No mysterious explosives or secret plans. For whatever reason, George Bush, faced with a terrorist alert, did nothing. He didn’t do what Clinton and Clarke had done.

I bring this up because Beck and O’Reilly keep going on sbout evil Radical Islam. My pointis that Radical Islam is only a deadly danger because theBush-Cheney junta allow it to be. They let Osama Bin Laden go at Tora Bora because they needed a bogeyman. None of what they have done has reduced the terrorist threat–because it’s useful.
Radical Islam is a bogeyman the Right likes–because they know it’s not really dangerous. We say we beat the Axis and the Soviet Union without suspending the constitution and the Gene (At least Westmorelsnd actually wanted to win in Vietnam.)
Southern Man trots out beheadings, supposedly to terrify us. After the Nazis, after reading Solzhenitsyn, after watching The Killing Fields, a beheading is supposed to horrify us? The Japanse routinely beheaded prisoners of war during World War II, and they’re our highly civiulized friends who sell us Hello Kitty handbags!

Most of the American public doesn’t buy this any more. Most of the rest of the world never did. And, ultimately, most of the advocates of the War of Civilizations don’t either. Look at what they do rather than what they say: If it were important to ‘win’ in Iraq, we’d have a draft and a million men therewith Rolling Thunder criss-crossing the map. If WMD’s were important the North Korean missile would have been bombed at the launch pad, and we’d have acarrier group poised of Pakistan’s shore.
Does an Administration that actually fears the Global Caliphate turn American port security over to Muslims? They do not.
