Rudy Floats Dick Cheney For Vice President Again

Rudy Floats Dick Cheney For Vice President Again»

cheneyIn an event in New Hampshire last night, Rudy Giuliani suggested that — if he were to be elected president — he would like to choose someone like Dick Cheney to be his Vice President. The AP reports:

Would a Rudy Giuliani administration be populated with a Cabinet of Republican rivals and a powerful, all-knowing vice president like Dick Cheney? Possibly, according to musings Giuliani shared in answers to questions from New Hampshire voters yesterday in Hooksett.

Giuliani pivoted from a question about potential picks for secretary of state to this: “Let me answer with the question of what you would look for in a vice president first - again without any presumption that I’m going to be the nominee.”

In an answer that mentioned Cheney more than once, Giuliani said, “A vice president has to be a partner in the administration. The vice president has to know everything that’s going on, just in case the vice president has to step in at a moment’s notice,” he said. He added that during a conversation with Cheney on Sept. 11, 2001, he felt the vice president “had a sense that he knew what he was doing.”

This isn’t the first time Giuliani has floated Cheney for Vice President. In a radio interview in November, Giuliani cited Cheney as “a good example of picking someone who is qualified to be president of the United States.” Fortunately, Cheney has indicated he will not serve in a future administration. “I’m going to serve this president for the next four years, and then I’m out of here,” Cheney told Fox News’ Chris Wallace. “This is my last tour.”

Cheney will leave office with a dark “cloud” hanging over him, in the words of former special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald. Over 177,000 individuals have signed an active petition to impeach the Vice President, whose approval ratings hover near 30 percent.

Last year, the Washington Post reported there was a “GOP plan to oust Cheney,” who was “viewed as toxic” by many in his party and had “the potential to drag down” candidates up for election. Instead, the right-wing has openly embraced the Vice President and aggressively pushed him to run for president.

Digg It!

Bushitler’s wannabe successor wants to keep 5-deferment Dickhead Cheney around? Hoooooo boy.

    Some people are real shits.

  2. bilbobaggins Says:

Go for it Rudy. That will kill your campaign quicker than anything. Why would someone want a person with a 17% approval rating on the ticket as his Vice President? Also, what does this say about Rudy. That he is an empty suit and will need a daddy to prop him up as President.

Interesting choice of words from Cheney “This is my last tour”, as someone else pointed out, he of the five deferments.

Here’s hoping that this guy has to spend his ill gotten Halliburton money on legal fees once they pry the lid off of all the criminal activity he’s been up to.

A criminal Presidental candidate endorsing a war criminal, profiteer, and five-deferrment Supreme Leader Dick for VP again. Rudy is refloating his wet dream again.

You damn right Cheney knew what was going on. How about sitting at the console controlling NORAD during 9-11?

  12. missmolly Says:

I’m not reading this as Rudy considering Cheney for his veep, but praising Cheney by saying he wants somebody LIKE him.

Apparently, Cheney’s rather checkered record doesn’t bother him. But this is the guy who continues to stand by Bernie Kerik, too.

Here’s hoping that America is sick of crooks by now.

  13. Severus Says:

Of course Rudy G wold pick dirty Dick as his runnign mate. Rudy G is not that far removed from Bush when you look at his views and his competance.

  14. missmolly Says:

Or maybe Rudy just wants a veep who can pull the strings so he won’t have to actually learn anything about the job — you know, like foreign policy. Who knew that he likes the “president as marionette” role personified by Dubya?

  15. PatrioticLiberalChristian Says:

Someone should tell Rudy that Dick Cheney has his own branch of gubmint. At least that’s what Dick claims.

  22. toasterhead Says:

For some reason, the inflatable pig from Pink Floyd’s Animals album cover popped into my head when I read the phrase “Floats Dick Cheney.”

  23. Doofus Says:

Sorry, TP, but this is dishonest. Your headline screams “Dick Cheney” but the actual quote says “like Dick Cheney”, meaning someone with his temperment.

So he’s not floating DC for VP; he’s simply saying he wants someone of that mold. The title is misleading and dishonest.

  24. Shayne Says:

    Answer: Yes!

Question: Is Rudy as dumb as he looks?

  25. Leftside Annie Says:

25 - no, someone “like” Darth is every single teensy bit as scary as the real thing. So shut up.

  28. Doofus Says:

Please point me to where he says he wants Dick Cheney as his VP and I’ll retract my comment. Otherwise, the title doesn’t match the story. Why the hostility? It’s really just a editing error, that’s all I’m pointing out.

