I have to agree with Mr. Nunsworth of post #25. At the end of the day, it's up to the company on how one can use their equipment. This really is a non issue.

Mr. Ben Dover of post #8, the mindset that unions have somehow outlived their function is akin to saying that police protection is no longer needed in an area that crime rate has dropped. Realistically, with the near demise of company pensions, less health insurance, skilled tradesman making near 1980's wages-while Walmart is setting a standard of about $7 an hour, and a welcome mat for cheap labor at our boarders while our corporate folks are taking home the bulk of the profits, I beg to differ.

unemployment is down? How do you know? You only know what you are told.

Once a persons unemployment benefits are up after 26 weeks, the government counts them as working, regardless if they are or not.

I am a vice president of our local and on our negotiating team. Obviously I am very pro-union. While I clearly recognize how this (and other) administrations have worked to undermine the union movement, I believe this is a poor issue to use as further evidence of the anti-union effort. Why should any employee provide company resources to the union? How did unions communicate with members before email? It strikes me as a bit stupid for a company to actively work to piss off members of potential members by denying the use of email, denying unions the use of a vacant conference room during off hours, etc, but to hail this as some sort of landmark, anti-union action when it isn't such a big deal could be counter-productive to strengthening union rights to organize in general.

<strong>Fourteen Defining Characteristics of Fascism

#10. Power of labor suppressed or eliminated.</strong>

Since organized labor was seen as the one power center that could challenge the political hegemony of the ruling elite and its corporate allies, it was inevitably crushed or made powerless. The poor formed an underclass, viewed with suspicion or outright contempt. Under some regimes, being poor was considered akin to a vice.

organized labor is the one thing Righty fears most, and the one and only chance the people of this country have to put their concerns on equal footing with those of the Havemores, who use righty as a guard dog to keep people down.

support organized labor, or kiss the whole "american dream thing" goodbye.

unions should have started their own email accounts long ago. It would improve member identification with the union, prevent companies from inspecting union emails (which they have a right to do if they're providing the infrastructure), and would prevent the current nonsense facilitated by the bush administration.

So Ben Dover, I bet you are all for free market rule. So tell me what you think about an HMO who denied a teenager a liver transplant because some bean counter decided that it was too expensive? Did you know that she died because of this decision. That's what our free market system of capitalism creates. And that's why we need single payer universal health care. Health care should be a right and not a privilege. There is no reason why anyone should die in this country because they don't have health insurance.

<em>I think they are an ancient artifact of a bygone era akin to farm subsidies for farmers and keeping the Rural Electrification Administration function in the age of the Internet.
Comment by Ben Dover</em>

Oh really, then why have workers rights, pay and benefits eroded significantly ever since Ronnie Ray Gun started his union busting?

I'm betting that you have a cushy white collar job that you feel very secure in. Hopefully it requires some sort of knowledge that can't be gained in India because if it doesn't, you may just be out of a job at the rate we are going. And you may end up in having to take one of those formerly union jobs that now have crappy benefits, pay and workers rights.

So it's ok to steal company resources as long as it fits your agenda.

Do you have the right to use company stationary at will?

Typical "progressive" justification.

<em>This should end up in the Court system. And even though it’s got it’s fair share of knuckle-draggers, the courts will likely overturn this absurd ruling.</em>

I'd like to believe that, if this got all the way to the SCOTUS, it would be rejected. However, after the SCOTUS ruled in favor of eminent domain, and Chimpy McDumbass put both Roberts & Alito on the court. I fear the it would rule in favor of such lunacy.

Unions had a place and function in the days when Upton Sinclair wrote "The Jungle" but I think we have moved a tad beyond that don't you? I dont belong to a union and would not work where it was a requirement. I think they are an ancient artifact of a bygone era akin to farm subsidies for farmers and keeping the Rural Electrification Administration function in the age of the Internet.
