a price,
In other words, the Eleventh commandment has just been changed. Now it’s “republicans don’t speak ill of the president - without paying a price.”
9/11 did change everything.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:18 pmI think what Rove meant is that no one should expect to disrespect a member of the Bush crime family without fear of payback.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:19 pmRove seems to be popping up all over the place lately. So much for spending more time with family… He lied? I’m shocked! /sarcasm
December 4th, 2007 at 12:22 pmhe claimed “the United States has nothing to apologize in its conduct in the world“:
Keep it up Rovester, and the Dem sweep in 08 will reduce the Republican congressional caucuses to a Starbucks lounge crowd.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:23 pmI have nothing to add, you all did a great job in conveing my thought’s along with your’s….Let me just say I love you Uncle Ho…..Blessings
December 4th, 2007 at 12:23 pmI’m all broken up in tears. Tubby McTreason Rove is shown no love from the protesters. No surprise of Tubby receiving the backlash from protesters from his constant lying and covering the ass for the Bush Administration on Faux Nooz. Thanks to Tubby, the protesters will send a message to the GOP candidates. Payback is a b*tch.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:24 pmKarly is going to look delicious in his orange jump suit. And the chain accessories will be a real accent.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:24 pmRover is really trying hard to rehabilitate GDumbya’s reputation these days.
He actually thinks that it’s possible. Of course, he also thinks that it is possible to pick up a turd from the clean end.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:24 pmRove Speak:
“You may end up with a different math, but you’re entitled to your math. I’m entitled to the math.” –
“As people do better, they start voting like Republicans - unless they have too much education and vote Democratic, which proves there can be too much of a good thing.”
“Just get me a f**king faith-based thing. Got it?” –as quoted in a book by David Kuo, the former second-in-command of Bush’s Office on Faith-Based Initiatives
December 4th, 2007 at 12:24 pmOkay, I accept the challenge: I have no respect for George W. Bush. He is a vile liar, a criminal, and a thief. He is the lowest form of human and his mother smells of elderberries, his father of dingleberries.
There, Rove. Whatcha’ gonna’ do?
December 4th, 2007 at 12:26 pmThe sort of price paid by repubs in the last election or the sort of price paid by gitmo inmates?
December 4th, 2007 at 12:27 pmRove considers himself “the President” so when you bash Bush you are bashing Rove. Which reporter tried to talk with him recently and he told them they had no right to touch his arm. This guy is more delusional than Bush if that is possible.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:29 pmHe isnt’ a Turd Blossom. He’s just a …turd.
A giant, stinking, rotting, festering turd.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:31 pmMaybe Daddy Bush will get his Supreme Court to appoint Karl to the Presidency.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:35 pmWhen Laura Bush said Rove was a necessary evil [disrespecting him]…he was officially tossed under the bus.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:39 pmHANG ROVE! I HOPE HIM, CHENNEY AND BUSH WILL END THE SAME WAY MUSSOLINI DID! THEIR BODIES HANGING UPSIDE DOWN AND PEOPLE SPITING ON IT!
December 4th, 2007 at 12:40 pmSacopenapa, I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:43 pmEven though I am a Democrat, any Republican that would publicly disrespect Bush and/or his corrupt administration would have a pretty good chance of getting my vote.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:48 pmI would like to see all those who participated in allowing this White House to kill 3,875 troops and Iraqi innocents humiliated, scorned and even thrown out of the country. They should not be allowed to be called Americans
December 4th, 2007 at 12:49 pmEach and every village, hamlet, town and city in America should erect a fitting tribute to G.W. Bush in their town square.
A two foot statue with urinal drain and appropriate odor reducing cake.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:50 pm.
LOL
Rove, a contributor to Newspeek Ragazine?
.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:51 pmIs it any surprise that a sociopath like Rove wouldn’t see a need to apologize for anything?
December 4th, 2007 at 12:53 pm.
Gee Mr Rove,
THOU SHALL NOT KILL.
No repentance? NONE?
I guess you failed that test, too.
.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:54 pmwould someone finally just beat the sh*t outta that guy???
December 4th, 2007 at 1:07 pmI think Time magazine is finding it difficult to find someone to defend the Right’s agenday otherwise why pick Rove ? His reputation is dispicable, right down there with his love Bush.
December 4th, 2007 at 1:16 pmRove also threatened that “nobody can risk looking disrespectful to the president without paying a price”
————————————————-
Does this mean that Rove is attempting to paint Bush as a man wildly popular with his own party, and to diss him would be political suicide?
Or is this an actual threat — meaning, “disrespect Bush and we will ruin you with all the blackmail material Darth Cheney has gathered on you.”?
December 4th, 2007 at 1:23 pmwould someone finally just beat the sh*t outta that guy???
Comment by tombaker — December 4, 2007 @ 1:07 pm
Who’s got the time for such a monumental task? I mean, that’s a lot of sh*t to beat!
December 4th, 2007 at 1:27 pmand the price is…
You too could become president.
