‘Don’t Mormons believe Jesus and the devil are brothers?’

asked Mike Huckabee, “who describes himself as the only Republican candidate with a degree in theology.” On MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Mitt Romney responded this way: “That’s been an old attack that’s been leveled years ago. And, you know, I was sad to see it come out again, but I’m glad the church clarified that one more time. … Attacking someone’s faith, that’s simply un-American.” Because Romney would never act in such a manner.

I'm so very sick of these religious fanatics forcing their stupid god down my throat!!!

Geroge W. Bush and every single one of the Repukeian candidates are Satan's brothers. Exorcise them all.

wow -- Jesus, the ACLU, and Dubbie's-a-big-fat-liar...

now all we need is another Gore thread, and we'd have a troll-fecta of topics for the day.

  6. Mugsy Says:

I confess a limited knowledge of such matters, but from what I recall, Satan was "a fallen Angel" and not a "son of God" as Jesus is said to be, so not, Jesus and The Devil are not "brothers", and "theologian" Mike may need to go back to school.

Very reminiscent of Christians that blame "the Jews" for "killing Jesus" (it was the Romans).

Huckabee, Romney, Guliani - the're all various shades of the same neo-con cyborg. This ridiculous nonsense about who's more holier than the other. They're all hypocrites. Huckabee acts as though he's more righteous than the other candidates. It's just another religious scam he learned from Bush. The moral majority or evangelical base has been fractured so now it's the flavor the month in the republican camp. Three Newsweek covers in a row - Guliani, Romney, Huckabee. Who's next?

Speaking of Romney, I know he fired the landscapers who hired illegals.
But do we know if he reported them to INS? To DHS? Anyone? I mean, if illegals are so bad, he certainly should, right? Or is it ok for other people to have illegal aliens mowing their lawns, just not for him?

You're absolutely right. Christianity itself can be great. But too often people manipulate it and corrupt it.

Good point, Wilco. What's weird is that, when it comes to the Bible, the roles are somewhat reversed. Catholics see it as the allegorical word of God, by turns symbolic, literal and prophetic, while most other Christians see it as the literal Word of God.

  33. nanlichi Says:

I disagree with the posters who claim that religion should not be part of politics, I think it is an important test of the way a person views the world. Are they rational and have a reality based view, or do they claim that some mythical entity talks to them and tells them what to do? Is the earth 6,000 years old or 4.5 billion? There is a difference you know.

The simpleton pResident we are stuck with for another year should be a warning of the dangers of letting superstitious cave dwellers run the country.

  35. citizen_pain Says:

I read the reply by someone from the LDS about the Jesus and Stan being brothers remark. Her answer was that Satan is the opposite of everything Jesus stands for.

    Having said that:

Satan would torture, Jesus wouldn't. Romney endorses torture.

Satan would partake in and profit from war, Jesus wouldn't. Romney's campaign is being advised by a Blackwater executive, founder even, and we all know Blackwater is a private, for profit mercenary army.

Those are but a few glaring examples of how Romney. and most other professed "Christians", in fact act; the exact opposite manner in which Jesus lived and wants us as humans to live.

There is no explanation (following the LDS' and most evangelical Christians' logic) for this behavior other than to say that Romney and the like are agents of Satan.

  50. Xisithrus Says:

Doesn't the talmud say about the same thing?

According to the Talmud, Yeshu was the son of a Jewish woman named Miriam who was betrothed to a carpenter. "Betrothed" means she was legally married to him, but she was not yet living with him or having sexual relations with him. The story says that Miriam was either raped by or voluntarily slept with Pandeira, a Greek or Roman soldier. Miriam than gave birth to Yeshu, who was considered a "mamzer" (bastard), a product of an adulterous relationship. The Talmud describes Yeshu as a heretic who dabbled in sorcery and lead the people astray. Later, the Sanhedrin (the Jewish "Supreme Court") ordered Yeshu stoned to death and his dead body was hung from a tree until nightfall after his death, in accordance with the ancient Jewish punishment for heretics.

Huckabee says its wrong for people to attack others for their religious beliefs, yet many see the war in Iraq as a war against the Islamic religion. All of this religious racism, Talmudic, Christian, Muslim, Mormon, Catholic MUST stop.

Daryll, it is not right for you to attack people that are not religious and claim they are going to hell. YOU are not their judge.

As for Huckabees statement I think its the Adam whose brother is supposed to be Satan in the Mormon religion.

I am not sure God will be happy with that.

  54. Lefty Patriot Says:

President bush does what he pleases becasue he is the brother of Satan, spawn of the devil. Otherwise, he'd do his job, not what he pleases. Thanks, Daryll, you've proven that Bush is the devil. not that we needed any proof; his mass-murdering ways are pretty clear to the civilized people of the world (leaving out rightwing nutcases, of course).

