Next week, the New England Patriots will attempt to complete a perfect season, potentially becoming the first team in 35 years to finish a regular season undefeated. But the Patriots’ game against the New York Giants is scheduled to be broadcast on the NFL Network, a premium sports channel unavailable to a majority of households. Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) is intervening, asking NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to move next week’s game to NBC — and is threatening to hold Senate hearings if he does not.
Well, as long as he’s doing something important…
December 24th, 2007 at 3:32 pmYeah, well the majority of households can go cry boo hoo into their Christmas gruel.
I suppose Kerry wants the tickets to the game to be free as well.
What a waste of time and energy by a person who has turned out to be a waste of time and energy.
December 24th, 2007 at 3:37 pmWhile there are legitimate anti-trust issues here, dontcha think there are more important targets, Senator?
December 24th, 2007 at 3:37 pmDon’t tase me bro!
December 24th, 2007 at 3:45 pmThere are probably more important things to do. But believe me when I tell you that this is important to die-hard Pats fans. We have followed the team through this entire potentially unsurpased season. And then to be forced to purchase a package to see the conclusion is tantamount to blackmail. Come on. It’s not telecom amnesty, but for some of us New Englanders it’s kinda important.
December 24th, 2007 at 3:50 pmFrankly, this NFL cable thing has been p-ing me off. It is big business arrogance, once again trying to squeeze every penny out of the middle and lower range wage earners.
December 24th, 2007 at 3:53 pmCan he/WE also fight for our Constitution?
December 24th, 2007 at 3:56 pmI don’t see a conflict of interest there. I fight for it every day of my life.
December 24th, 2007 at 3:58 pmThis is why he is not president………nuff said.
December 24th, 2007 at 4:01 pmFinally, Congress will try and do something that has a direct and immediate impact on some small part of many people’s lives. Congress hasn’t done squat anyway so they might as well threaten the NFL with removing their antitrust exemption and improving their languishing approval ratings, all in one fell swoop.
Mock Kerry all you want, but this is fighting for the small guy and giving the public what they want.
December 24th, 2007 at 4:21 pmi’m all for it. the nfl gets a ton of tax breaks and anti-trust law exemptions. time to give back something in return.
December 24th, 2007 at 4:28 pmI can see this year as the last one I will be able to view NFL football for free.
December 24th, 2007 at 4:31 pmKerry represents his state. As much as many of you would like to deny it, this is important to the voters in his state. Kerry is also a Democrat who is always ready to raise questions about monopoly. Taxpayers fund many of these professional stadiums and, by extension, the teams that play. Taxpayers are entitled to get some public benefit from the public money.
December 24th, 2007 at 4:32 pmSo football, a game, take priority over making sure the Law and Constitution is adhered to by the Bush Administration and getting us out of Iraq?
Damn, I am glad we have our priorities straight. =P
December 24th, 2007 at 5:47 pmSo, we can have Senate hearings on whether or not the NFL is free to contract with broadcast companies who cater to those willing to pay the price for watching football, but we cannot have hearings on IMPEACHMENT.
Nice to know what is really important to the Democrats in the Senate these days.
December 24th, 2007 at 5:51 pmWell at least it wasn’t that dreadfully awful baseball I’ll be missing
December 24th, 2007 at 5:53 pmWhere was he during the wiping of the prez’s azz with the constitution?
December 24th, 2007 at 5:59 pmObfuscation politics.
December 24th, 2007 at 6:05 pmlook over here football!
But over here lay what?
December 24th, 2007 at 6:11 pmIs he intervening in the Skull vs Bones game?
December 24th, 2007 at 6:37 pmPhony communist = reality capitalist?
December 24th, 2007 at 6:43 pmI think I’ll just take the advise about women’s skirts. Isn’t there another site that needs your wisdom?
The NFL what a bunch of aholes. Think of all the kids and people who have been following the Pats and now can’t see the game. Maybe it serves us right. Maybe we should get a life http://www.myLeftspace.com
Go skiing
December 24th, 2007 at 6:54 pmThis is ridiculous! Whether or not the game is broadcast on a pay channel or not is not somthing that is covered in enforcement of our constitution. Kerry has MORE important things to do, as does the rest of congress. NFL is entertainment, and is profit driven. It is NOT guarenteed you will watch it on tv for free.
Get a grip folks.
December 24th, 2007 at 7:06 pmComment by dan1948 — December 24, 2007 @ 6:54 pm
I worked in Alabama and a few other states Dan that did not follow the NFL but college games. If I were to change the channel from college to NfL, woe was me.
Anyway, I think its probably better to let kids watch college games because college players got heart, not so much money.
December 24th, 2007 at 7:13 pmIf he would have fought as much as he’s fighting for the Patriots, perhaps this criminal administration would not be in the White House today…
December 24th, 2007 at 9:19 pmOkay, this one is ridiculous.
December 24th, 2007 at 10:29 pmAt least I agree with half of what you said!
Comment by John Kerry — December 24, 2007 @ 9:44 pm
you haven’t caught on yet that nobody cares what you think, especially kerry?
December 24th, 2007 at 11:09 pmKerry, yee of little sway. Rather be ‘everybody’s the man in their own hood, for real’
December 25th, 2007 at 12:53 amUh, Johnny boy, there’s a war to be stopped, and lots of more important damned stuff going on for you to worry about the televising of a football game.
December 25th, 2007 at 5:56 amhow quickly the readers and commenters on this site forget that kerry was one of the ten democrats to actually stand up for americans by supporting dodd’s filibuster on immunity for the telecomm companies. so you attack him. nicely done. you gotta love this “if you dont spend 100% of your energy attacking bush then you aren’t doing anything” attitude that you all seem to have. very progressive. and for those of you that don’t seem to know, football and the new england patriots are pretty important to the people who voted kerry in. its a smart move on his part and anyone that cant see it should get their head out of their ass.
December 25th, 2007 at 7:55 amWho’s going to swift-boat the dude?
December 25th, 2007 at 10:45 amGee-maybe this “important” issue is just what Kerry needed to launch him into another presidential campaign. Can just envision his campaign slogan now: “Well, I was for the NFL Network before I was against it”.
December 25th, 2007 at 7:56 pm“There are probably more important things to do. But believe me when I tell you that this is important to die-hard Pats fans.”
All four of them? Or are you including the bandwagon jumpers? :)
December 25th, 2007 at 9:43 pmWhere was Kerry when the Cowboys and Packers were playing?
December 25th, 2007 at 9:52 pmhey, if the republican losers can have a vote on a resolution to condemn a newspaper ad…John Kerry can stop moneymakers from blackmailing football fans.

