Savage echoes Rush: Gay general is a ‘phony general.’

At a recent CNN/YouTube presidential debate, Brig. Gen. Keith Kerr, an openly gay man, asked the Republican candidates why they “think that American men and women in uniform are not professional enough to serve with gays and lesbians.” On his radio show yesterday, right-wing host Michael Savage said that Kerr is a “gay, phony general“:

CNN is a bear trap for anybody conservative. Look what they did the other night, last week rather, with the YouTube/CNN debate, when they put a planted, gay, phony general in the audience to throw out a question, and then Anderson Cooper followed up with intelligible, “Did you get the question answered adequately?” That’s your idea of a fair debate? It’s like a Stalinist show trial.

Savage’s line echoes that of Rush Limbaugh, who recently attacked soldiers who speak out against the Iraq war as “phony soldiers.”

Excellent. The more these guys use the epithet “phony” in connection with real soldiers and officers, the harder it gets for them to claim that they didn’t really mean to smear actual servicemen and women.

    You go, Beckerhead!

Oh brave soldiers of the airwaves! How honorable it is to fight the good fight planted squarely on your cankerous asses!

  4. alphainfinityomega says:

Savage is a phony talk show host with a phony talk show and a phony audience.

  5. Imichael says:

Savage is the lowest form. If I ever see this man I will personally kick his ass. To call a general phony is cowardess since Savage never served his country.

  6. Menehune says:

And Savage–no it wasn’t our idea of a fair debate. It looked more a softball game played by second-graders.

Wow… it’s a compound talking point… a little Tony Snow(show trial)… add in some reference to communism(actually Stalin was an old fashion dictator) and a conspiracy…. and you have it!

Does that make Larry Craig (R-ID) a “phony Senator”?

  10. JMOHR says:

It is just time to start taking out these “phony” Americans (Republicans and conservatives) and make the streets run red with their blood. They do not stand for our values and need to be exterminated like any vermin.

That is what you get when you have a “fictitious president”, waging wars on “fictitiuos inteligenge” to proft his friends and family. If I was a North American (It is absolutely wrong to think “Americans” means only North Americans!) I would place a paper bag over my head! What is happening to your country is so shamefull… Will these WAR CRIMINALS ever be held accountable?? They better be, if the US have any intention is regaining some (I stress here SOME) of its lost credibility.

  15. Loonie says:

Savage and Rush are phony human beings.

  16. Shayne says:

I say anybody who calls any soldier who has actually served a phony on the public airwaves should be tried for sedition which involves incitement of discontent. Certainly it must be bad for the morale of the troops to be treated this way when they return home from service and are called a phony if they don’t have just the “right” political opinion.

  17. GSD says:

Rightwingnuttia is reeling. Their dream of war with Iran is melting away. They are screaming louder and becoming ever more shrill by the minute.

  20. raynman says:

Doesn’t it strike anyone as slightly nauseating that someone who’s never worn the uniform has the audacity to call anyone who’s served ‘phony’, no matter what the reason behind it?

For a group that constantly proclaims how much they support the troops, they certainly do everything they can to drag them through the mud.

Michael “Savage” Weiner is a miserable human being. His hatred and contempt knows no bounds.

If he and other right wingers had to compete in a real, fair marketplace they’d never survive on air.

  24. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

“Savage” is a phony last name. And it fits his uncivilized, primitive thinking.

“Savage Southern Man” sounds like a good name for a song, doesn’t it?

  25. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

I agree totally. If I ever saw a closet case about to completely implode from his own self loathing, it’s Weiner.

No, he definitely has that right, and I hope he continues to exercise it. The more the right-wing attacks the troops, the easier the election will be.

Suuurrrreee Savage, just like a Stalinist show trial. There were people being locked up for life, tortured, and killed. The comparisons these wackos try to make is an insult to those that actually know what something like a Stalinist show trial was about.

What? You want them to risk lisping and maybe sounding **horrorsss** gay?

  33. RUCerious says:

With a name like Savage, Mikey better watch his ass. Somebody might be coveting it.

