Judge orders WH to reveal Christian leader visits.

Earlier today, a federal judge ordered the Secret Service to “disclose records of visits by nine prominent conservative Christian leaders to the White House and Vice President Dick Cheney’s residence.” U.S. District Court Judge Royce Lamberth wrote that “The most that can be said is the Secret Service acts as if the White House has legal control over these records. Upon closer inspection, however, even this proposition seems suspect.” Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington have been seeking the records since the fall of 2006.

Of course, this White House will ignore this judge’s order like it ignores the other branch of government, but it shows that at least in theory we have a system of checks and balances.

  8. Keith says:

    CHL,
You have an understanding problem. Noone says Christian leaders cannot visit the White House. We would just like it to be public who visits the White House. And Reagan, GHW Bush and W have been a heck of lot more friendly to Koran-reading countries like Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Pakistan than Carter or Clinton.

I remember one of the “huge scandals” during Clinton was who slept in the Lincoln bedroom. I don’t remember conservatives yelling “protected presidential documents” then!

  9. Keith says:

I would still like to know how many sleepovers Jeffy Gannon/Guckert had at the White House under Bush. Not under Bush, but during Bush. You know what I mean. ;)

  10. tombaker says:

I think he meant “when the Clinton protected you from those other 9/11’s” chilly.

  11. Keith says:

cold_limp_rightie, There is no evidence Clinton “sold us out to China”. It is true that the enormous trade and budget deficits from Reagan, Bush, and Bush have caused us to be partly owned by China and other foreign countries.

  12. tombaker says:

I agree with Keith – the numerous overnight visits to the WH made by that gay prostitute man who was posing as a member of the press corps is definitely more interesting.

Prostitutes, Chilly, have been around throughout human history, and are people who have sex with other people in exchange for money.

  13. Keith says:

    tombaker,
In all fairness, we do not know if Jeffy was gay. We just know from his websites that he got paid for having sex with men. There’s a difference.

  17. ucsbclassics53 says:

CHL, you obviously have a reading comprehension problem. There is nothing that prevents Bush from meeting these conservative Christian leaders. Fine, let him meet them all he wants, but we want to know who goes in and out, kind of how you conservatives wanted to know who slept over in the Lincoln Bedroom while Clinton was president. Why the double standards?

It’s panic, mostly. Even a complete dunce like this one can see that the country is headed for a sea change, that the vast majority of Americans are thoroughly sick of the incompetence, venality and sheer uselessness of the current administration. Since the troll has nothing of any real substance that might reverse the trend, the only recourse is to fling poop. Poop doesn’t have to mean anything, it doesn’t have to have any relationship to reality or to discussions at hand. It’s just poop.

It’s meant to smell bad and irritate people. But it’s just poop and the troll is the only one touching it.

  47. tombaker says:

woops, maybe i went a little too quickly for you, chilly.

Let’s start with the Abolitionist movement, right here at home, in the 17 and 1800’s. It was a movement to eliminate slavery. Slavery is when humans are bought and sold by/to other humans. I know it will come as a shock to you, but in Early America, slavery was widely accpeted, except by some “crazy moonbat liberals” and their friends, who were Church leaders. Together, the “crazy moonbat liberals”, and their friends, the Church Leaders, fought a long and bloody struggle against the “Righties”, who thought that slavery was awesome, because it helped them make lots of money, and they, unlike Christians, thought that making lots of money was the most awesome thing they could do as humans.

Long story short = Crazy Moonbat Liberals, and their friends, the Church Leaders, brought an end to what turned out to be an abominable and shameful period of history.

Now you finish your cocoa (it’s from South America, too) and be off to bed. There is much more to learn tomorrow, lil’ feller.

Maybe because Bush himself has said he consults with these folks often, the Christian representatives have said they meet with Bush and his people weekly and they are affecting our nation’s policies? Seems like a legit reason. I don’t hear many rabbi’s or yogi’s getting the same influence on our government so quit pretenduing your faith is being attacked and be proud that your faith is helping run this country right now. You should learn when to acknowledge success – Christians are running this country, they are why Romney had to profess his dedication to God – but not Mormonism per-say, they are why Hillary pretends to be a church-goer, they are why Huckabee makes cell phone calls to God and still has a shot in hell of being elected by your party.

