Congress sends war funding bill to Bush.

Congress passed the defense authorization bill Friday, “sending President Bush a defense bill requiring no change in strategy” in Iraq and “another $189.4 billion for the Iraq and Afghan wars.” The legislation also authorizes “more help to troops returning from combat and set conditions on contractors and pricey weapons programs” as well as a 3.5 percent pay raise for service members. Bush is expected to sign the legislation into law.

The Repturds lie, cheat and steal and the Spineless Dems just roll over and play dead. That’s about the size of it. It’s time for the people to take control back of our government and country. We surely can’t count on any dems to do it for us.

In fact, if Hillary, Barak, and Edwards don’t get back to filibuster the intel immunity, then they will be penalized by the voters in 08.

I can see it clearly now: The Repturds are criminals and the Dems are complicit. Who’s the ONLY man who has the ability to clean up this disaster within? Al Gore!

Hi RU! I’ve been gone and these past few threads are quite depressing for those of us who had a shred of hope that the Dems would work for the people finally. I think I’m going to throw in the towel on even trying to work for change. This country has sold itself down the river and I have absolutely no faith in either party at this point. Why should we bother when they don’t give a crap about the people for whom they work – us?
I think it’s time to take a very long break from it all since nothing we think, say, or do matters one iota to those in power. They’ve totally forgotten that they are our “public servants”. If Hillary, Barak and Edwards don’t take a stand on any of this nonsense, then they don’t deserve to be voted into office.

If they don’t have the guts to stand up for the people, then what the hell are they doing wasting their time and ours in this ridiculous campaign bull$hit? Can you tell that I’m totally disgusted? I’m outraged.

If Chris Dodd is the ONLY democrat with a spine who is willing to filibuster and stop this nonsense, then he will get the independent votes which will take away from the democrat candidate and I’d have to admit that they will deserve it.

  22. Sabyen91 says:

Yes…it is a depressing thought. But somehow, my bet is on the US over China. This decade is a major replay of the 20’s in many respects from an economic standpoint. There is pain coming our way, no doubt, but not more, I think, than we can take.

I doubt Pat Buchannen has many fans here, but he was vehemently against NAFTA and the Iraq invasion…for all that he wrote Nixon’s speeches there are times I think he is the only real conservative left.

Anyhow, when pressed in an interview about America’s imminent demise, he conceded that America has always posessed amazing recuperative powers. I think he is right. I hope he is right.

I’ve been there and done that. And don’t bother sending Nancy Pelosi an e-mail from either her Contact page on her Speaker site or from her Congressperson page, because she isn’t taking any e-mails. The Speaker contact page bounces your e-mail and her California Congressperson page sends you a canned reply telling you that if you are not a “registered” California constituent, she isn’t interested in what you have to say.

God I wish there was some way that “we the people” could kick both Pelosi and Reid to the curb.

Because if enough Democrats quit the party and become Independents it will send a strong message to the Democratic party that the DLC is killing the party and putting the Democrats in extreme jeopardy. The Democrats are going to need us “grass roots” kind of people to get out there and work hard to defeat the Republiscum congressmen and Senators. But the way they are going, no one is going to heed their call and we will end up with either another Republican President or a Congress that is not very different from what it is now, with a Democratic President. That will still end in gridlock because the Republiscums will continue their obstruction and nothing will get done and nothing will change.

  55. Sabyen91 says:

Yeah, well, he really hates the Prog agenda, whereas I just find it distasteful.

You would all be fools to abandon the Dems absent an amazingly charismatic leader who actually Could form a Progressive Party.

Believe it or not, I think Obama could be that man. He exudes charisma. He talks a good vision. He would be VERY hard for the largely white christian male Repubs to block. And secretly, I think he is more radical than anyone suspects.

You could elect a Democrat and get a Progressive. The same is likely true of Edwards but he is the only one of the Big 3 Dem nominees who has no chance of winning.

It is just a hunch. Were he to gain power, he could BE as radical as he wanted.

Look, the Race Card is a monster in American politics. When you look at Jackson, Sharpton et al….I would say an apparent moderate like O could do incredible things once he had the big chair.

He is the product of a bi-racial marriage between a Muslim and a Christian who spent some of his upbringing outside the US. He has been candid about using drugs.

Those three things alone would make him the most radical President we have had since FDR.

    Huh???

I consider myself a progressive and I couldn’t care less about Dems. To me, political groups will always watch their backs against the common people, which is the whole deal of a plutocracy.

I think this is far worst for Bush and for the national extremists behind his actions. People is getting tired of the whole scam of free market crap and how the market is gonna solve everything, meanwhile the world’s most powerful middle class (US) is being depleted by neoliberal economic structures.

And funny enough, as the worldwide breach between poor and rich people is getting bigger and bigger, Marx is spot on 150 years later.

Hill-a-Copter is the definition of status quo. She is the only Dem in the race that would be indistinguisable from a Repub.

Did you notice how right after Bush was elected he refused to go after the Clintons in any way shape or form? A vote for Hillary is a vote for more of the same.

Unless the Rs nominate McCain, which it looks like they won’t, they are toast in the 08. So whoever wins the Dem nomination will be Prez.

Now,you may be right, O may be DLC, but you KNOW Hill is – all she wants is the spot, just the same way W wanted it to match up to Bush 41.

I think Bart has an issue about having the last word, about humiliating the rival, about being attacked. It is sad, cause he is SO funny and spot on sometimes.

  108. tombaker says:

    just –

I get pissed at the D’s too, though I’m usually more quiet about it here, where any little item like that will be transformed by trolls into monkeypoop, to be flung around incoherently.

it would be good to have more discussion like that, but it just wouldn’t be possible here. the folks at kos manage to keep things on-track a litte better, but at the cost of being so big and busy as to be impersonal.

it’s a matter of – we either transform the D’s, or use them as a springboard to a 3rd party. from my pov, transforming is a shorter, straighter line, therefore preferable. heck, look what wackos have managed to do with the gop. i don’t think we should take exactly the same tack (lol), but i think you see my point re: the malleability of a party.

let sayben vent re: the D’s. it’s not like he’s going to find a Nader to vote for next fall. i don’t think anyone’s going to take any chances.

