Before former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee appeared yesterday on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, officials from the Writers Guild of America contacted his staff to “clear up any ‘confusion’” by making “it crystal clear that he was indeed crossing a picket line.” The Machinists (IAM) union, which has endorsed Huckabee, also implored him not to cross the picket line, saying “he risks losing the support his jobs and economic policies have won for him among trade unionists.”

A union has endorsed huck? who owns the union? that is the saddest thing I have ever heard. elect a candidate that will kill your union? brilliant
January 3rd, 2008 at 10:44 amjesus christ, huck said he thought it was cleared!
hell if he cant get the intel on jay leno right, what the fu*k is he gonna do as a president?
huckleberry for president?
yeah right.
January 3rd, 2008 at 10:45 amoldtree,
The Huckster appears to be somewhat of a ‘changeling’, eh?
He can change position faster than Mitt can Flip or Flop.
Huckabee clearly knew he was crossing a picket line, but his need for more TV exposure outweighed any moral considerations.
January 3rd, 2008 at 10:48 amDoes America really want another biblical bozo at the helm?
“huckleberry for president?
yeah right.”

He”ll need a “grown-up” VP, to make sure he doesn’t get pissy and launch a tomahawk strike at Castro.
Someone like Joe Lieberman…
January 3rd, 2008 at 10:50 amHe doesn’t care about unions. None on the Republican give a crap about unions.
January 3rd, 2008 at 10:52 amBarfly, damnit, some people haven’t eaten breakfast yet!
January 3rd, 2008 at 10:52 amMaybe the memos from the WGA and the IAM were buried under Huck’s copy of the NIE on Iran, which was buried under his copy of People Magazine.
January 3rd, 2008 at 10:52 amYou’d never know that Ed Rollins is advising Huckabible. Then again, maybe Rollins has lost it too.
January 3rd, 2008 at 10:58 amFirst it was the log cabin gays. Now unions.
Makes no friggin’ sense. It really is an upside-down, black is white world we live in, folks!
January 3rd, 2008 at 10:59 amA union endorsed Hickabee? Why not just get all its members together and set fire to them?
January 3rd, 2008 at 11:00 amYou’d never know that Ed Rollins is advising Huckabible. Then again, maybe Rollins has lost it too.

I wonder how the “pay black preachers to tell their congregations not to vote” strategy will play out in the caucuses.
January 3rd, 2008 at 11:04 amI guess it doesn’t matter who you are or what your cause your pushing… there’s always gonna be a handful out there that craves self-inflicted pain. A punishment complex of sorts, if you will.

In Iowa? Probably not so good. They’ll likely resort to puncturing tires, dumping water in parking lots to freeze, and cutting power lines to caucus sites.
This whole Iowa thing creeps me out. The candidates have invested millions of dollars and hundreds of hours to lure a few midwestern white guys willing and able to spend the evening playing political games. What any of that has to do with the rest of the damn country is a mystery to me.
Of course, if the results are agreeable to me, I’ll stay mum. I am nothing if not cheap and shallow.
January 3rd, 2008 at 11:12 amPrinciples, schminciples!!
January 3rd, 2008 at 11:15 am“he risks losing the support his jobs and economic policies have won for him among trade unionists.â€

Which will probably win him points with the business crowd. And isn’t this the support that the Republicans really want, anyway? It kind of cancels out his populist, anti-Wall Street rhetoric (but hey — that’s just a show for Iowa farmers, isn’t it?)
January 3rd, 2008 at 11:20 amC’mon no Hillary!
January 3rd, 2008 at 11:25 amC’mon no Obama!
whoops… wrong thread

lol - thanks for the laugh man.
January 3rd, 2008 at 11:44 amI must admit that I’m getting a bit tired of the Huckabee trashing on this site…not that he doesn’t give us plenty to make fun of.
If he wins the GOP nomination then the GOP is even more off the deep end than I thought they were.
January 3rd, 2008 at 11:45 amMaybe jesus told him to cross the picket lines.
January 3rd, 2008 at 11:46 amProbably called him on his cellphone again.
What do you do with a scab? Picket!
January 3rd, 2008 at 11:49 amFirst of all there’s a video which was at the Washington Post where somebody is describing to him that the writers for the Leno show were still on strike and that there would be a picket line.
Second of all, are we to believe that the Writers Guild was unable to send a directive to him that was clear enough that even this simpleton could understand. It’s the freakin’ Writers Guild.
January 3rd, 2008 at 12:18 pmKnowing his MO, I imagine God prolly gave him a ring and said it’s “Ok Mang”
January 3rd, 2008 at 6:23 pmHis claim of ignorance regarding crossing the picket line is as disingenuous as that negative ad he said he would run as he showed it to the press.
January 3rd, 2008 at 7:34 pmWhat a phony.
