Esophageal cancer carries a very bad prognosis. May Lantos beat the odds.

So sorry to hear this. Not only will Lantos be missed in Congress, but it’s distressing to hear of the battle he has ahead of him.

Peace and healing for you Mr. Lantos. Your contribution to this nation will not be forgotten.

As on of his consitituents, I feel bad that he has cancer, but I certainly won’t miss him. From Wikipedia:

“By September 2002, Lantos had shown himself to be a supporter of the White House position on the war. On October 4, 2002, Mr. Lantos led a narrow majority of Democrats on the House International Relations Committee to a successful vote in support of the President’s path toward war, seeking the approval of the United Nations, but allowing the President to strike out on his own if necessary. The resolution later passed the House and the Senate with a total of 373 members of Congress supporting it. “The train is now on its way,” said Mr. Lantos after his — and the President’s — victory. In later hearings on the war, Mr. Lantos continued his enthusiastic support. At one point he was confronted by witnesses who questioned the likelihood of enthusiastic Baghdadis welcoming the invading Americans; Mr. Lantos called this a kind of racism, to suggest the Iraqis might be so ungrateful.”

  12. Ditch Mitch KY says:

Best wishes to a courageous man, with thanks for taking on the Bush Crooks.

  13. gharlane says:

As jps@9 points out, Lantos hardly took on the Bush crooks with respect to the war. AFAICT he’s been a cheerleader for a neocon-lite foreign policy wrt the Middle East, siding with Israeli hawks every chance he gets.