Your the one acting like a f_cking concern troll. STFU, idiot.

  110. Sabyen91 says:

tombaker, I wouldn’t vote for Nader anyway :). He was such a hypocrite…railing against big business while owning stock in Occidental Oil. You are right. I would like to do it internally but my district includes Madison, WI. We already have great liberal reps. Voting Green would be stupid.

  111. tombaker says:

i didn’t mean Bart does that – he does what he does, but he doesn’t do the righty thing.

it’s the biggies, et al, who tilt at us with unicorns of rhetoric, that stifle discussion with incoherence.

    (viva che!)

just – “concern trolls”, like capt mantastic, annoy me more than i care to tell – i’m feelin’ you all the way on that. there are ways to deal with them, too. sayben ain’t one of’em, far as i can tell.

  112. Sabyen91 says:

No, justasking, what you are not understanding is that the financing for the f^cking Iraq war is considered emergency while the funds for the veterans are considered budgetary and apparantly paygo (if you need a definition, just google it). Stop being such a moron.

  113. tombaker says:

i was kidding sayben – just trying to come up with a useful example.

  114. Sabyen91 says:

Captain Mantastic is no concern troll. He is a true righty, dyed in the wool troll. Concern trolls are those that say when we are attacking Israeli policy that “Come on guys, we don’t want to sound anti-semetic or anything. Come on!!!!)

  130. Sabyen91 says:

My point of view is Congress JUST gave Bush $189.4 BILLION. Yours is that it was already Bush’s to do with as he will.

  131. curmudgeon says:

This is far less complicated than most people seem to realize.

With rare exception, elected officials in Washington, D.C. place top priority on representing the interests of their most generous campaign contributors, regardless of its impact on their constituents. If and when this occurs, large infusions of corporate cash just prior to the election can fund the necessary advertising blitzkrieg to sway enough voters to keep their sock puppet in office.
And if all else fails, that former congressperson can anticipate a much more lucrative career as a corporate board member or lobbyist. For a politician willing to “play ball” this is a can’t lose proposition, at least for them personally.

For the first time in many years, the Democrats have the wind at their backs with regard to corporate financial support, now receiving more than half of the campaign contributions from almost every corporate category. Their giddy euphoria upon again receiving such generous infusions of campaign money parallels that of a drug addict having suffered withdrawal symptoms for a long time, finally receiving another injection of their preferred drug. The drug pusher/junkie metaphor seems fitting. For information regarding the extent of this transformation, please see http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1007/6359.html

Similarly, defense contractors have purchased the loyalties of the Democratic party, and for the first time since 1994, are giving more than half of their campaign monies to the Dems. Any meaningful reduction in the U. S. presence in Afghanistan and/or Iraq would predictably hurt their corporate bottom lines, with these monies quickly shifting back to Republicans. For a graphic illustration of this concept, please refer to: http://www.opensecrets.org/industries/indus.asp?Ind=D

The advantage for the Dems is that they have moved so far into the territory once held by the Republicans, that the only means for the Republicans to distinguish themselves is by taking positions on the extreme right, a potentially self-destructive strategy.

This would seem to be the Dems strategy, in a nutshell.

  151. Sabyen91 says:

justasking, let me give you a little advice. If you like TP and would like to stick around…don’t be a jerk to other progs. You can get away with it with a lot of righties (if they really are trolls). I am a long-time poster but most people don’t know that because I changed handles but they absolutely realized you were attacking a liberal and it is not ok to do for no reason. I might be wrong. If so, somebody please let me know.

  157. Sabyen91 says:

  159. Sabyen91 says:

I don’t either Shayne. You also don’t know who I am. I was JPark awhile ago (pre-registration). So…a long time ago.

  160. Sabyen91 says:

Bigfoot, have you ever actually seen a study that says mainstream America is diametrically opposed to liberals? I have seen the opposite. You righties can’t sell an idea without lying.

  164. Sabyen91 says:

justasking, pseudo-intellectual is fine. It is an insult but it is better than being a big sucking vacuum of anti-intelligence. I am truly sorry. I know it isn’t your fault.

  165. Shayne says:

Wrong yet again, justasking. He did it for the future of the United States in a strategy that is simply beyond the comprehension of the radical left.

    Comment by O. Bigfoot — December 15, 2007 @ 2:51 am

Oh that is funny Biggoof, I can hardly stop laughing. This is a put on right. Nobody is delusional enough to believe W has done anything for the future of the United States. You must have meant the future of the oil companies, right? Oh you slay me you big joker you.

  166. Sabyen91 says:

    O. Bigfoot, tsk, tsk. It is sad what you believe.

  167. Sabyen91 says:

Sadly, the gender is now tainted.

  169. Sabyen91 says:

Ok, I responded to BERT once. Never again. It is pointless to talk to a neanderthal like him.

  170. Shayne says:

Project much justasking? Hey JPark you got pwnd? Funny I’ve never heard an intellectual tell somebody they just got pwnd intellectually or even owned for that matter.

  171. Sabyen91 says:

  172. Sabyen91 says:

  173. Shayne says:

Maybe that’s why you keep stepping on it Biggoof.

  174. Sabyen91 says:

    ‘“anti-intellectual”?!? You jibe like Hillary.’

What? Doesn’t every liberal use the word? Considering the right is exactly that? I seriously doubt your credentials.

  175. Sabyen91 says:

justasking, sorry, you weren’t talking to me. I wasn’t your target.

  176. Shayne says:

Yeah Bert we kind of lost our tolerance when W stole the second elections. Now we don’t take any prisoners. Better get with the program. Your way behind the curve, but you’re staying in your comfort zone that way. You want tolerance why don’t you go watch O’Reilly, everything I know about tolerance I learned at Fox News.

  177. Sabyen91 says:

“Mainstream America consists of the outright majority, Shayne.”

Check out any generic Republican vs. Dem poll. Republicans are good at lying or they would NEVER win an election.l

  194. Sabyen91 says:

  195. Sabyen91 says:

And if you don’t get it unimpenetrable is a joke.

