Lieberman’s version of oversight.

By Satyam Khanna on Dec 28th, 2007 at 11:59 am

Lieberman’s version of oversight.

According to Mother Jones, the Senate Committee on Homeland Security, chaired by Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT), has conducted zero “proactive investigations into Bush administration malfeasance” this year. The Committee is known as “the Senate’s version of Rep. Henry Waxman’s (D-CA) Oversight Committee in the House.”

And how does this make him any different from other U.S. policymakers since 1967? We shouldn’t single out Lieberman for continuing what generations of AIPAC darlings have been doing for decades. If we want change on U.S./Israel policy, we need to look at the big picture.

Lieberman is very busy trying to make sure the US bombs Iran and Syria for Israel. That’s the job he has to do, nothing else matters. Just let the US soldiers die so that Israel can get Middle East land for themselves. If Lieberman could pull it off he’d have the United States bomb the Palestinians off their land.

  30. delafield says:

What’s the difference between Lieberman’s rheotric and Hitler’s rhetoric? Both of them have demonized people who’ve been driven from their homes and forced to live in concentration camps. Hitler did it to the Jews and Lieberman does it to Palestinians.

Well since you rethugs have turned the country over to fascism it seems like all the guilty parties claim executive privilege and refuse to testify or if they do can’t remember an effing thing. Of course they don’t bother to hold trials for all the terrorists they are holding. In the old days before we became a fascist state they would have been “alleged terrorists” but Bushco knows a terrorist when it illegally seizes one and so no trials are needed. Just waterboarding and other kinds of abuse that are no longer considered torture.

I agree with you. And I would like to enfasize here that When I express anger twards the USA, does not mean that my feelings for its people are the same. You mention Apathy. I beleive one of the intentions of the 9/11 home made show was to acheive precisely that. And let me tell you that the World community feels the same, that is, We hate the USA’s foringner policies (they are dated) and we feel great simpathy and sorrow that you have to endure this transition from a DEMOCRATIC STATE to a FACIST ONE. Sort of defeats the purpose of arguing about who has more censorship on “their” blogs, doesn’t it?

Anyhow, let’s get back to the idea of unconstitutionally impeaching Lieberman because he supports Israel, or because he supports the Iraq war, or because of whatever.

Thankfully you cleared that up and reposted your capitalized rant once again for further enjoyment.

Are they still Nazi boots or did you mean to refer to them as “boots worn by a Nazi”?

    YES.

Actually that particular line was started by delafield who insisted that jdc and Lieberman were flying around the world in their Nazi uniforms and murdering people.

I just decided to tag along for a while, if for no other reason than to experience the netherworld that American democrats call home.

Is the topic of this thread impeaching Lieberman, no it is not. You are off topic. I know it’s difficult but try to focus on the lack of oversight coming from Lieberman’s committee.

  86. Lobishomen says:

We cleared that up too. I guess you were self absorbed again at that time.

Actually I am always self-absorbed and if you could see my good looks, you would know why.

But delafield isn’t here any more is he. You should try staying on topic or get the hell out of here.

Too bad you can’t fix stupid. Looks are definitely not everything.

Sorry about that, it was hard to focus on the topic when the first few posts spent their time referring to Joe as Lieberchimp, bastard, a tool and Lieberman (I-Israel).

Don’t worry so much about your looks or stupidity, it’s the inner person that counts!

  91. Lobishomen says:

So you start talking about a Nazi uniform? And that helps the debate?
    Comment by justasking — December 28, 2007 @ 2:58 pm

You must admit that the thread didn’t start well when the very first post referred to Lieberman as a tool or Lieberchimp. I figure if you guys are unwilling to police your own that you wouldn’t have much call to attack others.

Redstate is private the way that TP is private. Do you see TP kicking you out of here after your first inane post? They won’t kick you out of here until you stink up the place to the point where everyone flags you and makes you go away. BTW, Jason, you can change your name but you can’t change your soul.

Why is this SO familiar. I seem to remember a Mr. President a while back blathering something similar to this…

Welcome to THink Progress, Lobishomen. Too bad you had to go all trollish on what appears to be one of your first threads. Well, if you act like Mr. President, don’t be surprised if you get treated like Mr. President.

    Some points:

    1) We refer to Lieberman by various putdowns on his name because we do honestly believe that he lies (LIEberman), supports Dubya who himself looks like a chimpanzee (Lieberchimp), and seems like he supports Israel more than the US (I-Israel). The democratic voters did not support him in his primary, but he was an attractive candidate for non-Democrats who supported him in his bid against the winner of the Democratic primary, Lamont. It’s not a far toss to make to assume that Conservatives had something to do with this as he does manage to divide the Democrats’ house.

    2) If true, the assertion that his department has had no oversight over the President just confirms Democrat’s views that he’s pro-Bush. That’s the heart of this article. I agree — Lieberman may have been a liberal at one time, but something has happened in the last 7 years.

Maybe he’s been compromised by a Republican intel op like the one that Nixon pulled back before I was born.

Maybe they’ve got something on him, something damning.

Or just possibly he’s gotten hard, cynical, and Conservative in his old age, and he really should be a Republican.

Caucusing with the Democrats? He’s got something they want (his vote) and they’ve got something he wants (power for whichever purpose). They tell him to take a hike, he jumps aisles, and with Cheney’s vote, the R’s call the shots in the Senate.

I do believe Lieberman is a slightly Right-Of-Center Democrat today, with how he’s been voting lockstep with the Republicans. The Democratic Party has many such members. Unless and until the Dems get more votes, though, he’s a necessary evil, but just because he’s necessary does not give him a pass.

Sorry, trolls. The Democrats only have to tolerate him, not like him, and don’t be too surprised if he doesn’t join the Republicans in 2008 if the Democrats get their majority and tell him to piss off.

Jews, the Church, and the History of the World

    In this series, I will explain why Jews and Catholics have had such a rocky history and why Jews and traditional Catholics still have difficulties with each other (as groups) today. Most people who’ve been educated in American public schools, who’ve have had a steady diet of Hollywood, PBS, NPR, and the like, or who have received an education at the typical university, will end up with at least the “sense” of the following equations: Catholics=bad, Jews=good;

Catholics=persecuters, Jews=persecuted. They will end up acquiring a blend of very Anglo-centric, Protestant, secular, Jewish, and Marxist views of such things as the Spanish Inquisition, the Crusades, the role of Pope Pius XII in WWII, etc. — views “supported” by wildly exaggerated statistics, omitting context, ignoring the Catholic view of these incidents, out and out blatant falsifications, and by simply not having a clear understanding of political theory (along with, in the case of members of Protestant sects, not having a clear understanding of orthodox Christian teaching).

Ignorance of the true nature of “Jewish-Catholic relations” goes deep. Very deep. Writing about it will involve revisiting over 2,000 years of history, taking what we think we know and turning 90% of it 45o right-side up. Just have an open mind and conduct your own research into the things I write about.