  34. LibertyLover says:

IMHO, Savage/Weiner and Rush are phony people.

  35. MapleStreet says:

So the military is so incompetent that it has consistently promoted a “phony soldier” up the ladder, rung by rung, all the way to General ?

  36. BrianFL says:

So a man who served his entire life in the military (Kerr), serving in the Special Forces, and rising all the way from Private to Brigadier General, is “phony” because he dared ask a question they didn’t like????

Thank God we have two chickenhawk COWARDS like Rush Limbaugh and Michael “Savage”, WHO NEVER BOTHERED TO SERVE THEIR COUNTRY DESPITE THEIR TOUGH TALK, telling us what it means to be a real patriot.

I guess real patriots hide behind their anal cysts like Limbaugh and let all the “phonies” fight their battles.

  37. missmolly says:

That Kerr is gay is old news. Kerr admits he’s gay. BFD.

But Savage has yet to explain what makes Kerr a “phony”. Is he claiming that Kerr never actually had a commission? That he didn’t serve? That he was really doing something else during those 43 years? What?

  38. Zimzone says:

what really pisses these clowns off is that Kerr got to ask a question.

While Trolls defend Weiner’s right to free speech, it doesn’t occur to the dumbshits Kerr has the same right.

TRoS asked you about your day on the other thread and he is pretending to be the big man on the job with his Vice Presidency (sure) working for his daddy. You owe him one, I wish I could stay and help.

A good start. Follow up with imprisonment and exile, then we’ll have something to talk about.

  42. deebaser says:

    He probably just wants attention.

The ‘phony’ thing worked for Limbaugh. He’s probably jealous that he’s just a tier 2 idiot.

  43. Jeremy Henderson says:

Michael “My Real Name is Weiner” Savage is a phony heterosexual.

  44. Eskwaya says:

the hypocracy is numbing when you consider that the right-wing fundamentalists sewed outrage across the entire U.S. media spectrum when MoveOn.org placed an ad in the New York Times asking ‘General Petraeus or General Betray Us?’.

General Petraeus was set to address the country on the state of the Iraq “war” and people with pre-knowledge of his assessment were reporting widely that Petraeus had caved to White House pressure and intended to paint a rosy picture. Could the painting of a rosy picture of the state of the Iraq war, an issue of grave import and consequence, be fairly equated with a betrayal of our trust? I’m inclined to say “yes”, although some could disagree. Nevertheless, the right-wing spin machine went into overdrive, even coaxing Democratic Senators to pass this piece of garbage:

SEC. 1070. SENSE OF SENATE ON GENERAL DAVID PETRAEUS.

    (a) Findings.–The Senate makes the following findings:

    * * *

    8) A recent attack through a full-page advertisement in the New York Times by the liberal activist group, Moveon.org, impugns the honor and integrity of General Petraeus and all the members of the United States Armed Forces.

    (b) Sense of Senate.–It is the sense of the Senate–

    (1) to reaffirm its support for all the men and women of the United States Armed Forces, including General David H. Petraeus, Commanding General, Multi-National Force-Iraq;

    (2) to strongly condemn any effort to attack the honor and integrity of General Petraeus and all the members of the United States Armed Forces; and

    (3) to specifically repudiate the unwarranted personal attack on General Petraeus by the liberal activist group Moveon.org.

(As printed in the Congressional Record for the Senate on Sep 19, 2007.)

    Source: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/amendment.xpd?session=110&amdt=s2934

22 gutless Democratic Senators voted for that Sense of the Senate resolution. So, I ask you, do you believe that calling Brig. Gen. Kerr “a phony General” over the national airwaives simply because he is gay and supports a democrat for President, is at least as a bad as insinuating in one local newspaper that General Petraeus could potentially betray the trust of the average citizen by painting a rosy picture? If you answered yes, as I did, then you might consider calling those 22 Democratic Senators that felt it necessary to vote for S2934 and ask for a Sense of the Senate Resolution to address this, because what’s good for the goose, is always good for the gander.