  196. Sabyen91 says:

  203. Sabyen91 says:

  206. Sabyen91 says:

  207. Sabyen91 says:

  208. Sabyen91 says:

Is this your first trip to a liberal blog? Or are you this incompetent on every one.

  209. Sabyen91 says:

I am ok with being vulgar. I am at peace with it.

  210. Sabyen91 says:

    Are you born again?

  211. Shayne says:

That’s right JPark we can be less vulgar but justasking will always be just as boring. Sad really. Good thing this thread is dead anyway otherwise we’d have to flag he/she.

  220. Gregor Samsa says:

As for the appropriation bill, I don’t care what the twit says. There should be no more funding for any military adventures in the Middle East, or anywhere else in the world, regardless of whether or not it’s “just” an appropriation bill.

  221. Sabyen91 says:

It is 2:35. I am not going to flag someone that is providing me amusement (ok, I admit, I am not bored).

  222. Shayne says:

Yes I’m from Chicago, well not far from Chicago, actually I’m only out in the suburbs but have to go into the city every Saturday for my daughter’s music lesson. And then I have to go back Monday for an appointment. I should move back there.

  223. Sabyen91 says:

Good point, Shayne. Apparantly all libs are supposed to be pseudo intellectuals. That is a very loaded right wing word but she had no idea what an anti-intellectual was (i.e. conservative).

  224. Sabyen91 says:

“I haven’t stated by political affliations if that’s what you mean. Finding out how liberal one is takes a while. Not something you put on your voter registration card.”

Are you stoned? You questioned my progressiveness from the first comment.

  225. Shayne says:

I was watching Gwen Ifill on PBS this evening and there was a guy with a pretty good explanation of why the Democratic majority is having so many problems getting their agenda passed. If it wasn’t so late I could probably remember. TP might have something on it tomorrow though.

  226. Sabyen91 says:

Hmm, I have never heard Hillary curse at anybody. And you know I am hot so…

  227. Shayne says:

That’s right justasking, your an “independent”. Very stereotypical. You can get away with clearing a thread like this one time because nobody cares tonight but next time you will get yourself flagged. FYI.

“Yes I’m from Chicago, well not far from Chicago, actually I’m only out in the suburbs but have to go into the city every Saturday for my daughter’s music lesson. And then I have to go back Monday for an appointment. I should move back there.”

I know exactly what you mean. I live between Madison and Milwaukee. Anything good and I have to drive an hour.

  229. Shayne says:

I didn’t even know there was a place for “liberal” on a voter registration card. Are you old enough to vote justasking?

Looks like my Mets had previously had a few, too, at least I heard LoDuca (recently traded to the Nats), plus Todd Hundley and one of my (sigh) old faves, Todd Pratt. But it looks like the 2000 Yankees were chock-full of ‘em.

But I don’t want to go off topic here–the topic apparently being ‘why is justasking acting like a jerk’. I’m kinda curious (and confused) as to what justasking is talking about with the “Zooey…daytime…real intellectuals” bit.

  232. Shayne says:

I can getr in the city in 20 minutes when there’s no traffic, about once a year. Usually it a 90 minute ride unfortunately.

Fortunately my town is ignored when it comes to voting. We have a lot of hillbillies.

  234. Shayne says:

I think justasking is trying to dazzle us with his brilliance, or baffle us with his bullshit, one. What are you doing up so late Jane? Or is it morning time for you already?

  235. Sabyen91 says:

Lo Duca seems like he just might be one of the big players.

It started when I challenged her view on the funding bill. I didn’t even challenge her. I just stated what I thought. She then jumped on me and called me a troll. I tried to get clarification…but I was just a troll. It kinda went on from there.

  236. Shayne says:

We read the thread justasking and Sabyen91 did no such thing. You decided to pick one poster to go after and derail the thread. Don’t think for a minute anybody here believes you had a positive mission. If you want that crap to fly you better go back to the conservative sites.

  237. Shayne says:

We a;; saw, that’s why she’s incurred so much wrath around here. Apparently she’s the only one who hasn’t noticed.

  238. Shayne says:

I’m off JPark, nice talking to you. Later.

  239. Shayne says:

Maybe you should look up rhetorical in the dictionary.

  240. Sabyen91 says:

Night Shayne. I am about to slap down this lying little lady. Her last post was full of crap.

  241. Jane E. Schneider says:

As usual, Shayne, I should be in bed, I’m still recuperating. We got home around 11:00 pm from the party, fed the cats, watched Keith at midnight, then decided to hit the blogs. I was flipping through the comments on this thread, and was real happy to see our old friend JP again! It’s kinda late for you, too, though, isn’t it?

  242. Jane E. Schneider says:

What the? You guys are going to leave me alone with justasking? Thanks! :(

  243. Shayne says:

It sure is Jane but later for you. We are bad girls.

  244. Sabyen91 says:

Sorry, the thread was outta control. I thought I’d impart a little info so there wasn’t so much noise. Sometimes you have to take out the pack leader.

You are lying. I am in no way a leader and I did not claim to be. I said what the hell I felt and that is it.

” You were it. Now things are substantially more quiet. so much so it’s in private chat. where most of this stuff belongs. If I am new to these sites then like others your representation of being a political progressive or liberal was not a good one.”

Now, that is your opinion and it is clear your opinion is not exactly sought out. I have not been here for maybe 6 months and I have a different name. Apparently my progressive representation was a bit more realistic than yours.

I thought you were a paid shill. You act like one by you ofhandedness and vulgarity. Paid shills do that on other sites to disparage the blogs effectiveness and prominence. So it looks ugly to the casual surfer so that won’t get involved. You incite…not foster discussion.

Now, that is just stupid. You wouldn’t know a troll if it hit you in the mouth. Offhandedness and vulgarity? Join the human race. You can’t decide what is ugly to the casual surfer. That is the job of TP. Sure I incite. But you did first. I tried to ask you how I was a troll but you just kept at it. You claim I incite. Fine. You might want to look in the mirror first though.

By the way, this was a very polite response to your post.

  245. Sabyen91 says:

Not leaving, Jane. Just took awhile with my response.

  246. Sabyen91 says:

Are you guys Gints or Jets fans?

