Shep Smith: ‘Fox is Bush’s network after all.’

Today on Fox News, host Shepard Smith and co-host Courtney Friel discussed the story of an Icelandic teen who discovered and dialed President Bush’s secret direct phone number. Friel joked, “We of course have President Bush’s number in our blackberries, right.” Smith sarcastically responded, “Yeah, we are his network after all. So we have to have his number.” Watch it:

The young boy who attempted to call Bush was interrogated by the Secret Service and reportedly warned that he would be put on the no-fly list. His mother notes that her son “has become a bit of a hero in Iceland.” “Bush is very unpopular here,” she said. (HT: Newshounds)

UPDATE: In today’s briefing, Dana Perino denied the boy dialed a secret Bush phone number. “My understanding is that he called the public line that anybody can call, the 1414 number,” she said.

oh no! not the no fly list into fascist america. what will the poor kid do?

  2. RUCerious Says:

Congrats Kid! The no fly list is like the Red, White and Blue Badge of Distinction!

  3. tombaker Says:

Anyone who so much as looks sideways at the Cheerleader Prince is subject to lawless punishment. His Holiness must remain unperturbed.

That's always been the American Way, hasn't it?

  4. tombaker Says:

#1 - exactly. though, if he were interested, I might be persuaded to swap citizenship with him.

  5. Veritas Says:

This is precisely why people have "FOX BLOCKERS" - They can't tolerate the lies from Bush and they certainly can't tolerate the pure fictional blather spewn by Faux News.

  6. tombaker Says:

Shep finally dishes out a little candor re: the nature of his employer.

  7. Dr. Matt Says:

Mark this date in history: Faux FINALLY tells truth on air!

  8. judyinnm Says:

A number "anyone can call" gets you on a "no-fly" list. Do you suppose the boy gives a flying flip? (Sorry)

  9. RUCerious Says:

Fox, the Catapult some more propagan...whoops, uh, BS, er, I mean news, uh, er, entertainment, uh, no, boring shit is not entertaining, uh,... drivel channel!

  10. RUCerious Says:

BTW, Shep, please pick up your final paycheck and pink slip at HR on your way out. Thanks..Remember, NOBODY tells it like it is at Faux Snooze!

  11. ralph the wonder llama Says:

I doubt if even Joke Line would characterize Shep's statement as "candor". Shepard Smith has shown some willingness to step a foot or two off the reservation at times, but it's clear that he's being sarcastic here.

  12. Menehune Says:

First they pull their 1 soldier out of Iraq. Now this. They should be careful since they are a country that starts with "I" and all. I'm sure Bush's finger was already reaching for the button to bomb Iran before it registered that it was Iceland that was dissing us.

  13. Nevar Says:

Two years from now Dubious will be sitting by the phone, watching the grass wither and die, wishing someone, anyone, would call...

  14. Buckie Boy Says:

her son “has become a bit of a hero in Iceland.” “Bush is very unpopular here,” she said.

A badge of honor kid, to bad you didn't think you do a phone joke also, like the Prince Albert in a can.

By the way Bush is VERY UNPOPULAR here too.

Gee...since I NEVER watch faux, I missed them telling the truth about being 'bushco' network.

  16. RUCerious Says:

Is that all it takes to get on the no-fly list..
Ok, everybody, on the count of three, dial the 1414 number.

    One, two, three....

Prank phone calls are right up Bush's alley, along with:

    Killing Iraqi kids

  19. Nevar Says:

He found the number scrawled on the wall at the hot springs, and mistook the J for a G......

  20. tarazan Says:

And Bush can call it Fox friend -Shep.

  21. Badmoodman Says:

"In today’s briefing, Dana Perino denied...."

    - - Ahh, and did Ms. Perino address how she had NO idea what The Cuban Missile Crisis was and even laughed about that fact? I guess she IS the perfect spokesperson for this president after all.

    Good grief.

  22. Gregor Samsa Says:

"The police chief said they were under orders from U.S. officials to "find the leak" -- that I had to tell them where I had found the number," he said. "Otherwise, I would be banned from ever entering the United States."

Since when do the Icelandic police take orders from the White House?

And I don't think barring him for life from entering the US is such a big deal for an Icelandic 16yo.

I know it's a bit hard to believe to the Bushbots, but a lot of people in Europe have no interest whatsoever in ever visiting the US. The Bush administration hasn't exactly changed minds in that respect.

  23. Dagoril Says:

So prank phone calls to a publically available phone number get you on the no-fly list now?

Don't those chuckleheads at the Secret Service have anything better to do?

  24. Guido OBGYN Lover Says:

    FOX is State Sponsored TV.

  25. JPisHere Says:

Hilarious! Fox News has the best ratings in cable news for a reason. More Americans relate to Foxnews than the other networks. Check out the ratings before making such false statements about Foxnews going down the tubes and losing support!

  26. tombaker Says:

26 - some say that's why the dollar is in a tailspin - congratulations.

  27. pete Says:

Meanwhile: Bush and Cheney are thinking; "We sure could refine oil cheaper, and sell gas longer, with all that cheap, Icelandic Geo-Thermal".

Can they live with the reality of a free geo-thermal nation?
    /sarc off; well, I hope it's sarc.

  28. Krazny Says:

How does calling a publicly available number get a person on the no-fly list? Something is rotten in Washington on this one.

