Two suicide bombers killed at least 14 people in Baghdad today, “including the leader of a U.S.-backed neighborhood security patrol.” The strikes were “the latest in an apparent stepped-up campaign of suicide bombings that has seen major attacks nearly every day for the past two weeks.”
But…but…but…the surge is working! Isn’t it? How can violence be down if suicide bombings have been “stepped up”?
January 7th, 2008 at 3:42 pmThis is clearly a sign that the terrorists are desperate.

January 7th, 2008 at 3:45 pmClear (of thought) Conservative. How about I just blame you.
January 7th, 2008 at 3:46 pmWow, McCain is so right. Our troops absolutely need another 10,000 years of exposure to this delightful wonderland in the Middle East.
January 7th, 2008 at 3:46 pmLooks like our “friends and allies” are getting restless again:

But don’t worry, as our Dear Leader stated the other day, “I can predict that the historians will say that George W. Bush recognized the threats of the 21st century, clearly defined them.”

January 7th, 2008 at 3:50 pmI thought that the surge was working.
Oh well, back to the drawing board.
January 7th, 2008 at 3:51 pmThey are clearly in the last throes, if you will, of their insurgency.
January 7th, 2008 at 3:52 pmOnce the insurgency ends, then comes the revolution
January 7th, 2008 at 3:55 pmThinkProgress engaged in some rather….well, let’s just say “creative” editing in that quote from Reuters article in The Washington Post.
The full quote is:
“The strikes were the latest in an apparent stepped-up campaign of suicide bombings that has seen major attacks nearly every day for the past two weeks, even as overall levels of violence in Iraq have fallen.”
And poster #5, just to clarify, the subjects are these cowardly attacks were not American soldiers, they were Iraqis. If American soldiers are precipitously withdrawn, these type of attacks against Iraqis will only increase.
January 7th, 2008 at 3:57 pmPardon me for being an idiot, but WHY are we STILL in Iraq again?
I am stupid that way, forgive me.
January 7th, 2008 at 3:57 pmSorry about this off topic note, folks, but it is just too good to not share.
From the Daily Kos site today, this anecdote about David Brooks from MyDD, Transplanted Texan:
I headed back to my car around midnight – and who should I find on the empty sidewalks but a lost David Brooks, unable to find his car. He asked if I knew where the media lots were, and then proceeded to head in the opposite direction. Having parked near a media lot, I can now say with some confidence: David Brooks asked me for help, and wound up even more lost when he didn’t take my directions.
Ah! Maybe this explains why he has been so out in left field with no clue. A touch of senility the problem?
January 7th, 2008 at 3:59 pmsuch a waste!
January 7th, 2008 at 4:01 pmcan somebody remind me why we’re in iraq?
Wait a minute. All stories about the horrific daily violence in Iraq must be prefaced with the phrase, “Today, the relative calm in Iraq was shattered by…”.
January 7th, 2008 at 4:02 pmTo: Fan of Man and BillinChicago, You’re right, GW is the dumbest SOB since Homo Erectus; the problem is a hapless President with an evilcynical man who learned his trade under Richard Milhous Nixon.
January 7th, 2008 at 4:05 pmThe really tragic thing is that in voth 2000 & 2004, the elections were stolen. Read Greg Palast, it’s enought to make a liberal, or even a person weep.

January 7th, 2008 at 4:08 pmThose dumbass insurgents. The silly bastards don’t even realize that the surge is working and that we’re winning and that our mission has been accomplished. The next thing you know, they’ll stop greeting us with flowers and start insisting that Blackwater stop murdering people in the streets…or that U.S. Government personnel stop raping and murdering 14 year old children…or that (Heaven Forbid!) the Bush administration stop torturning innocent Iraqi citizens in Sadam’s torture chambers. Don’t they realize that George Bush is a hero and doing these things for their own good?