  247. Shayne says:

Too polite. You sir are a true gentleman.

  248. Sabyen91 says:

Thank you. I am guessing I will get a rude response.

  249. Jane E. Schneider says:

Justasking, a word of advice, take it as you wish: If you want to correct a misperception, you probably shouldn’t start by shouting “PEOPLE!” And I think it was quite obvious that Sabyen is a liberal, not a troll by any means.

  250. Sabyen91 says:

“I imagine that you could be a lot worse. That’s why I mentioned representation. You’re not a good representation of anyone’s political influence. You’re just a loud mouth. And you’re dry humpin this thread. It’s over. It’s been over.”

Are you joking? If what you say is true it is like scratching an itchy scabbie. Oh, you do know you are the scabbie right? My politeness is gone. You are fair game. Keep posting.

  251. Jane E. Schneider says:

Jets :( I have to be, their name is my full name’s initials.

  252. Sabyen91 says:

I think me being liberal is one of her pet peaves, Jane. She somehow says that I am a loudmouth (she might be right) but she is the one that has drawn the ire of no less than 6 long-time posters.

  253. Sabyen91 says:

justasking. I am pretty sure I don’t care who you think has insight. I would rather not be like mighty aphrodite. Thanks, though.

  254. Shayne says:

What conservatives don’t understand is we don’t need a church to be a community. You are the outsider justasking. And we don’t take kindly to outsiders being rude to one of our own. Get it? Do you? I don’t think you see the big picture here.

  255. Sabyen91 says:

While I feel sorry for you, Jane…at least you don’t root for that bunch of whiners that share the stadium with you.

  256. Shayne says:

Nobody really cares what you “need” jackass. Or what you want, or think or feel for that matter.

  257. Sabyen91 says:

“Don’t need your advice, Jane. Thanks.”

Wow, you have some balls on you. At least you don’t care what people think about you. I can respect that. That said…you are kind of a sh!thead.

  258. Jane E. Schneider says:

“You’re not a good representation of anyone’s political influence. You’re just a loud mouth. And you’re dry humpin this thread.”

You’re not exactly the best example of “How to Win Friends and Influence People.” And, talking about dry humping, I’ll borrow from Zooey: you’re the one with the dildo.

  259. Sabyen91 says:

You know what? With your attitude you will never be in any kind of club. Whether it is the freaking letterman’s club in high school or that club where you actually have a friend.

  260. Sabyen91 says:

Don’t bother, Jane. Kindness is lost on this one.

  261. Sabyen91 says:

I really do feel sorry for you justasking. Maybe you don’t want friends?

  265. Sabyen91 says:

Well, you are right!!! Here you go…here is the habeus corpus!!! Every freaking poster (that is not a troll) is for habeus corpus…but you decide to fight us instead of join us. I don’t get it.

  266. Sabyen91 says:

You can always go for that habeus corpus on your own, though. Good luck with that.

  267. Sabyen91 says:

By the way, Jane and her husband Wayne are a couple of the kindest people in the world. You insult them with your attitude. They WILL forgive you for it. I just hope you can forgive yourself.

  268. Sabyen91 says:

Congratulations. You still have no friends. Sad.

  269. Sabyen91 says:

I hope you get paid by the post.

  293. Jane E. Schneider says:

Oops, spoke too soon. Or, typed too slowly.

Ron Paul? Only to a certain degree. I prefer Kucinich, he adheres most closely to the Constitution. Unfortunately, the media is apparently too confused by so many candidates, so they only focus on the “top tier.”

But ya gotta love the way the rest of the country is finally learning about the real Rudy, right? :)

  294. Sabyen91 says:

Oh, I am up to 8. And counting.

  296. Wayne A. Schneider says:

    Comment by Sabyen91 — December 15, 2007 @ 4:59 am

Well, according to tests I’ve taken (and comments I’ve seen that I can agree with), I am a Liberal Libertarian. There are some aspects of Ron paul’s message that i like, but the ones I like seem to be duplicated by Dennis Kucinich (out of NAFTA, restore constitutional government). But I also feel that both the Democratic and Republican parties are responsible for the royal screwing Americans have been given buy Corporate America, so I am more than happy to see neither party controlling a majority of either House. I would love to see enough third party candidates (from any party gain enough seats so that coalition-building would be needed to get laws passed. I’m tired of the either-or crap they force upon us because they want only themselves to bein power. That’s why I started my “Give ‘em the Bird, Vote For a Third!” campain on my blog. ANd I have to say, that after several months, I can re-port that it has gone largely ignored.

As a result of that 4000+ thread, several of us started the blog I link to in my posts here (it’s a wordpress blog, so it makes it easier). Jane still posts to our blog (it’s hers, too).

  297. Sabyen91 says:

I almost did, too (well, my computer) searching for that record-comment thread. In fact, I think my computer’s still trying to ‘get it up’ in another window.

  299. Sabyen91 says:

I respect that, Wayne. I disagree but I respect it. I am going to try to get folks to vote for a guy a believe in…John Edwards. I would be a Kucinich guy but he won’t be elected (for stupid reasons). Edwards is a long-shot with all the DLC scum around but he is the guy who can slaughter any Republican that comes along.

  300. Sabyen91 says:

    Justasking, who is YOUR candidate?

  301. Sabyen91 says:

  302. Wayne A. Schneider says:

    Comment by Sabyen91 — December 15, 2007 @ 5:10 am

And Giuliani’s a blatant liar. He claims that his was one of the most transparent administrations in NYC history, and yet he was having questionable security expenses for his secret mistress billed to obscure government agencies, where they would be harder to find through FOIA requests. Transparent government my ass. And his security consulting business not only did business with people our government says are bad guys, but he collected some money consulting for the company that did some of the illegal wiretapping that went on. So he’s definitely scum. Why he enjoys any support among Republican voters is a mystery to me.

  303. Sabyen91 says:

I don’t know Wayne. He is almost a liberal in some ways. I never believed he would get the Repub nomination and Huckabee’s rising is proof. The thing is, I think Giuliani is the only guy that can beat any of the Dems.

  304. Sabyen91 says:

justasking, I am now a racist pig?

