Mukasey’s new policy limits political interference at DoJ.»

The Department of Justice today has issued a new policy governing the communications of DoJ staffers with the White House in an effort to restore safeguards against political interference. Recall, the Alberto Gonzales-led DoJ tore down the firewalls that existed between the DoJ and the White House, leading to increased politicization at Justice. Michael Mukasey said communications about criminal and civil investigations “must be limited.” Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) issued the following statement:

“Today’s new policy is a clear, unmistakable and welcome repudiation of the Gonzales era, and this change takes a significant step towards restoring Americans’ confidence in the integrity of our justice system,” Whitehouse said. “I’m encouraged that Attorney General Mukasey has honored his commitment to begin restoring the firewall against White House politicization at the Department.”

Mark will be replacing Mikie soon. Mikie knows he
has to get approval from his boss Dick Cheney.
This is just a front as if Mike had the back bone to
go against the man who give him the job. Now
Mark the snake will make sure he pushes Mikie out
of the top job. That’s what the GOP is all about
back stabbing and lying to move up and get the
taxpayers money given by the White House. Go
Mark make your move and show Mikie what a
    young Republican Criminal can do.

y - it limits the interference to just the interference of neocon apparatchiks. no other interference will be tolerated.

Christopher Dodd’s policy of standing up for his principles, for the American people and for the Constitution, has been a major step in restoring the principles that this country was founded on.

Chris Dodd acted while other candidates just talked. He is a true leader and that is what we need right now.

So far, Mucousy has done a heckuva job filling gonzo’s shoes. Only 12 months of responsiblity-aversion to go, Mike - u can do it!!

hell hath frozen over… a Bush-appointed human being even claiming to respect the law?? I feel like I’ve entered bizarro world.

  12. Roket Says:

Gonzo allowed 40 Justice Department officials and 400 White House officials to communicate. So what is Mukluks ratio? 20 to 200? 10 to 100? Only the shadow (government) knows.

IF YOU BELIEVE Mukasey THEN I HAVE A BRIDGE TO SELL YOU… CHEAP!

Mukasey and the neo-cons have just learned to lie better. they realized their blatant arrogance got some of them fired.

Don’t forget to wipe yer feet on that Constitution-door mat. Hate to track the place up, huh?

  15. Buckie Boy Says:

Uh, this is a guy that Bush wanted, and that means it is best to assume that he is lying and covering up Bush’s butt about it. Just because they put out a new policy report, it does not mean that they really mean to enforce it.
Remember this is a Bushie we are talking about, and from past experience this means you just can’t trust him.

As you have heard by now the DOJ has silenced Bernie Ward, radio liberal talk show host on KGO. KGO is not allowing any conversation on this matter, but there is conversation HERE and a good petition to sign.

Utterances are meaningless,.. actions mean everything. With this gang of flagrant dishonesty,.. don’t hold your breath. cheney, bu$h, and rove built this political machine for one thing - it is a good old boy network were they squander and pilfer government taxpayer resources to massage the wallets of their rich buddies and fascist friends. Self enrichment is everything - rules, laws, and regulations are laughed and scoffed at.

Now it’ll only be top down and not random access.

  21. 13martyrs Says:

Words, words, words. If Mukasey is his own man, well, maybe. But Bush doesn’t put independent thinkers in key positions. Even if Mukasey is sincere, there are others with more power who will do what they will with the DoJ.
