If my contractors have killed civilians, I want to know. If $1 billion of arms are missing and unaccounted for, I want to know. Hell, I want to know if my supplier is accused of raping a local. I'm not just interested if the exchange rate is down a point, I want to know if the cost of concrete from China has skyrocketed. How many tractors are being shipped to Afghanistan may not catch my eye, but the fact that a bunch of Saudi's are taking lessons to fly planes, but not to take off or to land would . . . particularly in light of that other memo I meant to read regarding the likelihood that a bunch of Arabs want to fly planes into the World Trade Centers. As a CEO, my first thought, after hearing that that eventuality had become reality and finishing the story about a goat, would not be to schedule flight plans for the bin Lauden familly to flee the country during a flight blackout, but would probably be "How many of my employees were effected and how can I help them."