You might be on to something. His devotion does seem to indicate the type of response you’d find in someone who is in fear and lashing out in all directions to defend himself – As well as his unbridled affection for his Daddy-figure Bush who guards and protects him from evil-doers.

  105. bilbobaggins says:

CHL – here’s your answer, for this particular lawsuit. There are others asking for the records of Abramoff and others to the White House:

“We think that these conservative Christian leaders have had a very big impact,” said Executive Director Melanie Sloan of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, which filed the case.

“The White House doesn’t want to talk about how much influence these leaders have, and we want to talk about how much they do have,” she said.

Now, let me ask you a question. If the suit had been filed against Bush asking for the records of prominent Jewish leaders who have been to the White House, would you be having this hissy fit?

And in that university library, you will find history books of the earliest records of the origin of the God of the Abrahamic Faiths, which includes Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

Yahweh was originally a sky god – a god of thunder and lightning. He was also associated with hills mountains and volcanoes. He was associated also with fire. Historical Fact.

He required blood sacrifice. Sometimes it was the blood of enemies. Sometimes livestock and other animals. Sometimes believers were asked to sacrifice their own children, depending on the incarnation. Historical Fact.

And to this day, the Children of Abraham, including Judaism, Christianity and Islam, shed the blood of others, including their own Siblings of Abraham. Historical Fact, and Current Events.

Too bad more people don’t really read history and wake the hell up.

    Now I’m gonna be called a fanatical Athiest…. Oh,no….

  119. Gregor Samsa says:

Then the racist Dems left the Democratic party and joined the Republicans.

Now you see how the Republican party became (and still is) the party of the racist.

They will make you wear a burqa while working overtime to pay enormous taxes to support universal healthcare to everyone except white people and pay for entitlement payments to illegal immigrants. You will be forced to bow to Mecca and dance for the pleasure of your Chinese and Saudi overlords. Hordes of naked gay jihadis will use you as a concubine. Sundays, you will not be allowed to go to church, but will instead be sent to toil in the fields of an African American farmer as part of the government-mandated reparations program. Oh yes–it’s all coming soon. Your name is near the top of the list.

  143. patooty says:

Off topic but comical: On Huffpo Bill is embracing Bush #41 as though he’s his father! It states further that once Hillary is elected, she will send the two of them (Clinton and Bush 41) on a good will mission to repair our rep internationally. THIS IS A HUGE ERROR ON THE PART OF THE CLINTON CAMPAIGN> The public alliance of Bill and Bush 41 will link these two men in the minds of america forever now.

Besides, those of us who do our homework already know that Clinton is as guilty of war crimes in the depleted uranium problem as Bush 41 and Bush 43. They are now partners in crime. This proves it.

Clinton is Bush Lite. Always was and always will be. Clinton is Bush’s “poodle”, affiliated with AIPAC and everything wrong with this administration.

A vote for Hillary Clinton will be a vote for another Bush puppet.

  144. patooty says:

I’ve always had questions about this alliance (Pappy Bush and Bill Clinton) and this seals it for me.

  145. Menehune says:

181…CHL–You must just shake your head at all the poor deluded minorities in this country. Why do they vote Democratic, when it is SO clear that the Republicans are the ones that want them in their party, neighborhoods and country clubs? Your party just isn’t getting that message of “inclusion” out there. Perhaps your time would be better spent working with the Latino and African-American communities to understand just how good the last seven years have really been for them. That’s not starvation you’re feeling, those are FREEDOM pangs! And this isn’t an eviction notice, it is LIBERATING you from your house!