  305. Sabyen91 says:

  307. Wayne A. Schneider says:

    Comment by Sabyen91 — December 15, 2007 @ 5:18 am

One of the things I dislike about the whole election discussion is the idea that people should vote not for the candidate who best represents their views, but for the candidate that can win. As I see it, this is simply encouraging people to abandon their principles and try, instead, “to win”, as if winning is the most important thing. When you abandon your principles to vote for someone the media is telling you is the only one that can win (and they are the ones saying that, not necessarily the voters, and I think political opinion polls are bullsh!t, but that’s another story), then you are not voting for your candidate but someone else’s. That’s not Democracy. You should vote for the candidate YOU want, not for the candidate THEY say you should want.

  308. Jane E. Schneider says:

Don’t worry, we’re not “buy”ing Ron Paul. I really wish that Kucinich would be taken more seriously by the media. I registered on the Des Moined Register and laced into them for excluding him in the last Democratic debate. A lot of people were pissed off by that move.

Can I possibly hope that justasking’s “HAHA!” is in recognition of Wayne’s self-deprecating humor? Or is it in mean-spiritedness at the typos?

  309. Sabyen91 says:

Edwards HEDGE FUND was responsible for the closing of Whirlpool/Maytag plants??? Are you kidding? A hedge fund???? Wow.

  310. Sabyen91 says:

“One of the things I dislike about the whole election discussion is the idea that people should vote not for the candidate who best represents their views, but for the candidate that can win.”

I agree but that is the way it has always been. And this year is much better than most. I really do like Edwards.

  311. Sabyen91 says:

    “Don’t worry, we’re not “buy”ing Ron Paul.”

I am glad. The guy is nuts. He has one good idea. The rest of them…not so much.

  312. Sabyen91 says:

“Didn’t imply that you were racist. Other “icst” maybe. I just said you think you’re funny. And outta control and nuts.”

Well, I am not sure what other ist you could imply I am when you compare me to Michael Richards.

  313. Wayne A. Schneider says:

I agree but that is the way it has always been.

But that doesn’t mean we have to keep playing into the Corporate-controlled media’s hands and continue doing what they say we should. It’s the media that told us people like Kucinich, Gravel, Paul were “not viable candidates”. It was the media who told us that no one suppoorted them. It’s the media that refuses to ask these voters if they support impeaching the vice president or president. And then these supposed poll results become self-fulfilling prophecies. People get told that these less-known guys aren’t worth it, so people drop their support for them. If the media would stop reporting daily poll results from uninformed voters, and just reported what the candidates said in their speeches, the “lower-tier” (media framing) candidates would probably do a lot better come caucus and primary day.

  314. Sabyen91 says:

Who said I didn’t understand it? I chose to talk about Giuliani. You have an interesting sense of humor.

  315. Sabyen91 says:

Wayne, I have to say it is tough to feel I have to do something when I have Baldwin and Feingold representing me. I know it is unfair but I have great reps.

  316. Sabyen91 says:

Ok, justasking. Glad you are amused.

  317. Jane E. Schneider says:

I really do like Edwards, too, and would certainly not be sorry if he won the nomination. A bunch of polls that, I believe, Chris Matthews showed the other day indicated that Edwards was favored vs any of the Republican front-runners. I was surprised and pleased to see that.

I like Obama, he is very charismatic and inspiring, and it would be a slap in the face the old-white-boy club and to the racists out there.

  318. Sabyen91 says:

What is your problem justasking? Do you NEED attention?

  319. Sabyen91 says:

I don’t like Obama one bit. I haven’t since he supported Traitor Joe Lieberman.

  320. Sabyen91 says:

I have seen the polls, Jane. Edwards kicks all Republicans asses. Neither Hillary nor Obama do. What is wrong with Dems. Why would they vote for Hillary and Obama over Edwards when he would win by such large margins? I doubt his lead means he is taking away Republican votes.

  321. Sabyen91 says:

Considering my name is in every one of your posts…yeah, I think everything you say is about me.

You mean by not bothering to vote on the Kyl-Lieberman resolution? I see your point. That resolution is also one of several reasons that Hillary is not even under consideration by me.

  323. Sabyen91 says:

No, Jane. Obama was Lieberman’s protege. Obama endorsed Lieberman for Senate over the Democrat.

  324. Sabyen91 says:

  328. Jane E. Schneider says:

I just SAID that he thought he was being funny the same as you do but you both come off as not witty but just plain vulgar. You thought your own vulgarity was funny and the rest of the world that reads this post and know you have a political blog that you’re trying to run. We see your true nature. It’s nasty.

    Comment by justasking — December 15, 2007 @ 5:34 am

Your ambiguous use of pronouns makes it difficult to tell exactly who you’re addressing. Does “you both” refer to Sabyen and me, to Sabyen and Wayne, or to me and Wayne? If your comment started as a response to Sabyen, then switched to referring to Wayne (”you have a political blog that you’re trying to run”), perhaps you should have made it more clear.

However, I think it’s quite clear that you’re talking to yourself using the ‘royal’ “we” when you said “We see your true nature. It’s nasty.”

  329. Sabyen91 says:

Ok. Blogs are NOT social. TP kinda is or haven’t you noticed.

  330. Sabyen91 says:

And we all met on this particular blog. We have lively discussions on our blog. Don’t let anyone talk you out of a correct observation so easily. :)

  333. Sabyen91 says:

You do know when people are actually responding to each other…social. Yeah. Sorry. And if you don’t like people talking about vacations and the Mets…you might want to leave. And if you don’t like talk about the Packers you might REALLY want to leave.

Nor are blogs just forums for you to display your boorishness in as many comments as possible. You may have noticed that we were having a fine discussion about politics in your (welcome) absence. Besides, there are other blogs that you can visit that stay more strictly on-topic, I suggest DailyKos, why don’t you go ahead and take a look? Oh, that’s right, you don’t need any advice from the likes of me.

