Bush knew — Iran NIE edition.
President Bush has said he first learned that there was new intelligence on Iran’s nuclear program “in August” when DNI Mike McConnell told him “we have some new information.” The White House later revealed that Bush was told at that time that Iran’s nuclear weapons program “may be suspended.” Gareth Porter of IPS News writes that “it now appears” that “Bush likely knew about that intelligence as early as February or March 2007,” months before the White House has conceded.

Was it included in a PDB? Did Bush’s eyes glaze over when this was being discussed? Was he thinking about Barney that morning? Did it go in one ear and out the other? Was the critical information downplayed during its presentation? Was the thrust of that day’s PDB about how to repress this inconvenient information?
Bush being told critical information doesn’t necessarily mean that he actually understood and retained the information.

Yet our Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, is working behind the scenes with House Democrats, not to build a consensus for impeachment, but to do just the opposite. To keep others from succeeding in their effort to hold this president accountable by means of impeachment.
With the FISA bill looming in the Senate, we have to show the leaders of the House and Senate that this is still our country. Please read the petition to replace Pelosi with a Democratic Representative who will bring impeachment proceedings to the floor.

Sacopenapa, the last pa sounds like “panamerica”. It means in Tupi Guarani, the aborigenes from Brazil, dark lagoon. It was the original name of the lagoon in Rio de Janeiro, the one that is around Ipanema (another Tupi Guarani name). Sacopenapa=Dark lagoon.

Most of them are illegal immigrants, which makes for some local friction, but you should see the spontaneous parades they tie traffic up with when something good happens for Brazil.
