Lou Dobbs for president?

Lou Dobbs for president?

Today, the Wall Street Journal notes that CNN’s Lou Dobbs is increasingly being mentioned as a potential independent presidential candidate by pundits such as Robert Novak. Dobbs’s response:

ldobbs4.jpg Mr. Dobbs says he isn’t planning to run. “I haven’t got the personality or nature to be a politician,” he said in an interview Thursday. But he makes clear he hasn’t ruled out the idea. “I cannot say never,” he said.

Dobbs himself also “fanned the presidential speculation in November, posting a column on CNN’s Web site that floated the idea that a surprise candidate was poised to enter the race.”

    Yikes.

  2. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

You just know he's going to court the illegal immigrant vote.

    (/sarcasm off)

  3. Frosty Cupcake Says:

I always picture Dobbs, after another show, sitting in some exclusive club, drinking very expensive scotch, congratulating himself on another great night on TV.

  4. LividLib Says:

" “I haven’t got the personality or nature to be a politician,” he said..."

actually, Lou, you don't have the personality or nature to be human.

  5. SP Biloxi Says:

Oh, god! Let me make sure that this is a nightmare that I am experiencing.

  6. gummitch Says:

Oh, hell, I think it's a great idea. Dobbsie certainly won't be siphoning any votes from the Democrats.

  7. mary Says:

Anyone who has seen the movie "Children of Men" will probably understand that Mr. Dobbs came to my mind during that movie.

  8. Yankeluh Says:

Oh, I hope he runs. All the anti-immigration Tancredoites will flock to his shadow. This may yet be the biggest Democratic landslide ever.

  9. Marie Says:

Dobbs is a one-trick-pony. His ego will never tolerate the scrutiny into his personal life.
    This is xenophobe's pipedream.

  10. Uncle Ho Says:

Dobbs for prez is only nominally improved over Rush Limpdick for prez. LMFAO!

  11. Zooey Says:

    That's a funny one, TP.

  12. Starve-A-Bush_Feed-A-Beaver Says:

Dobbs really isn't that bad. He has trashed Bush over and over again on a continuing basis, especially over Iraq and the economy and for cozying up to the corporations that ship jobs overseas. For that, Dobbs deserves great priase. It's his single minded obssession against illegal immigrants that bugs me and why I could never support a Dobbs candidacy. But the rest of the time, Dobbs is one of the good guys.

I have to agree with you on this. Reminds me of Buchanan a bit. They both don't see Bush as a real Conservative. However, I would not want either one as president.

Yep...CC is not posting to express any valid views he/she may hold. An uneducated, unpatriotic thorn in our side, to be sure.

Oh CC, I hear redstate is calling for you. Now, there is a sensible group of nutjobs. You should feel right at home.

  18. JMOHR Says:

I agree with Starve a Bush Feed a Beaver.

Dobbs has some seriously flawed reasoning when it comes to immigration and security, however:

    1. He recognizes the role played by big business in encouraging illegal immigration.

    2. He understands what should be a fairly basic principle in economics: one must be able to gainfully employ a large majority of its work force in order to prosper over the long term.

    3. He does recognize that the middle class is under attack. (I do not know if he realizes that the working and poor have already been sunk.)

  19. LibertyLover Says:

When one gets an endorsement from a traitor like Novak... that's got to be good.

  20. StratRat Says:

You mean, a sensible group of real Americans who provide the voice OF America, as the majority desire.

    Redstate.org, everybody.

    Comment by Clear Conservative

Yeah, nimrod. That's what I meant. Were'nt the communists the 'red' ones?

  21. Doc Rock Says:

We'd be hanging undocumented immigrants on TV!

  22. Xisithrus Says:

If dummocrats care so much about the middle class and working poor, why won’t they fight illegal immigration? The concept is simple: an overflowing labor pool makes it tougher for the needy already in this country to find work. -CC

Why did Bush want to give them amnesty?

  23. Xisithrus Says:

George says the illegals do the work that Americans dont want to do CC.

Maybe you should take your foolish projectionism to a conservative site and point fngers at yourselves.

  24. Xisithrus Says:

Why does Mexico always have to overpopulate itself and create shortages in everything needed? -CC

Gee, because they are atheists? Oh, wait thats wrong. My bad.

Free Market Capitalism!! I Outsource American jobs to China because I am an America Lover!!

  29. bilbobaggins Says:

Please don't turn this thread over to CC too. It has pretty much polluted every thread today and you are all playing into it's hands by giving it what it wants...attention!

He'll win votes with his friendly demeanour and kind smile. This guy makes Mitt 'Double Guantanamo' Romney look like Anne Hathaway.

  32. Leftside Annie Says:

Hmmmm. Perhaps if all of Bush's rich friends who employ illegal aliens and pay them $2.00 an hour under the table were rounded up and prosecuted, it might have a ...chilling... effect on that problem of undocumented workers, eh...?

  33. Wayne Says:

The baby can dish it out, but cannot take it.

  34. RUCerious Says:

    BWAAAHAHAHAHAH!

Yer one trick pony just puked.

  35. MapleStreet Says:

On a tangent of the above - regarding wages: How come the repubs hate the minimum wage, but when it comes to illegal immigration, the ultimate evil is that it keeps wages too low ?

  36. Jeremy in Denver Says:

Because realistically, they don't hate immigration (Illegal or otherwise) due to lowered wages or any of the other reasons they give. It's just an excuse for their racism.

  37. Sabyen91 Says:

Uhh, Tancredo already dropped out of the race because his one issue BS didn't fly. Dobbs would just be a carbon-copy.

  38. jpoke42 Says:

I have been watching Dobbs for years and I dont think most of you can get past his objections with illegal immigration. I'll submit that I don't watch him that much anymore because I too am a bit tired of the immigrant issue. HOWEVER, most of you have him wrong! He truly is for middle America which is what the Democrats used to be for. He is not a racist, he has said that we should make the immigration process more transparent and efficeint and perhaps raise the cap on the number allowed in the country. That is not being racist, that is being a realist. Illegal immigrants only enrich the corporations and lower wages for Americans.

He rants against falling wages, big corporations run amok, unsafe imports and outsourcing jobs.... gee that sounds a lot like what Democrats used to be for?!?!

  39. jpoke42 Says:

Oh yeah, did i forget to mention that he thinks Bush is one of the worst presidents of all times. How can you dislike him that much?