  29. StratRat Says:

Interesting choice of words from Cheney “This is my last tour”, as someone else pointed out, he of the five deferments.

    Comment by OptimisticMF

Exactly! Notice the trasparent attempt at sucking up to the very audience he has sent to die in an illegal invasion. Cheney is a lot like our little cowboy president - they both like to play act. Bush acts like a cowboy (all hat and no cattle), cheney acts like a military man (FIVE DEFERMENTS!)

Both men know nothing of sacrifice and loss - but they talk as though they do.

I am so tired of the current administration “acting” like they know what they are doing. January 2009 cannot come soon enough for me.

Mitt Romney received a deferment from the draft as a Mormon “minister of religion” for the duration of his missionary work in France.

    True!

I merely make the point that for Ghoulie to be tried in the Hague he would need to have been in a position to commit international crimes. As mayor of New York, his crimes would be state or federal but not “crimes against humanity” or “violations of international law”. Assuming we regain a lawful DOJ, we can deal with him internally.

The truth is that Think Progress, along with others, are trying to scare people away from Giuliani …
    Comment by DreamCrusher

Given that Giuliani has been using fear of terror to seek votes that would be only fair.
But I think that disgust and loathing is more my reaction to Rudy.
Rudy violated his vows of marriage, why would he uphold the oath of office? Rudy wanted Kerik in charge of homeland security, why elect someone who turned a blind eye to obvious faults; Rudy used public funds to accomodate his mistress, why elect someone who so misused the public purse; Rudy failed to provide adequate safety for responders after 9/11, failed to address communications problems and obvious faults in the location of security offices before then. Why elect one so oblivious ? Rudy secreted away documents from his tenure as mayor. Why elect someone who felt the need to hide these? Rudy had protesters caged and often arrested. Why elect one who can’t tolerate dissent?
On top of that he doesn’t share the strange Republican voting values that one mustn’t kill the unborn and that one must put religious faith above scientific evidence.
I hope he is nominated because as the public is focuse on his record almost anyone less loathsome will become president. It wouldn’t matter whether he had Cheney or Jesus as his running mate. So if TP is trying to frighten voters it is unnecessary and counterproductive.

  61. judyinnm Says:

Rudy REALLY doesn’t want to be president, if he’s threatening to have Cheney (or someone like him) run as his VP.

It’s beyond me why ANYONE would want to continue living under the constant barrage of fearmongering that our government has been providing for the past 7 years. All my life, this country has been “at war” of one kind or another - “Cold War”, Vietnam War”, “War on Drugs” and now the “Global War on Terror” (and the occupation, called the Iraq War). Each of these wars, and the percieved “threat” causing them have only served as an excuse to erode the rights of WE THE PEOPLE, and increase control by our government over our lives.

Politically, the more a candidate sees our liberties as a threat to our security, the more that person is perceived as “serious”.

It really is time to reverse this trend.

  62. shoeless Says:

Dick- go away kid, you bother me.

  67. The Bear Says:

I think I’m right in assuming that the present Republican administration in Washington somehow got their hands on a copy of 1984 and mistakenly thought it was an instruction manual on how to run things. They probably thought it was a stroke of genius to change Emmanuel Goldstein to Osama Bin Laden (both have six syllables).

The threat of terror is constantly flogged by the administration, and any act of violence, anywhere, is attributed to terrorism. And war is, and will be, constantly with us, even if there is no real enemy. Surveillance is becoming more and more intrusive (although we don’t yet have telescreens). The only thing we haven’t seen so far is the rationing of chocolate, but shortages of various types (especially gasoline) are just around the corner, even if there is an abundance of supply.

  68. Neocon Says:

    Rudy’s smarter than I thought he was…

  69. CybScryb Says:

I’ve been predicting that the candidate who names Cheney as his VP (giving up any real chance at power) will become the eventual nominee. But given the response of Iowa to Dolph, I don’t think that even giving in to the dark side can save his sorry carcass.

  70. therepguy Says:

What world do these fascist republican really live in because it sure isn’t mine!

The current VP would be a raving nut case if he through he could get away with holding his office for yet another term… if the congress didn’t impeach him on day one, he wouldn’t last the week…

    Give us all a break…

Yet another reason to impeach both the president and the vice president before they leave office!

In my mine impeachment was designed to prevent the ills of one administration from corrupting the next administration!

In fact, the republic needs a change in the constitution… that would restrict a son from hold office within the life time of his father… for that any member of a president family!

God we a change and a fresh start… we need freedom from both the bush family tree and from the clinton family tree!

    Enough is enough!