  55. Spudge Boy Says:

    Let's examine President Bush
    love: questionable
    joy: doubtful
    peace: absolutely not
longsuffering: giving it, yes; meaning patient, hardly
    gentleness: no way
faith: I'm not the judge of this
meekness: "I'm the Decider" says absolutely not
temperance: with substances, doubtful; as in measured "I don't do nuance" indicates not at all

Herr dubyah hasn't done anything to protect America. Iraq didn't attack our country, didn't want to attack our country, and couldn't attack our country. Herr dubyah hasn't caught the person responsible for 9/11. Herr dubyah hasn't done anything to protect America.

  62. hellinabucket Says:

Daryll, you didn't answer my question if god condones waterboarding. You inserted your opinion (how telling) instead of what is god's word.

And you bile about the POTUS is sad on so many levels. You want to remain subserviant I'm not going to stop you. I won't be silent when the likes of you spout that our freedoms can be taken away for security. Our Nation is much stronger than that. You profess the same destructive methods as the Nazis in the 30's.

So, once again I'll ask. Does God condone waterboarding?

  63. Keith Says:

The increase in violent civilian Iraqi deaths since our invasion is about 1,200,000. This does NOT include those who have died in other ways due to our invasion , such as destruction of clean water and their healthcare. For instance, one in eight Iraqi children now die before the age of five! One in four in Afghanistan. Is that would Jesus would do? No, Jesus would act more like Dennis Kucinich.

Too bad you have to wake up every day to the fact that your president failed the nation and the world on 9/11. why the hell are we even listening to these morons??

The republicans conned the deeply religious and the religious wannabes into voting against their own interests, and then they proved just how dishonest they are to those people.

Now we have another guy who helped a rapist go free trying to act holier than thou. Are we going to have another episode of fake-ass religious people falling all over themselves to try and appear like they have "values."

Once again the talking points of the candidates are moving into the realm of topics that (if God forbid they are elected) they cannot do shiznit about. Can they enact a "Jesus, morality, fake Christian promoting" constitutional amendment?

Enough! How about some real issues like the moronic crusade to Iraq or the fact that Republican officials drank the kool-aid years ago and became the most corrupt group of politicians EVER!

However, with the political power in the hands of the American Christian Pharisees who share Daryll's beliefs, there is a threat to my political and religious freedom. I will defend that freedom.

    Please excuse Daryll’s absence.

He just ran out to burn a few crosses in his neighbor’s yards.

We are supposed to emulate Christ in every aspect of our lives.

    that daryll!

  96. Neeko Says:

If it wasn’t for this war, you or your love ones may have been considered deceased because of an attack on our soil. Seriously, thank our President.

    Comment by Daryll — December 12, 2007 @ 12:48 pm

President Gore would have paid attention to all the warnings and prevented the ATTACK ON OUR SOIL.

You are a joke. I impressed at how you can justify the killing of .5 to 1 million people in a country that did not have either WMDs or Al Queda.

    Hitler would have liked you.

    Comment by Daryll — December 12, 2007 @ 12:48 pm

Because of THIS president's lackadaisacal atitude towards a clear and present danger ("Bin Laden determined to attack inside the US", isn't that what the daily briefing said a month before 9/11?), 3000 loved ones ARE deceased because of an attack on American soil. Seriously, THANK OUR PRESIDENT?? Give your head a shake, fool. Seriously, no one appreciates you pissing on the graves of the dead.

    Furthermore,

Jesus works through President Bush, so yes, in a way, Jesus is ruling our nation.

    Comment by Daryll — December 12, 2007 @ 12:36 pm

If Jesus is working through Bush, does that mean Jesus WANTED Bush to ignore the warnings and WANTED to allow the 9/11 attack for his own purposes? Is that what you're saying? Or is it that Jesus was asleep at the switch that day? Or is it that Allah was stronger that day?

If Jesus is working through Bush, I think he chose a seriously defective tool--emphasis on TOOL.

    hellinabucket,

I enjoy poking fun at the good Bro on occasion. My understanding is that he is a real person and is really as primitive as he appears, so I feel bad about making fun of the severely handicapped. God will forgive me, I hope.

    PLC,

I agree that the fundamentalists are a threat. They don't seem to see themselves as two sides of the same coin as the jihadists they rail against, and it could be argued that they are a more serious threat than the minority of fundamental Muslims. I know one self professed Christian that has done more harm to my country than Osama could ever hope to, and want to make sure the next pResident doesn't share the same fundamentalist flaw.