Actually, Chucknuts, Fox's cable ratings are dwarfed by the regular network ratings.

Thanks Republic of Stupidity, it is amazing that the FREE regular network are doing better with ratings. By the way, you may want to see where their ratings have gone in the last 10 years. My comparison was in regards to the other cable network news organizations. Foxnews blows them all out of the water. No comparison.

Just because all of you lemmings watch the same thing doesn't mean more Americans relate to anything watch or think. You are a small fraction of the population.

  35. tombaker Says:

34 -Then we can safely conclude that the perceived "decline" of American politics and economics is the direct result of the ascendence of Fox News. Great news, or something, I guess. Or whatever.

No one should be SO proud of being SO misinformed.

    Look you tool.

    All you sheeple watch Fox.

    Nobody watches the other networks.

Of course the ratings are higher. The ratings for shows watched by morons.

Fox is Bush's network, until he leaves office. If this country is backwater insane enough to elect Huckabee, it'll become his network as well.

I'm so sick at the American MSM. Lately I've been getting my news from the BBC!

I agree. Fox is State Sponsored TV. And the Walmart masses listen and nod to everything Fox says. It scary, it's sick, it's downright ignorant!

  40. ForTruth Says:

Fox News has good ratings because of all the sex they peddle. It's why I visit their website.

  41. tombaker Says:

41 - LOL - PBS would be top-rated too, if they'd just put more bikini-clad coeds on their pledge drives.

  42. pbg Says:

Fox News' primacy in cable news shows that they beat the pants off of...

    ...channels that slavishly imitate them.

In case you haven't noticed, there isn't a Minas Tirith sitting opposite Fox's Minas Morgul. Only Orthanc.

The people who are sick of Fox have nowhere to go in the broadcast universe. To the channel of Chris Matthews? of Tucker Carlson? of Glenn Beck?

There's very little to crow about beating those folks out.

Last time I checked, I still had the ability to reason. Personally, I watch multiple news sources, including the BBC. Make sense??

Fox is "State Sponsored TV"??? Do you even know what State Sponsored TV is? It is obvious that those watching Fox aren't the ignorant ones.

  44. tombaker Says:

    Two things come to mind:

    1 - Bush's approval rating was at 90% after 911

2 - People watch News for parody and to see what the Enemy is up to

  47. MapleStreet Says:

“My understanding is that he called the public line that anybody can call, the 1414 number,”

So, in other words, we have become such a fascist country that a teenager calling the public phone number for the Whitehouse will be permanently blacklisted.

    "Glory, Glory, Hallelujah......Glory, Glory, Hallelujah....."

  48. RickS Says:

Didn't the US government put Cat Stevens on the no fly list?

Are you sure Fox News isn't state-run television?:

the secret service interrogated him???? - WTF???? - as far as i can recall, the biggest threat that iceland ever posed or inflicted upon the rest of the world was bjork!!!

  50. jb Says:

Haul the punk off to GITMO and waterboard the "truth" out of him. Treat Iceland to a bit of "Shock & Awe" and steal their geothermal energy.

  51. lespool Says:

"Dana Perino denied the boy dialed a secret Bush phone number. “My understanding is that he called the public line that anybody can call, the 1414 number,” she said."

So does that mean that "anybody" who calls the WH's public line will now be interrogated by the Secret Service and put on a "no-fly list?" What the hell...

  52. VerbalKint Says:

“My understanding is that he called the public line that anybody can call, the 1414 number,”

Uh huh. So that's why the Secret Service was dispatched to Iceland to interview a 16 year old boy. Everyone who believes that raise your right hand.

  53. Mugsy Says:

What a coincidence, Shep! Fox "has Bush's number" and now we've got yours! :)

As for Perino, we're expected to believe the Secret Service flew to Iceland to question a 15 year old boy that simply called the public switchboard???

Gawd, these people can't even LIE intelligently!

  54. thecowboydictator Says:

to J pishere I, like other normal people watch Faux news for entertainment purposes. It is so absurd that it is my biggest laugh of the day..(sadly, I have to laugh about something with the state of the country and our retarded president) .. It does have a nice audience of brainwashed people who can't think for themselves as well. Just your idiotic comment about how high Faux news ratings are shows you are not dealing with reality...brainwashed and cannot think for yourself without a dose of Faux. They need to tell you what to say, what to think, how to feel...sad.

your typical american cable network news viewer is a misinformed simpleton.

  56. nikolai Says:

    Two things;

I LOVE the comment from the mother of the Icelandic boy... Priceless!

It's really too bad Faux is such a propaganda machine, they really do have good coverage, graphics, photography, cute anchorettes, etc. I hate to admit it but they do a pretty damn good job overall EXCEPT for the propaganda, and for this reason I do not watch them, nor do I believe anything they may have to say, as they are not trustworthy for the most important news, so how can I trust them with ANY news? My wife watches Faux occasionally but only for the human interest and feel good stuff, as she doesn't believe any of their "news" either... Also, both of us go out of our way to avoid any advertized products or services offered on the Faux channel. Sorry Faux, you lose!

  57. ctalk Says:

Faux is responsible for hyping up the illegal and immoral "regime change" in Iraq, an unforgivable crime. This is definite proof that they are Bush's network of yellow journalism. In a truly just world they would have had their license yanked years ago.
