Number of journalists in 17 countries who died while covering the news in 2007 — the deadliest year since 1994, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. Iraq “led the list for the fifth year in a row, with 31 dead — one fewer than a year ago.”

You have stats on this? Or is this just a factoid you’re pulling out of your butt?

In Iraq, for example, there are radical Muslims overtly trying to exterminate all “infidels”, sectarian Muslims fighting a civil war, Muslims trying to defend themselves from getting killed, Muslims just trying to get out of the way, and foreign mercenaries fighting purely for the money. There are also roadside bombs which could have been placed by anyone, and plain old fashioned accidents. Journalists who get killed in war zones can meet their fate for any number of reasons.

The story linked by TP above says that most were murdered after being kidnapped in Iraq.

Journalists have also been murdered by Islamists in Somalia, The Philippines and Thailand.

Coming in second and third, after the Islamists, are the Mexican drug cartels and the Russian mafia, when it comes to killing reporters….but I have no doubt that you folks will blame it all on the dreaded Chimpy Mc Boooshsky.

The left for too long has let the right get away with stealing elections, wholesale character assassination, influence-buying, election-stealing, and then, once they’re in office, they go about shredding the Constitution, raping the justice system and emptying the treasury into their pockets. There is no basis for rational discussion with sociopaths, and it’s about time that the dems used some of the Repigs tactics on them. This play nice bullshit has gotten us out of the frying pan, into the fire. Bush should have been clobbered daily with his drunkenness, drug abuse, desertion and incompetence. Cheney should have been called a war profiteer every day from the first, because he was then and he is now. What utter and complete garbage. You equate a single battlefield accident from April 8, 2003 – when Baghdad hadn’t even fallen and Saddam’s goons were using journalists as human shields – with the deliberate abduction of over 150 journalists and their intentional murder thereafter? Complete sophistry, please do yourself and favor and drop this absurd comparison.

A tank shell kills three journalists in a hotel from which enemy fire is coming during an urban assault.

This equals the kidnapping and murder of “124 reporters, photographers and editors, and the 49 other news employees killed since the U.S. invasion in 2003″ on Planet Lefty Patriot.

    It wasn’t an accident because:

1.- If you don’t know the fact, the Palestine Hotel is very distinctive from the outside. The military had digitalized pictures of the main edifices, including specially the Hotel, because was house of the foreing journalists in Baghdad. The not imbedded. All of them.

2.- The standard procedure for the reporters was to inform of their GPS location to the USA HQ. There were hundreds of journalists informed at that precise location at the time of the shelling.

3.- The tank stood for 20 MINUTES before the Hotel prior to fire.

4.- Tanks must check with HQ to fire, reporting the situation of “under fire”. The situation wasn’t of incommunication.

5.- No shot came from the Hotel Palestine. This is koolaid for people like you. There are hundreds of journalists to attest it.

Was a case of bad judgement and knowingly firing at a civilian target that was no threat. Anyhow, a war crime.
