Even though Stephen Colbert’s White House bid has ended, newspaper editors and broadcast producers have voted the comedian AP Celebrity of the Year because he had the “biggest impact on pop culture in 2007.” Author J.K. Rowling came in second, and Al Gore came in third. Colbert’s reaction to the honor:
In receiving this award, I am pleased that I was chosen over two great spinners of fantasy — J.K. Rowling and Al Gore. It is truly an honor to be named the Associated Press’ Celebrity of the Year. Best of all, this makes me the official front-runner for next year’s Drug-Fueled Downward Spiral of the year. P.S. Look for my baby bump this spring!

December 21st, 2007 at 10:00 amHi-larious. Who needs writers, right?
December 21st, 2007 at 10:01 am#2 - exactly. even though stewart and colbert are slated to be back on Jan. 7th, they dont need writers. the dumbflucks in the bush administration are job security for them….
i dont think writers could write what bushco does.
December 21st, 2007 at 10:03 amColbert’s wit and humor is unequaled.
I will count the days until his show returns.
I agree with #3, fan of man, Bush&Co provides so much fodder for Colbert and Stewart that they have an endless stream of fresh material.
December 21st, 2007 at 10:12 amI think that should be ARE unequaled. :)
December 21st, 2007 at 10:12 amNow AP chooses Colbert as celeb of the year? What a difference a year makes! Remember, back when it happened, the AP could hardly bring themselves to mention Colbert’s greatest moment–the 2006 white house correspondents’ dinner skewering of the President. The moment that put Colbert on the map for much of America was roundly ignored by the media.
December 21st, 2007 at 10:13 amI was a bit put-off by his comments about Gore. There is no fantasy involved in man-made GW, I know this because Al refuses to be a hypocrite by always flying coach.

You are just an idiot. Your attempts at humor, if that’s what that was, are pathetic.

Conservatives have no sense of humor. This is why the Fox news parody show failed.
And by that I mean the comedy show they tried to make. Not the entire network, which is in and of itself a news parody network. Just clarifying is all.
December 21st, 2007 at 10:18 amUh oh, the trolls are going howl about this one. Their idea of celebrity of the year is Trannie Coulter or Rush Limpdick.
Ok trolls, what kind of cheese do you want with your whine?
December 21st, 2007 at 10:20 amColbert is one of the sharpest acts out there. My favorite was when he asked Howard Dean if he was going to run for President again, or if he felt he could do more damage as head of the DNC.
As for global warming, now that we passed new CAFE standards, there is no global warming.

That is such a dumb statement. Why do you hate science and enlightened thinking, do you enjoy wallowing in your ignorance?
December 21st, 2007 at 10:26 amIt must be fixed. Petraeus should have won! The same goes for the Oscars, Emmys, Miss Universe, Olympic Skeleton competition and every other contest.
December 21st, 2007 at 10:28 am12, 13 Jason knows that was a stupid statement, which is why he made it. It was moronic by design. A guaranteed thread derailer.

He’s not breaking the strike. The hosts of these shows, both WGA members, would not have decided to go back into production wthout consulting the writers on whom they depend. While we’re glad that Colbert and Stewart are resuming production of their shows, we still support the striking writers and hope Viacom and the other corporations pay them what they deserve.
December 21st, 2007 at 10:36 amfrank m regrets the days the slaves were freed, women were given the vote, and children weren’t required to work for a dime a day. frank m misses the good old days. frank m hates America.

Frank just proved to us that he hates Americans.
December 21st, 2007 at 10:42 amIs Colbert bringing in non-Union writers? No. Is he bringing in any writers? No. Will his show be as good? They openly admit, no–they need their writers to be consistently tops. Will all of his writers still have their jobs when the strike ends? Yes. Why are they going back on the air? To make sure the paychecks continue for the rest of their staff while the strike continues. Not really my definition of “scab”, but hey–that’s just me.
December 21st, 2007 at 10:43 amBy imitating a far, far reich-winger, Colbert proves that all it takes to be a reich-wing is blind devotion, talking points, and radical extremism.
December 21st, 2007 at 10:44 amrightwingers exist to maintain the white man’s place of letting everyone else do the work, while they reap the riches. it’s really no wonder they’ve worked themselves into such insane frothings as we are seeing today; they can feel that their time is over, and that the world can clearly see through their lazy, immoral attempts to destroy civilization. look at gg justifying the brokers’ theft of funds to reward themselves for failing, that’s a perfect example. wingnut welfare, soon to end, and they can’t stand it.
December 21st, 2007 at 10:49 amColber, the scab who is crossing the picket line to do hiw own writing — a job previously done by the writers? Don’t Democrats support unions anymore?
Comment by good_golly — December 21, 2007 @ 10:47 am

It appears you hit the nail on the head Chris L, the sycophants have their talking points memo. Silly pissants can’t even think for themselves. But then again, that’s part and parcel of the troll psyche and the need for a strong authority figure to tell them what to think and say.

captain chuck can occasionally think for himself. one time he wrote, “excuse me, i have to scratch my balls.” i’m pretty sure he thought of that one all by himself.
December 21st, 2007 at 11:21 amAnd so polite too, excuse me is something you just don’t hear enough of.
December 21st, 2007 at 11:26 amBartlebee, good morning. FYI, Colbert and Stewart are going back to new shows Jan 7.
Still better than reruns as there is a lot of material being handed to them on a platter. No writers necessary. LOL
Has anyone followed this writer’s strike? Seems to me that more and more web content is being viewed. Just yesterday I bought a TiVo and there are loads of programs that can be viewed on TiVo through the web. The corporations don’t want to pay the writers more even though their revenue is increased by web viewing. Seems like the writers have a right to portions of this revenue.

December 21st, 2007 at 11:41 amHe has more class in those 2 thumbs than the entire GOP.
I think I’ll watch his Press Club Dinner appearance again, just to see him mocking the cheerleader prince face-to-face one more time.
December 21st, 2007 at 12:53 pmReading through these remarks, I’m very happy to see conservatives finally coming around to support unions. Thanks guys! The more people support unions, the better off our middle class will be. Happy solstice!
December 21st, 2007 at 1:29 pmBart: “Colberts in reruns lamebrain.”
Colbert and Stewart announced yesterday that they will resume shows during January writing for themselves, which is technically not breaking a strike as they will not be employing writers to work for them. And, they have both acknowledged that their shows will not be up to usual standards because they won’t be able to use the striking writers. Letterman is working out a separate independent deal with writers while Leno is actually going to hire scabs to get up and running.
December 21st, 2007 at 1:42 pm“jas and frankie are progressive liberals. they’re always here, right? they just act stupid to help us prove our points. they do a wonderful job.”
Eh, I don’t know. It’d be more instructive to have substantive arguments with intelligent conservatives ;^). Making fun of them is … fun, but it’s way too easy.
