They are in a foreign country. A country surrounded by others who have a distrust longheld and with some good reason of Western motives. Right or wrong whatever the reasons for going - they are a major part of the problem now. The community is divided on religious grounds and the troops being there will not change this. Some people seem to criticise the troops for talking with groups who have used violence . However history shows that in the end dialogue works better than the bullet. It happenned in Northern ireland. We didnt talk and the bombings and killings went on for years. When we did things began to improve. The people of Iraq have to decide on how they deal with some of the criminal gangs operating there under the guise of religion. In Basra that is happenning now in an effort to end the tortures and murders that have been taking place. I hope it continues. You don’t understand – we are only safer if the troops STAY over there – fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them here – the terrorists will follow the troops home.