Very good point. But in New England right now Pat’s are king. And what they are doing right now is sport historical regardless of amature or professional. The Boston area never had teams like U of Alabama or Auburn so it’s been a pro town for the most part. Boston College would have been big news if it wasn’t for the Pats

December 26th, 2007 at 10:13 amFootball sucks major league. 3 or 4 hours of show for a quarter hour of action. Keep it on cable and maybe sheeple will find something more interesting to do, like sleeping, or watching snow fall or melt.
December 26th, 2007 at 11:11 amAnd you are still wondering why Dubya got reelected ??
December 26th, 2007 at 1:54 pmsorry, I disagree with the majority of you. I think Sen Kerry should help people out whenever possible. Who are you to decide what is correct? While the majority of you think his looking into this football issue is a waste of time, I appreciate his efforts on our behalf. Whether you like it or not, approve or not, it is an act of kindness and I will take that anyday. I feel as strongly as any of you about that moron in the White House. there is so much anger, hatred and mistrust in our everyday lives. Please just let the Kerry thing blow over and get on with what we need to do. Elect a Democrat and put Bush Cheney on trial for their crimes against humanity. That is the real issue. Thanks for letting me have my say.

Spoken like a true New Englander.
Off topic….As a Veteran I could never understand this..We all realize Bush and Chaney are total cowards yet their supporters attack Sen. Kerry who proudly served his country. What kind of weirdness is that
December 27th, 2007 at 7:47 amWell looks like the NFL was taking note of our blog here :) They backed off!
December 27th, 2007 at 12:14 pmWouldn’t it have been nice if Kerry had fought this hard to challenge the numerous irregularities in the 2004 vote in Ohio? In the statistically most accurate poll, the exit poll, somehow Bush went from loosing by a couple of points to winning by 4 or 5 – a statistical impossibility.
And what was Kerry’s response?
(insert sound of chirping crickets)
What’s most upsetting is that we now know from the prelimenary investigations into the politicization of the Justice Department – and other examples such as the stolen election in Alabama that replaced a Democratic governor – that there has been a well-organized campaign to subvert the very foundation of our system by using a variety of methods to steal elections for the ReTHUG li CONS and very little has been done about it.
Kerry’s lack of agressiveness in the face of this campaign is a sad footnote in an otherwise outstanding career.
December 27th, 2007 at 4:26 pmRepugs know that they can’t win an honest election
Remember papa Bush when he was told Dukakis was gaining on him? He made the pledge
“Read my lips, No New Taxes”
Fraud didn’t start with baby Bush and the Neo Cons
