‘Senior’ Bushie: ‘They should have burned the NIE.’

In the e-mail version of the Politico Playbook this morning, Mike Allen quotes “a senior administration official” lamenting that “they should have burned the NIE and kept the tapes.” The official was referring to the administration’s debacles with the intelligence community since the new NIE on Iran was released and the CIA revealed that it had destroyed videotaped interrogations.

Or maybe burned themselves, kept the tapes, and made paper airplanes with the NIE..

  3. Jason M. Hendler says:

As Thomas Friedman wrote, a drug producer that stops extracting opium, but continues to grow poppies, is still a drug producer. This NIE lets the drug producer off the hook on a technicality.

Poppies do have legitimate uses too.

  6. ralph the wonder llama says:

Yeah, that’s the way to support your point, Jason manHandler. Quote Thomas Friedman to add some intellectual heft. That oughta do it. We’ll completely overlook the fact that your point makes no sense, because you backed it up with some wisdom from the inventor of the Friedman Unit.

  7. Bruce Gorton says:

Papaver somniferum, the opium poppy, is also grown for its seeds, which are used in baking.

  8. Jane E. Schneider says:

Well, JMH, Friedman has said stupid things before, and will again. And nothing in the NIE that I’ve heard has said in effect “go ahead and ignore Iran, nothing to see here” as you’re implying. What the 16 intelligence agencies are agreeing on is that there is no need for an immediate call to bomb Iran, as so many conservatives and some foolish Democratics are having wet dreams about.

So, according to Friedman and JMH, if you enjoy a nice poppy-seed roll every morning, you must be a drug abuser?

Well said, Jane. Both 8 and 9. With umber 8 you addressed Jason with the seriousness the topic deserves, and in 9 you addressed him with the seriousness that Jason deserves.

Damn, I like poppy-seed rolls. (sigh) I guess there’ll be plenty of bakeries under surveillance soon!

‘Morning, Arn–I’m an agnostic, but if I’m wrong and there is a Judgement Day, then I agree with you completely on this one.

    Uhhhh.. Jason M.
“a drug producer that stops extracting opium, but continues to grow poppies, is still a drug producer.”

Like most things Friedman says, that doesn’t make much sense.

  23. Chris L says:

Nice. If the NIE says what we want it to, parade it around and make sure everyone sees it. Also, if it says what we want, there is no doubt about its veracity. But if it doesn’t say what we want – if it weighs the same as a duck, and is made of wood – BURN IT!!!

Why single out this particular anonymous senior administration official, when so much “news” for the last several years has come from so many anonymous senior administration officials? I agree that we shouldn’t have to constantly rely on anonymous reports for “facts”, but let’s not cherry-pick which anonymous sources to believe. And we wouldn’t have to put up with so much anonymity if this administration would actually tell the truth to the American people once in a while.

  25. Bobwurst says:

Thomas Fried man also said that it didn’t matter whether we found WMD or not i Iraq, what was important was to show the “Arab Street” that we were willing to shed American blood. He lost any credibility he had with that statment.

  26. Bush is a four letter word says:

#3 ~ The Oklahoma City bombing was caused by a truck full of fertilizer. By your logic our nation’s farmers are supporting terror by continuing to pursue agriculture.

  27. hellinabucket says:

don’t forget the producers of box cutters. damn terrorist box cutter makers.

  28. hellinabucket says:

Has there been one iota of factual evidence to contradict the latest NIE?

  29. Uncle Ho says:

    Bobwurst; Thomas Friedman had credibility?

  30. Jane E. Schneider says:

Arn, you’re right, not very “christian”. As I’ve said before, I was raised Roman Catholic, but got turned off organized religion due to the hypocrisy I witnessed by so many pious church-goers. I truly feel that my morals/ethics are more like what one should expect from true christians than what one sees from so many political and television religious leaders shouting their piety into a microphone.

BTW, what IS it with all of the Jehovah’s Witnesses in my neck of the woods–there’s at least 5 or 6 enclaves of them within about 5 square miles!

Is that what Thomas Friedman predicts? Because JMH thinks that’s a source that we should take seriously.

  36. ralph the wonder llama says:

A “senior administration official” has revealed that troll cold_hard_left makes a lot of sense.

Troll cold_hard_left immediately denounced the source as untrustworthy.

Most TPers recognized the source as drunk and insane.

  37. Jason M. Hendler says:

    Jane,

Someone with poppy seeds on their muffin isn’t a drug user, because that is not the “effective” part of the plant. The drug producer is stock piling the “effective” part of the plant for nefarious purposes in the future.

  38. Jeremy in Denver says:

All I have to say is I’m looking forward to 2008. If things happen as I think they will, then Jason Hendler will be even further in the margin. And if the Democrats get the spine that control of all three branches of government should give them, a whole lotta chickens are going to come back to roost for the Republicans in 2009….and some crows too. I hope Jason likes crow, because if there is an iota of justice in this world, then for four years starting in 2009, that’s going to be what’s for dinner…

    Comment by Jason M. Hendler — December 13, 2007 @ 1:44 pm

Uh, Jason, Opium (and other drugs) are made out of the poppy plant seeds, making these the effective part of the plant when it comes to drug making.

Not to mention Jane’s facetiousness should have been obvious…

Hey, JMH, I only took yours and Friedman’s “logic” a step further down the ridiculous path you started. And, unless you’re a mind-reader, how would you know why anyone anywhere grows poppies? My neighbor has some, who knows why she’s growing them, should I report her?

  41. Jane E. Schneider says:

Not to mention Jane’s facetiousness should have been obvious…

    Comment by Gregor Samsa — December 13, 2007 @ 2:37 pm

Thanks, Gregor, I thought I was making it obvious, too. Should I have added a smily face to my last comment to indicate to the humorless that it’s not completely serious?

Not when Bush adds signing statements to laws, protecting the violators rather than the whistle-blowers.