December 4th, 2007 at 1:48 pmMiss Molly, I agree with your last comment, a thinly veiled threat to the Republicans that would speak out. However, I have heard several Republicans come out with derrogatory comments even last night on Lou Dobbs. Surprise surprise.
December 4th, 2007 at 1:51 pmBut you can’t keep all the lids on the bubbling pots.
Rove also threatened that “nobody can risk looking disrespectful to the president without paying a price.”
Does he know something the rest of us don’t, and need to? Is Bush going to punish wayward Repubs when he declares marial law?
This is the best reason ever for voting for progressive candidates.
December 4th, 2007 at 2:00 pm“nobody can risk looking disrespectful to the president without paying a price, and [Republican presidential candidates] need to understand that.â€
Did he say that with a Tony Soprano impersonation?
December 4th, 2007 at 2:11 pmYou all should read “Somebodies & Nobodies - Overcoming the Abuse of Rank” - Robert W. Fuller. Bush is no more important than all of us!
December 4th, 2007 at 2:13 pmCan’t somebody at least hit the man in the face with a pie?
December 4th, 2007 at 2:17 pmCan’t somebody at least hit the man in the face with an axe?
December 4th, 2007 at 3:17 pmRove sure is “spending alot of time with his family”.
December 4th, 2007 at 3:49 pmIsn’t that why he “resigned”?
Also, like I’ve said a million times, none of these Bushies will ever be able to show their faces in public for the rest of their miserable lives without feeling the wrath of the American people, and that’s a beautiful thing!
These bastards deliberately divided our country for their own political benefit, derisively ridiculed more than half the country and would only appear before well screened, highly partsian right wing audiences.
Now that they don’t have the luxury of having the Secret Service kick out American citizens from their public appearences, they are getting a good dose of their own medicine.
I hope nitwit Bush is paying close attention to what is in store for him. Gone-zo, Rummy and Rove aren’t faring too good at their public appearences. The only places they are welacome are hard core right wing extremist organizations.
What a pity.
But remember one thing, this is their own doing. They wanted it this way.
Karma is a b*tch.
Good point. Rove was supposed to have resigned but he just can’t stay away because Bush is sinking like a stone. Isn’t it pointless to try to cover for Bush at this stage of the game? Just more empty threats from thin-skinned Rove.
December 4th, 2007 at 4:12 pmSo now all Rover has left is the “respect the office” line? The office of the President was disrespected the day Bush took the oath.
December 4th, 2007 at 5:04 pmRove knows that any apology is a tacit admission of guilt. He won’t have that.
December 4th, 2007 at 5:10 pmI think Time magazine is finding it difficult to find someone to defend the Right’s agenday otherwise why pick Rove ? His reputation is dispicable, right down there with his love Bush.
Comment by texaslady — December 4, 2007 @ 1:16 pm
It was Newsweak, not Time! Time turned him down.
December 4th, 2007 at 5:44 pm“nobody can risk looking disrespectful to the Godfather without paying a price, and the other hoods need to understand that.â€
Isn’t that a line from Mean Streets?
December 4th, 2007 at 8:28 pmSo, Karl beats his flabby chest, declaring (as stated in the article above) — “the United States has nothing to apologize in its conduct in the world“.
Quote by someone who fired Karl from working on his campaign –
“I will never apologize for the United States of America - I don’t care what the facts are.” George H. W. Bush, Newsweek, (Commenting on the shooting down of an Iranian airliner by the U.S. warship Vincennes, killing 290 passengers.), August 15, 1989
Karl really needs to come with more original material.
December 4th, 2007 at 9:59 pmThe man is without conscience and has shown nothing but contempt for the American People since he started trashing Dubya’s opponents beginning with Ann Richards in Texas.
Some might be tempted to pity ol’ Turd Blossom as he struggles to remain relevant, but he has done too much damage and has treated the Truth as his own personal plaything for far too long to merit anyything but scorn. Not only should he be protested against, he shuld be shunned. And he should be laughed at whenever possible. When Rove was still facing possible criminal charges, a Boston Globe columnist suggested that he “keep his chins up.” I wish I’d said that.
Rove’s sins are many, but I’ll close with the one I think most vile, that shoulds not be forgotten. Several years after 9/11, before a friendly crowd (of course), he suggested that while conservatives were ready to fight the terrorists, liberals wanted to understand them and give them therapy. The press focused only on the inaccuracy of the claim. What needs to be recognized is the utter cowardice of his words. Why did he wait four years to say it? Why indeed. And what about the heroes who died that day, might not some of them have been liberal? And wasn’t Bush’s main ally in Iraq Tony Blair of the Labor Party? The press should have nailed the little worm and Bush should have been pressured to publicly admonish him. This, of course, didn’t happen. And now, the Honorable Mr. Turd Blossom is trying to rewrite history. The mind reels.
December 5th, 2007 at 1:50 amDefinition: Rove-something you squeeze out of a pimple.
December 5th, 2007 at 10:22 amWhat’s distressing here is that Newsweek is giving him a forum and the Financial Times published his op-ed.
Rove is one of the villians of American history, one of those responsible for ruining, among other things, our public discourse.
This discredited traitor should be in a corner talking to himself.
