Bush gives CNN the Helen Thomas treatment.

In the last month, CNN’s Ed Henry has aggressively questioned Press Secretary Dana Perino about the White House’s deceptive statements about Iranian intelligence and its evasiveness about its role in destroying the torture tapes. Fishbowl DC reports that at his year-end press conference last Thursday, Bush did not call on CNN, “making CNN’s Ed Henry and Helen Thomas (who almost never gets called on by Bush) the only two front-row journos not to be called on.”

The bigger question is, why isn’t the rest of the media asking this administration why they repeatedly lied about Iran’s nuclear program? Why were they warning us of mushroom clouds over US cities when they were clearly told Iran had halted it’s nuke weapon program back in 2003?

Bush lied us into one war, then tried to lie us into another, but most of the media is too scared of being called “liberal” to actually ask them about it.

That’s why this administration gets away with crime after crime against the American people.

Bush is afraid of tough questions. The guy can barely answer the softballs that are so often lobbed his way. He looked like a deer in the headlights the other day when asked when he knew about the NIE on Iran. The laughable answer that he had just heard of it – when every other member of his administration had already been briefed….what a joke.

You could see in his darting eyes and furtive looks that he was trying to remember the exact lie they told him to say.

  10. missmolly says:

It’s fairly well known that Bush won’t ever call on anyone who won’t gently lob him a nice puffy softball question (and those who manage to gush while doing so get even more preferential treatment).

What amazes me is that Bush doesn’t even care how obvious it looks. Why doesn’t he just go all the way and have his own staffers ask questions in staged “press conferences” a la FEMA?

Glenn Beck is gonna be surprised to discover that he’s a henchman of the DNC…

Seriously, do you really think that asking Bush or Barbie Peroxide tough questions makes one a henchman of the DNC? As I recall, CNN reporters asked some tough questions of Bill Clinton, too — for pretty much the same reasons. When you dance around the truth, give replies as vague as possible, and play with semantics, you can expect a few journalists to try to get your position nailed down.

  15. RUCerious says:

This is just another indicator of the level of cowardice displayed by this faux dictator. Ed and Helen are SCARY!

  16. gummitch says:

Wingnuts like Hendler fail to realize that the press is supposed to ask tough questions of people in power. That’s what they do (or are supposed to do) and it’s why we give them some extraordinary latitude in holding secrets. The wingnuts only want a supine press, that never pushes for tough answers. Unless, of course, the questionee happens to be a Democrat or a liberal and even then what they really want are bogus, irrelevant questions intended to make the person look sinister.

First of all, check your facts before you make yourself look even more retarded. Helen Thomas has been with UPI, not CNN, for 57 years. She’s old school press and this country would do far better with a room filled with reporters of her integrity.

Your analysis of what questions she asks are absurd. If your president can’t answer real questions, he should get back to clearing brush.

When he steps in front of those microphones and cameras, Bush isn’t a little crybaby “individual” he’s supposed to be the President of the United States and not some crybaby, afraid of an old woman.

With the FISA bill still looming in the Senate, and a new war funding bill passed with no structure in place to Bring our Troops Home, we have to show the leaders of the House and Senate that this is still our country.

Please read the petition to replace Pelosi with a Democratic Representative who will bring impeachment proceedings to the floor. A Question of Privilege under House Rules IX can declare the Speaker seat vacant.

Incorrect. A declassified summary said that.

The actual NIE – which had been seriously distorted in any event by the efforts of Cheney’s Office of Special Plans – actually had serious caveats on all the claims of Iraqi WMD, and caveats on the sources, and caveats on the conclusions. The caveats, naturally, were excised in the run-up to war.

  58. PeterW says:

    Oh, and:
Why do you have so much confidence in the most recent NIE concerning Iran?

    Comment by Billy Hill — December 24, 2007 @ 2:50 pm

    My, my. Where to start.

The story you linked clearly said, as anyone who pays attention knows well, that Bushco and the Iranians don’t have “normalized” relations. To the best of my knowledge they have never discussed Iran’s “nukular” ambitions.

I haven’t subscribed to cable in nearly ten years. I can’t force myself to watch that much T.V. and can’t justify the expense. So, MSNBC isn’t one of my sources.

As someone who chooses not to hear anything negative about Buhco, I’m not sure you’re in any position to judge what others “pick and choose”. I would prefer not to hear/read bad news about my country, however, that’s not an option when there is so much bad to report.

Finally, though it may be hard to believe, I have no longstanding loyalty to any party. My leanings are “old conservative”; not to be confused with the reckless radicals, known as neocons, who have seized the GOP. I vote for, or against, individuals based on their stands on issues which are important to me. Occasionally I consider the company they keep.

That’s why I will vote against anyone with any connection to Bushco. The first time I saw the Chimps shifting, beady, little eyes; I thought RAT! Sadly, he’s proven far worse than my worst nightmares.

I will continue to speak, and vote, against the neocon scum until one, or the other, ceases to exist.