  338. Sabyen91 says:

Wayne, I already clicked on your wife and added it to my favorites. She told me your link goes to other things. And she is right :)

  339. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Hey, Sabyen91, congrats on the Packers. I’ll reserve comments on how they’ll fare against the NY Giants until the Giants actually clinch that playoff spot which, hopefully, will be this Sunday. Jane and I are Jets fans first, but when they start losing badly, we start rooting for the Giants. That was around week 4 or 5 this season.

  340. Sabyen91 says:

Unless the Giants get to the NFC championship game they won’t play (the Pack beat those whiners in the second game of the season). Shockey, Toomer…ugh, they like crying. Sorry :) I really didn’t like the way they acted in the game. I am really rooting for the Jets. I despise the Pats (and their fans).

  341. Sabyen91 says:

Again, I don’t have a blog. You assume a lot of things but you are always wrong. Doesn’t that ever bother you?

  342. Sabyen91 says:

  343. Wayne A. Schneider says:

I despise the Pats (and their fans).

    Comment by Sabyen91 — December 15, 2007 @ 6:12 am

Join the club! I loved it when they said the opening line onthe game was 27 points for the Pats, but could go lower if field conditions are expected to be bad (which they now are). So it went down to 24! If the Jets can’t lose by less than 24 points, they should go ahead and fire the head coach. I figure losing by less than 10 would bne cause for celebration, since the Pats like to blow out their opponents early (and often.)

What I don’t understand is why when they were caught cheating (and they were cheating), they didn’t have to forfeit that game. It might have had a severe impact on both their seasons. Instead they pay big fines (Bellichek can afford his, I’m sure) and a lose a draft pick, but they get to keep the win! That’s simply rewarding bad behavior, since the win was unfairly gained.

  344. Sabyen91 says:

Umm, never had a blog, never had the urge.

  345. Sabyen91 says:

Wayne, the Packers complained LAST year about it and nobody did anything. They have been cheating forever.

  346. Sabyen91 says:

What really sucks is the keep their highest draft choice. They are going to get Darren McFadden because the Niners stink.

It was metaphorical. And you really need to grow up. It is f^cking 5:25 in the morning. I think Wayne and I can talk about football if we feel about it without having a half-retarded troll bothering us. I might be wrong though.

  350. Wayne A. Schneider says:

To tell you the truth, S91, I don’t follow follow football to that level. When the Mets are doing well, I don’t even pay attention to football. Unfortunately for me, I stuck with them to the last game. So by the time I turned my attention to the Jets, the Giants had started winning again (after their own bad start), so I rooted for them. And the season is too short and my interest too little for me to bother paying attention to all the behind-the-scenes stuff. I don’t usually watch the pre-game shows, and I either blog or watch Wolf Blitzed ask foolish questions.

  351. Sabyen91 says:

I am a more of a football guy than a baseball guy. I will follow the Crew this year but the Packers are my #1.

  352. Sabyen91 says:

And you are not “sweet”. What is your point? Do you just want to be a d!ck? I think so.

  353. Sabyen91 says:

You are like a mosquito. You keep annoying. You get swatted once in awhile but you keep coming back and…well…you suck.

  354. Sabyen91 says:

No, it does not make it redundant. If I repeated it it would be redundant. You really don’t get the English language, do you?

  355. Jane E. Schneider says:

    “Jane’s turn sleeping.”
    Comment by justasking — December 15, 2007 @ 6:24 am

Nope. Just wondering why you’re still trying to be polite to me while you’re insulting Wayne. I also prefer to take the time to think about what I want to say and to try to choose my words carefully.

Now Wayne tells me that you’re picking on one of two typos that I’ve made in, what, 3 hours? Have some charity, I’ve been up all night.

  356. Sabyen91 says:

Blame it on me, Jane. I have turned this sweet, demure girl into a evil demon. Or you could be realistic and realize this girl is bitter and hateful.

  357. Sabyen91 says:

Report away, skank. You will never get the effect you want. :)

  358. Sabyen91 says:

The funny thing is I don’t even have to report you because you will never be welcome at TP with your incredible performance today.

  359. Sabyen91 says:

Umm, spit on=disrespected. Hard to understand?

  360. Jane E. Schneider says:

Nah…I just like to see you keep blowing your top so I can report each instance of abuse.

    Comment by justasking — December 15, 2007 @ 6:35 am

If you consider any of Sabyen’s responses to you as “blowing [his] top” or “abuse”, then all I can say is you haven’t been around blogs much, and you particularly haven’t been around some of the right-wing blogs–nasty, nasty stuff on those.

  361. Sabyen91 says:

What mistake did Jane make? And how is it ironic? Warning: I am guessing I will rip you for whatever stupid answer you give.

  362. Sabyen91 says:

I don’t feel the need to be charming to you, justasking. I am polite to most people out of respect. You don’t deserve that respect.

  363. Sabyen91 says:

Good point, Jane. I have been pretty mild compared to the right. I have also been pretty mild compared to the worst I can get. This little girl isn’t worth my worst shot, though.

  364. Jane E. Schneider says:

    Comment by justasking — December 15, 2007 @ 6:39 am

If I were criticizing your spelling, that would have made my typo (yes, of course I know how to spell “suit”) ironic. I do make typos, we all do, but I usually catch them right away and correct them.

  365. Sabyen91 says:

justasking, your little red flag doesn’t scare anybody. Nobody has done anything wrong, not even me. You have come back over and over and over. I think you like abuse.

  366. Sabyen91 says:

“Or syhould I say the administrator. Either way, even if they don’t totally ban his name…it brings attention to his posts. Doesn’t look good when you’re trying to impress Faiz and stuff.”

I am not trying to impress anyone. syhould I try? Nobody is going to ban me for what I have said. You might get banned though for being a waste of time.

  367. Sabyen91 says:

Ok, justasking, flat is something I worry about.

  368. Sabyen91 says:

You do realize your idiotic reporting is going to get you banned right? Not that you care. Nobody likes you anyway.

  369. Jane E. Schneider says:

    Comment by justasking — December 15, 2007 @ 6:47 am

Can I ask, in all seriousness, how long you have been reading TP? Until they started registration, they might as well have not had an administrator. Abusive comments (including death threats against commenters), racist comments, name-hijackings, etc., all got through and stayed up despite protests emailed to the administrator. I am pretty positive that no one else who read these last couple of hours of posts would consider any of Sabyen’s comments to you abusive.

