Could be that, since the Lord is on his side, he and his supporters need not be concerned with petty little things like the law.

Now, this is Huckabee before even being the Republican candidate for the highest office. I can only imagine what he would feel entitled too (in terms of impunity) if he ever gets elected as the president of the US.

Then again, it might not be too different from what the current occupier thinks he is entitled to…

By the large numbers of blog comments by Ron Paul supporters, of whom many do not even know Paul’s true views on the issues, I suspect that things will only be getting worse.

“Baseless claims?” That implies that there is a God and that God has not sanctioned his conservative causes. Should be, “dubious claims,” or “ridiculous claims.” But then again, the “devoutly religious” (and in the U.S. this generally means christian evangelicals and/or fundamentalists), are entirely willing to accept — by faith alone — that such a claim can be true of “their” candidate.

But also, think about how language is so inexact. Perhaps Huckleberry Jesus really means (and thinks) that his conservative causes as based on biblical/religous thinking and ideas, not that God literally spoke to him.

I think there was a time, back in the Old Testament, when people were offered a government by the people, and they opted for a king – guess that’s another christianist value.

With the full baggage of the Shrub / Rove / Cheney crowd did he actually say that you dance with them who brung you ??????

A few days ago, he told a rally that if their neighbor was for someone else, make sure their neighbor couldn’t get out of the house on caucas night. Shovel snow in their driveway, etc.

Few days before that he showed the birds he shot with explanations such as “This one was going to caucus for …..” “That one had a Huck button so I let it go”, etc.

Considering the recent few years of dirty tricks, phone jamming (while blaming the dems for phone jamming), etc. Not only do these sound extremely mean spirited (WWJD???) but also like an attempt to incite folks to election fraud.

What is the next speech gonna be: If any of y’all are off your psychiatric medicine, I hope you take your shotgun to the _______ office and ……

Note that Daryll condems gambling. However, it is that great Republican scion of ethics, William J. Bennett, who saw no problems with gambling as long as you were rich enough.

Note that Daryll wants to talk about the loose morals of our current generation of Americans. Why is it that Daryll does not want to talk about that political party which is known for its great number of adulterers, fornicators and pedophiles? You know, the Republican party. The same party that has turned government into a market with a big for sale sign.

Note that Daryll does not want to acknowledge that the states with the greatest problems of poverty, divorce, crime, underage pregnancies and out-of-wedlock births are all very Red, very religious Republican states.

Religion can provide sustenace to many. However, those like Daryll, want to blame all problems on the lack of religious devotion. There are far more likely suspects. There are those who corrupt religion into nothing more than a political campaign weapon. There are those who become so full of themselves and the superiority of THEIR religious beliefs that they forget the hummility and tolerance for which Christianity has and should stand. We have seen too many Evangelical leaders become enamoured with the rewards of selling their faith and their religion for political as well as personal gain.

Is Huckabee guilty of blasphemy?

– A total of 14. OK. From the way you were talking, I assumed it was thousands.

“2. No, are current laws aren’t harsh, we need to incorporate whipping to those who committ misdemeanors. We need to instantly hang or behead those who murder.”
– I believe that whipping (cruel and unusual punishment) and executing people without due process (would you mind if they at least had a TRIAL?) are both unconstitutional. However, if Huckabee truly wants our country to resemble the type of harsh theocracy one finds in the Middle East, he can get the pesky constitution changed with an amendment or two. He only needs the support of both houses of Congress and 38 states.

“3. The devil stole morals and values, which were once instilled into our nation.”
– So THAT’s where our morals and values went! This explains why our leaders lie to the people, start wars based on falsehoods, rob from the poor in order to fatten the rich, steal elections, gather intelligence on political enemies to blackmail them into submission, and consider our constitution to be just a “g*ddamn piece of paper.” Yes, I’d REALLY like to see decent morals and values return to our government — and now I know all I have to do is wrest them from the devil (who must be holding our leaders hostage as well).

“4. This nation needs to be saved.”
– I agree (although this response has absolutely nothing to do with the question I asked, which was how much influence the President has over religious programming on television). It needs to be saved from the type of leadership we have now, which has driven our country into unprecedented debt, earned emnity from the rest of the world, tanked the value of the dollar, and overall set an appalling moral example for successors. It needs to be saved from intolerance, which only polarizes us and rips us apart. It needs to be saved from corporate greed, whose only objective is to rape and pillage as much as possible in the short term for financial gain, with no thought to the future. It needs to be saved from harm to our environment, so we can leave behind a world our children and grandchildren can live in. Yes — the nation does need to be saved. But probably not in the way you envision.