Comment by Exley
My dear Exley, I never said the attacks were against American troops. I was praising John McCain who wants to keep our troops in their current place as security guards and human shields monitoring a civil war. Why not keep American troops for 20,000 years in Iraq while we’re at it? Hell, let’s kill off 50,000 Americans like in Vietnam and make it a real war. Let’s exterminate an entire generation of Americans in the coming years so we can set up an Islamic wonderland like our great President cherishes. You are aware that the primary political parties in Iraq are Islamist are you not, and that we are trying to create an environment that fosters Islamic extremism in the government are you not? Iraq’s strongest political party is the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI)). Its stated goal is “the establishment of an Islamic government in Iraq”. Iranian officials have praised this political party and referred to its leader Hakim as the leader of Iraq’s future Islamic state. Oh, and do you know what the second strongest political party in Iraq is? It’s the Dawa party, that supports another Islamic friend named Al Sadr. It’s wonderful that we have such capable candidates as John McCain who so look forward to the deaths of American troops so that Iraq’s major political parties can create a lasting Islamic fundamentalist state for the next 10,000 years, isn’t it?
January 7th, 2008 at 4:12 pmCue the rightwing trolls who want to keep American soldiers in a free fire zone for “a million years”.

January 7th, 2008 at 4:12 pmLook what Cheney’s and Bush’s ‘experience’ got us into.
I’ll take a janitor over these lifers like McCstain.

January 7th, 2008 at 4:14 pmyet the unpatriotic trolls here want more troops to be maimed and killed so they don’t have to admit they were duped by the deserter in chief.

Comment by LividLib
To destroy the military and replace it with private mercenaries who owe their loyalty only to the right-wing owned global cartel and it’s wholly owned subsidary, the Republican party.
January 7th, 2008 at 4:17 pmThese trolls and bushlickers should be sentenced to work at Walter Reid Hospital for 20 years of bedpan duty.
January 7th, 2008 at 4:17 pmand has been attacking us in Iraq since
Uh, no, and you know it.
AQI came into being well after the INVASION and OCCUPATION of Iraq. You miserable cur.
January 7th, 2008 at 4:27 pmgg, by the way, please explain to all of us how attacking and invading Iraq is justified following the attacks on the U.S. by al Qaeda.

Haven’t you heard? Most Fox News viewers believe those planes were hijacked by Iraqis.

Ya’ just gotta love that thinly-veiled racism…
January 7th, 2008 at 5:05 pmTHAT’S LIKE a false trichotomy…right there…
January 7th, 2008 at 5:36 pmSo al Qaeda, the terrorist organization that attacked us on U.S. soil in 2001 and has been attacking us in Iraq since, is still at work. Does that mean we should cut and run and let them terrorize at will?
Comment by good_golly — January 7, 2008 @ 4:25 pm
What al qaeda? there is no al qaeda, except the one formed by the antiAmerican CIA stooges that the republicans paid. you don’t know what you’re talking about. If we weren’t there, they wouldn’t be, either. You’re so damn stupid, how do you remember to breathe?
January 7th, 2008 at 5:39 pmWell gg looks like we’re doing the same thing about AQI and we are about AQ which isn’t much. We have allowed both groups to dig in and grow while Bush thumps his chest.
How about (d) and have Bush hand over the keys and let the grown ups deal with this.
January 7th, 2008 at 5:40 pmBush: lost three wars.
Obama: lost no wars.
I wonder who would be the better president?
January 7th, 2008 at 5:41 pm43. a) if we stay, we die. they grow.
b) if we cut and run, we live. they go
c) see b.
January 7th, 2008 at 5:42 pmcut and run scares the crap out of cc. It’s just a slogan. Bush couldn’t gain national support for this adventure so he called in his buddies and gave them some fat no bid contracts. too bad GW lacks any true vision other than making money for friends.
January 7th, 2008 at 5:48 pm(b) cut and run and let them terrorize at will; or (c) assume that terrorists will suddenly become really nice and leave us all alone one we leave.
Comment by good_golly — January 7, 2008 @ 5:21 pm
“cut and run”?
whoa! did you come up with that one all by your lonesome?
clever!
btw, be sure to look under the bed before you tuck yourself in tonight.