  370. Sabyen91 says:

I have perfect pitch. I don’t know flat.

  371. Sabyen91 says:

Jane, doesn’t mean she doesn’t have a persecution complex. It might be sad if it is true.

  372. Sabyen91 says:

    “We might make 500.”

Is that admission that you are a troll?

  373. roolark says:

“Buy Congress A Backbone”. I like that idea… a LOT. Good way to get the message across maybe? If we could find a CHEAP (inexpensive) plastic spine (the kind used for anatomy classes), we could order in-bulk and each mail one to our reps and senators.

Imagine thousands of backbones showing up at their offices… it may be effective.

I wonder if MoveOn dot org could pick up on this idea? We should do it.

  374. Sabyen91 says:

Jane, don’t bother. She is an troll and should be treated as such.

  375. Sabyen91 says:

Ironic that you originally called ME a troll, eh, justasking?

  376. Jane E. Schneider says:

    Comment by roolark — December 15, 2007 @ 7:04 am

If I may be so crude, it might be cheaper if we all just send each member of Congress a pair of blue-colored balls. The campaign could be “Buy Congress a Set.”

  377. Sabyen91 says:

Jane, not blue. That means they actually feel something.

  378. Sabyen91 says:

Ok, folks, let’s make this the last comment of the night for this post.

  379. Nat says:

    What a bunch of pμssies.

  380. Sabyen91 says:

Unless you have something nasty to say about justasking. I would love to make her famous, for being an empty headed bimbo.

  381. Sabyen91 says:

Aww, you got 500 yourself. I don’t think that counts. Maybe you could send me YOUR pair, dude.

  382. Jane E. Schneider says:

No, Jane. You cannot ask. But thanks again anyway.

    Comment by justasking — December 15, 2007 @ 7:05 am

Well, actually, I can (and did) ask, but you certainly have the right not to answer.

Well, it’s been a long night, and I have to get some sleep. Sabyen, it’s been great talking to you again. Please stop by to see us any time. :) Goodnight!

  383. Sabyen91 says:

    Night Jane, I certainly will.

  384. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Good night (morning?) Sabyen91. Enjoy your weekend, and try not to think about the ignorant people we see post here. Especially the ones who display terrible reading comprehension. Not worth your frustration.

  385. Sabyen91 says:

Who would you shake hands with, justasking? Your invisible friend? You don’t have any real ones.

  386. Sabyen91 says:

I am not frustrated. I am amused. Have a good night Wayne.

Hmmm, according to my computer, your 7:12 am post is #500. ‘Night!

  388. Sabyen91 says:

LOL, not kidding? Sweet :) Night you two.

  389. Sabyen91 says:

Your projection is embarassing. Get a training bra.

  390. Sabyen91 says:

Time for bed. Congratulations on 500 justasking…your life is complete.

  391. Perry logan says:

President Bush’s success rating in the Democratic-controlled House has fallen this year to a half-century low, and he prevailed on only 14 percent of the 76 roll call votes on which he took a clear position.

“So far this year, Democrats have backed the majority position of their caucus 91 percent of the time on average on such votes. That marks the highest Democratic unity score in 51 years.”

Don’t let the media rhetoric fool you. The Democrats have acquitted themselves quite well–especially given their bare majority in both houses, and a relentlessly obstructionist Republican minority.

  392. tarazan says:

War machine is the most expensive one.It takes billions to keep it going.

I thought past experiences like Viet Nam war might have taught the Congress something, but here we are again caught by the same war trap.
This time it is in a different part of the world, with different reasons given..but the lives lost and dollars spending are , as always in every war, remain the same.

Pelosi and co. promised to press the brake pedal on war spending after their big victory last year, with slogans like ‘No blank checks for war’…we also hear a lot about coming ‘benchmarks’.

But Bush is now getting double the amount of dollars he was getting before the elections.
All promises went in smoke and Pelosi,as a new Speaker, proved to be just another big talking politician.

  393. Jason M. Hendler says:

Anyone here notice that the Dems did this at the end of a news cycle. No one will even know about this until Sunday, when the news is 2 days old.

I would like to congratulate the Dem Congress on a good energy bill, increasing CAFE standards, in cooperation with the UAW and the big 3 US automakers. I am confident, with that type of good policy making, they will be able to revisit the domestic energy production portion of the bill that failed to pass, sit down with congressional representatives from each state, and determine what works for all states.

Good job Congress, you are now working on America’s future.

  394. Menehune says:

516… Jason. Yes–I see what they did. The Dems have learned their lessons well from their masters. The journey to the Dark Side is now complete.

  396. curmudgeon says:

Thought I’d try to repost this, since when I did so last night, it seems that I interrupted a personal chat room discussion:

    Comment by curmudgeon — December 15, 2007 @ 2:09 am

The following quote by Ralph Nader in 2000 explains it all…

“The only difference between Bush and Gore is the velocity with which their knees hit the floor when corporations knock at the door.”

  397. Capt. Al says:

    Dear Sir.
I will tell you this much; the disgraceful, cowardly actions and in-actions of Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Dianne Feinstein and the rest of the spineless Democrats makes them all enablers to the insane policies and idealogies of Bush and the Rest of the Republicans. They have a lions share of the guilt and the blame, their hands are just as bloody. To vote for any Democrats now is to declare oneself an enabler as well. There is no “good” choice. There is no “lesser of two evils”. They are one and the same.
I refuse to share in the guilt. I refuse to share the shame. The Democratic “leadership” has proven that we are powerless. Therefore, other than expressing this opinion to all, I will not participate in the ‘08 “elections”.
    Thanks for nothing.

  398. Doc Rock says:

The Dems disappoint again! Make the Repugs pay for their damned war of Bush family revenge. Where are the Greens?

  399. S.D. says:

    (sigh)
I really hope that members of the Democrat party are reading this.

After being a registered independent my entire adult life, I joined the Democrat party out of disgust for the way this country is being run and my desire to see things change. I’m not alone in that. I personally know several Republicans who feel that Republican party is NOT a conservative party but a Radical Right Wing party that does not represent their values.

