Poll: Internets now a top election news source.
ABC reports that for “the first time in polls since 1996,” a new ABC News/Facebook survey “finds the Internet rivaling newspapers as one of Americans’ top two sources of news about the presidential election. It’s also the only election news source to show growth, doubling since 2000″:
One reason is the Internet’s advance overall: Seventy-three percent of adults now go online, the most in polls since the dawn of the Internet age. Forty percent use the Internet specifically for news and information about politics and the election, surpassing the previous high, 35 percent in a 2004 survey. [...]
The four in 10 adults who use the Internet for election information are highly attuned to politics; compared with other adults, they’re 22 points more likely to be following the campaign closely, 21 points more apt to plan to vote in an upcoming primary or caucus, 13 points more apt to report having voted 2004 and 10 points more likely to report being registered. That’s engagement.

Neighbors? I’d probably be shot on sight if my conservative neighbors actually knew my political & religious views. (Small town MN.)
Which brings me to, and mentioned above, the need for Net Neutrality. Take a look at who opposes this and make your own conclusions.

People who use the Internet as their source of news, for general news and political news, will always be better informed because their actions are intentional. Whereas most people who don’t use the internet either watch the evening news (60 second sound bites) out of habit and/or read the morning newspaper (60 seconds print sound bites). They really don’t absorb much and they certainly never get in-depth news.

Those damn internets! They’ve begun to totally eclipse the print media. Of course, all they print in the newspapers these days is Bush’s propaganda which has been sanitized and vetted for the main purpose of keeping the truth from the people since Bush believes that we aren’t intelligent enough to understand it or accept it.
I think that the near-obsolete mainstream media outlets will be gone in a few short years. No one is paying any attention to them at this point since they can find relevant, timely news on the internet.

Newt Gingrich’s endless smear and slime attacks on Democrats and President Bill Clinton. In 2000 the corporate media, reconcentrated by the media deregulation act of 1996, acted as cheerleaders for Cheerleader Bush and his puppeteer master Cheney.
Thank Mother Nature for the Internets: a little truth can slip thorough now and then. Now if we can reclaim our democracy in the 2008 elections, maybe we can get the Federal Communications Commission to force corporations that have been enjoying abusing our public airwaves to start broadcasting a little truth instead of broadcasting all corporate propaganda, all the time…

Hate to admit it but Edwards is also more electable in this desperately important election than either a woman or a black whose sympathies for large corporations are well known .
Huckabee talks the talk on reigning in the corporations and will certainly be able to push the ties to large corporate ties into the political dialogue and upon Clinton or Obama.

I have found the coverage on American politics done by The Guardian, The Independent, Der Spiegel, and even the BBC News to be first rate and absent the normal bias/agenda of the American media.
