Even if they do it very nicely and I understand that taxes are the price we pay for government services, I'll never really like having my money taken. But FEMA is there to give me assistance when I need it. They are the knights in white armor charging into a disaster area to save me. How could they ever get a low opinion rating ? (for the thick headed - no need to explain it to me). The funny thing to me is that I can understand why the IRS will necessarily always hold a low approval rating – their job is to collect money from me. Even if they do it very nicely and I understand that taxes are the price we pay for government services, I’ll never really like having my money taken.

One hundred million to one than Richard the Shoe bomber would have been successful in any small way. But we will pay forever in the name of security. Pablum is all that it is. A walk-through screening of the the x-ray is sufficient. Let's modernize the security process and get rid of those extra government (im)positions. Since modern Repubs don't really believe in civil government, they tend to make appointments strictly on the basis of patronage with less concern for the job itself. That's how you get a guy like Brownie or Bernie Kerik. Democrats generally believe in civil government and take it more seriously so they tend to think more in terms of the job itself. FEMA worked a lot better under an expert's management and now Witt travels around the world giving seminars in disaster management.