Apparently, at least to an extent, the Electorate agreed with me.
The Democrats came to power with the electorate expecting change. They weren’t voted in to be a continuing rubber stamp to this administration. So far, every single time this administration wants something, regardless of how the public wants change, the Democrats give in without fail.

Why is Sen. Reid even bothering to block Recess Appointments? As I write this, Sen. Reid has expressed his intent to bring a bill to the floor granting Telecoms retroactive Immunity.

The Democrats are in a position to expose the Republican Party as the obstructionists in moving the Nation forward, but they refuse every time.

If the Democrat Party really want change, It’s Way Past time to exercise Political Backbone and force issues.
If tier not willing to truly take a stand, then they just continue to be a Rubber Stamp to this administration.

  400. drtichy says:

    WOW!
So Bush IS a dictator, isn’t he?
He has the power to get whatever he wants, disregarding the law and the Congress.
I am so ashamed that the elected Dems are just a bunch of cowards. And worse, it seems that they are the only option we have…

  401. Anjuna Laguna says:

  402. HighPlainsJoker says:

    # 87 O.Bigfoot, (should read Bigmouth, no research capability) Before you comment so authoritatively, you should be sure that the US CIA waterboards in the fashion you think, and how do you know that the CIA has not killed several waterboarded prisoners? You don’t because you have no facts, because your gommit will not give out any. Not that they should, under the circumstances.

And I will not take the time or energy to comment at length about your idiotic view of the “war” in Iraq. You need to read up on guerilla warfare and insurrections and get back to us all. Such a simplistic view after all the evidence since Mar 2003 is inexcusable.

Please note that I have refrained from calling you a name appropo your intelligence, though it was difficult.

  403. S.D. says:

    # 525 HighPlainsJoker, That’s exactly the problem. This administration does not want any Oversight or accountability.

Apparently, by rolling over each and every time, The Democrats agree.

  404. Reichy Hunter says:

Wow. I’m sorry that most of this thread has turned out to be pure spam, courtesy of mock progressive, ‘justasking.’

    Comment by S.D

Please do not contribute to the Republiscum’s insults to the Democrats. It is the “Democratic” party, not the “Democrat” party. You are a “Democrat” and a member of the “Democratic” party.

  406. curmudgeon says:

All you need to know to understand politics in the United States today is that money rules, and the large corporations call the shots no matter who is in power.

Unfortunately, this has left the Democratic party with two choices, both of which carry significant drawbacks:

    1) They can be right on the issues, represent the wishes of the common people, see corporate campaign contributions disappear altogether, and return to a state of even greater insignificance as a completely neutered minority party.

    2) They can sell out to their corporate masters, and, to the extent that any sense of decency remains, satisfy their benefactors, but at the same soften the adverse impact upon the common people to the extent that it does not offend those whose contributions are vital for their continued existence.

As long as corporate money rules, no meaningful change is possible. Until enough people demand that corporate money and influence be removed from the political equation, expect little, if any, departure from the status quo.

The power of the theocorpotocracy in this country cannot be underestimated. I define this term, which I cannot find in the dictionary as: the three-legged stool, the unholy alliance upon which power in this country rests — fundamentalist churches to deliver the votes, corporations to provide the money, and bought politicians who continue to curry the favor of the churches and corporations.

Should more citizens of this country eventually clamor for such changes, be assured that the theocorpotocracy in this country will not go down without a fight, the likes of which has not been witnessed in this country since the Civil War.

  407. S.D. says:

bilbobaggins, A typo on my part, but the point is, I’m still a a member of the Democratic party and very disappointed.

I don’t know, Maybe the Democratic Party members in Congress and the Senate are afraid of looking “Weak” on “Terror”.

At the end of the day, IMO, our Nation is still going in the wrong direction.

    Comment by justasking — December 15, 2007 @ 12:37 am

I only read up to comment #154, but I have to say ‘justasking’ is making some good points (minus the personal attacks). I think we have to realize this is not easy with the slim majority we have in congress. Congress seems to be dangling small bites with small conditions in every bite. So while it appears we are giving bush what he wants, we’re not. While I understand the want to defund the war entirely, congress doesn’t agree and doesn’t have the votes to do it.

  409. Jeremy in Denver says:

Curmudgeon, a thumbs up for your thought-provoking post. Theocorpotocracy. I like that word…though I might realign it to ‘theocorporocracy’ myself…and yes. Fundamentalist Churches funded by Big Business in order to deliver the votes for the corrupted mouthpieces in DC. Sums our government up nicely.

  410. tombaker says:

    Next Fall changes All.

  411. Keith says:

Don’t know what the Democratic leadership’s strategy is. but the money hasn’t been given yet—just “promised”. From NYT today:

“The Senate on Friday passed a defense policy bill for the 2008 budget year. It authorizes $696 billion in military spending, including $189 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. But it does not actually send any money to the Pentagon.”

Bush was complaining on the radio today that the money was not actually sent.

I agree with only Kucinich among all the candidates. Not one more penny for the war! It is counterproductive and we don’t have the money.

Looks like Sabyen and justasking really did not understand one another. Neither is a rightie nor a troll—sympathetic or otherwise.

  412. Jason M. Hendler says:

Wow, it seems to have worked. I watched FNS and Chris Matthews, and NONE of them even mentioned Congress passing war funding. It was covered Saturday, then dropped by Sunday.

Actually, “progressives” do have a choice. This year, then can again run “progressives” against the Clintonista candidates in the primaries, to improve their “mix” within the Dem congress.

  413. Jason M. Hendler says:

A question for libs – why don’t you push for a new Senate Majority Leader? Dianne Feinstein strikes me as a Senator smart enough to take yes for an answer, and not plan Quixotic strategies. Pelosi seems to capitulate late, but not TOO late like Reid, and you can claim having the first woman Senate Majority Leader in history – then you can run on Pelosi, Feinstein and Clinton as a trifecta.

Honestly, I said long ago that Hill’reh’s best move was to shoot for Senate Majority Leader, but she just wouldn’t settle for anything less than President – her loss, Feinstein’s gain.