I don't mean any harm to the vast majority of Christians when I poke fun at Daryll, I do mean harm to the fundamentalists who jam their religion in my life.

This is Huck's first gaff, and it may be all that is needed to bring his numbers back down to Earth. I had really hoped that he was a bigger man than to poke fun at Mitt's religion.

  101. tombaker Says:

J - if we turn the elections into a referendum on religion, this is all you will get - one denomination attacking the other, and the whole thing will amount to 2 giant steps backward for the ol' USA.

Read that Kennedy speech - best job anyone's done of asserting their faith and staying true to the Constitution.

Those Founding Fathers were religious, but they were also very smart. Too smart to let infighting amongst religious factions derail the "great experiment" of Democracy.

  102. Menehune Says:

Jesus and the Devil are brothers? Hey, c'mon. You here every so often that Jesus was a brother, but I always thought the devil was white.

LOL HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA Good one Jason. Very funny.

This NIE is politically driven attack on the administration by certain elements in the intelligence community who are unhappy about the war in Iraq.

    Comment by Frank M — December 12, 2007 @ 1:36 pm

Terrorists are not going to attack your doublewide, you can get out from under your bed. I live in New York City, this president's policies make it more likely I wil die by a terrorist attack (2,800 of my neighbors already did). It's that simple, you support terrorists. You are a terrorist supporter

I actually meant to cut and paste Darryl's comments, oh well.

  106. DRxJ Says:

Well kids, what have we learned from this post today?
That religion should always be separate from politics. But noooooo, the right can't seem to follow that. They're even attacking their own (although fun to watch, it proves meaningless when it comes to political positions)
We also learned the Daryll of Parodyll is going to Rio for some man on man "restroom love"! And although I have no problem with that, I'm not sure his new bride would be as accepting.
Finally, we observe JMH is still a misogynist 40 year virgin (or is he 41 now?), whose "Ivy league" education still has him posting from his mother's basement, presumably due to Florida's "Island Heat Effect"

    Weeeee, what fun!

I read the reply by someone from the LDS about the Jesus and Stan being brothers remark. Her answer was that Satan is the opposite of everything Jesus stands for.

    Comment by citizen_pain — December 12, 2007 @ 12:39 pm

I realize its probably a typo, but I love the concept of Jesus' brother Stan. Then, of course, there's the Santa/Satan thing. . .war on Christmas indeed.

    Comment by BARTLEBEE — December 12, 2007 @ 3:02 pm

There is evidence to support that. But I tend to believe it's partially a kneejerk reaction to the person rather the religion. It's also fairly obvious that those who espouse one religion or another aren't actually following their paths, but inciting.

There are others here who use restraint when discussing the foundations of someone elses religion.

I had asked Daryll if God condones waterboarding. He sidestepped the question and stated he himself didn't see anything wrong with it but couldn't state that god did. My guess is that he couldn't bring himself to lie, knowing full well the bible does not support torture.

  111. DRxJ Says:

BARTLEBEE, not all regulars here are religious intolerant. PLC for one (and I for another). It's the perversion in the name of Christianity, or other spiritual beliefs, that gets to many here (i.e. Daryll of Parodyll).
I prefer not to engage in theological debates here because it usually boils down to proof of existence vs. proof on non-existence, which to me is counter productive (I love the one poster who wanted to start an organization called atheists for Christ).
My opinion is, to be a true progressive, one must be tolerant of all religion/beliefs. Once we start favoring one over the other, or denouncing a certain denomination, then we as a nation, have failed.

  112. tombaker Says:

Progressives have been friends of the Faithful ever since the Underground Railroad was operational.

  113. tombaker Says:

And Bart, if you want to fly off the handle and beat me up for that, I'm just going to turn the other cheek.

  114. hellinabucket Says:

    Merry Christmas to all.

    DRxJ, well said.

  115. hellinabucket Says:

Far too many times this site becomes a microcomsim of the public at large. The extremists are the loudest on both the right and the left.

  116. tombaker Says:

O Bart, you angry, angry man....you know I was teasing by telling that truth. I agree with you down the line. It's about getting the church-folk to understand that by inviting gov't and religion to mix, they're only going to bring trouble on themselves, which is why the Founders knew the best route to religious freedom was to keep government away from it, and vice versa.

harriet tubman - that was good, and i'm still gettin a chuckle out of it.

  117. nanlichi Says:

Damn Bart. First you ask for tolerance then you go off on tombaker like some kind of fanatic. Like the fanatics, you lose the argument before you start.

  118. Sabyen91 Says:

Bartlebee has never been consistent, nanlichi. I am thinking he must be a Congressional Republican.