That may be your most insane posting yet. Yes, The Republicans were, note were, the party of Lincoln, but that ship sailed long ago and now the Republican party’s leadership is filled with bigots, racists, and closeted self-loathing gays. Continue to insist things that are demonstrably untrue and cherry pick past misdeeds of democrats and fringe democrats who have no power while your party’s entire platform and reason for existing is class warfare and fear mongering. The will ensure that your party goes the way of the Whigs.

Then how do you explain all the racist Dems jumping ship and joining up with the Republicans?

“At the Democratic National Convention in 1948, Minneapolis mayor Hubert H. Humphrey introduced the civil rights plank calling for the rights of “full and equal political participation; equal opportunity of employment; security of person; and equal treatment in the service and defense of our nation.” He then delivered an impassioned speech demanding that the Democrats recognize that “the time has come . . . to get out of the shadow of states’ rights and forthrightly into the bright sunshine of civil rights.” Thirty-five southern Democrats walked out of the convention, formed the States’ Rights Party (Dixiecrats), held their own convention, and nominated Strom Thurmond their presidential candidate. [Johnson, National Party Platforms, p. 435; Carol Solberg, Hubert Humphrey: A Biography (New York: W.W. Norton & Company, 1984), pp. 11-18.]”

    http://www.gwu.edu/~erpapers/mep/displaydoc.cfm?docid=jfk20

Sen. Thurmond was a REPUBLICAN when he shuffled off this mortal coil. Republicans have been, and still are, the true party of the racists.

  148. Democrat Soldier says:

“The newly appointed head of the US House of Representatives subcommittee on terrorism and domestic security said last week that he agreed with the incarceration of more than 100,000 Japanese-Americans during World War II.

Speaking on a February 5 radio call-in show, Howard Coble, a Republican representative from North Carolina, said the internment was “appropriate at the time,” adding, “We were at war. We were under attack by a sovereign nation.””

The Republican party has been, and remains to this day, the party of the racists.

  150. Democrat Soldier says:

Makes one wonder why the NAACP gave Sen. Byrd a 100% approval rating, if he we’re still a racist.

He’s not. He apologized for his past actions, and has done a great deal for his black constituents than most Republicans have ever done.

Sen. Thurmond NEVER APOLOGIZED for HIS racist past.

cold hard left: ““Progressive Politics” date back to the earliest days of Stalinism.”

Could someone get dumber than this? Hard to imagine. Thomas Paine, one of the nation’s founders believed in free healthcare for everyone, a social safety net for everyone and was an outspoken athiest. Thomas Jefferson believed in free education for everyone and thought that there should be no standing army in peacetime. John Adams, the nations first “conservative,” believed that Christianity was basically a crime committed on reason and society. Long before Stalin, Teddy Roosevelt believed in inheritance taxes, progressive taxation and child labor laws.

These are all “progressive” policies. One of Stalin’s first acts upon rising to power was to round up university professors and “liberals” and send them off to gulags.

  159. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

The other canard this “Cold hard left” keeps repeating is this absurd idea that the Chinese got nuclear secrets from Clinton.

The Chinese tested their first neutron bomb in 1985. In the early 90’s, the Chinese got newer nuclear weapons technology from Pakistan’s AQ Khan. The record shows that in the late 80’s the CIA warned the Reagan and then the first Bush administration that Khan was dangerous, but Reagan and Bush did nothing about him. Those are the facts you moron.

This site is where you get facts, not frickin Free Republic.

  160. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

Cold hard idiot: “Why are Christian leaders the only target of the lawsuit? Answers?”

Do you see any indication that leaders of other denominations are engaging in electoral politics and talking political strategy with the executive branch? If you do, let’s have it.

  161. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

Cold hard idiot: ” it is the DEMOCRAT party that was and always has been the party of the racist.”

Do the words “Southern Strategy” mean anything to you. If not, google on those words and 1968 and find out.

  162. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

cold hard idiot: “A little known fact of history involves the heavy opposition to the civil rights movement by several prominent Democrats.”

Yes. All of them were from the south. Life-long democrat Strom Thurmond, for example, left the party when it became clear that the Democratic party was being taken over by northern Democrats who were dedicated to the idea of civil rights.
