White House’s manipulation of climate science.
A new report by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee concludes that the Bush administration has “engaged in a systematic effort to manipulate climate change science and mislead policymakers and the public about the dangers of global warming.” Highlights from the report:
– The White House censored climate change scientists. When Dr. Thomas Karl, Director of National Climatic Data Center, appeared before the House Oversight Committee in 2006, he was barred from saying in his written testimony that “modern climate change is dominated by human influences.” His “assertion that global warming ‘is playing’ a role in increased hurricane intensity became ‘may play.’”
– The White House extensively edited climate change reports. At one point, the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) “made at least 294 edits to the Administration’s Strategic Plan of the Climate Change Science Program to exaggerate or emphasize scientific uncertainties or to deemphasize or diminish the importance of the human role in global warming.”
– The White House muzzled environmental administration staffers. “The White House also edited a 2002 op-ed by EPA Administrator Christine Todd Whitman to ensure that it followed the White House line on climate change. Despite objections from EPA, CEQ insisted on repeating an unsupported assertion that millions of American jobs would be lost if the Kyoto Protocol were ratified.”
UPDATE: During today’s press briefing, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino rejected the report as “being untrue.”

Instead of trying to pin the “global warming” on human actions, we should spin this to the wing-nut base and explain how God did it. Humans are obviously the creation of a higher intelligent being (or some sort of spaghetti laden monster), so why can’t the trouble with the environment also be because God made it so? It pins the blame on someone else, allowing us to continue using oil like it’s going out of style and touches on the religiosityous people who could almost believe this.

December 10th, 2007 at 3:58 pmWhen a liar says that something is untrue, that must make it true then (yes in most cases this syllogism is valid, special circumstances notwithstanding and none of those can ever be applied to this administration). Thus a report she hasn’t read is untrue because she believes in all of the lies she must keep telling us. Not unlike her comment on NPR radio Saturday about not having a clue at all about the Cuban Missile crisis. When she doesn’t know something she makes it up, and when she knows something she lies about it. A perfect Bushco White House spokesperson.

Forgive them (the born again christians or islamists or whatever brand of authoritarian non thinking cult they follow) they know not what they do….literally… most are quite uneducated or have flawed logic circuits.
They are highly susceptible to the propaganda and emotional bullshit that is fed to them by Faux news & likes of Limbaugh…spokes media/persons bought & paid for by the corporate governancy brigade. The flocks are the easiest to manipulate and use for votes …just wave a red flag of righteousness and lead them down the chute.
