I was just watching the video, where the U.S. battleship was almost forced to open fire on the Iranian boats. I guarantee if the U.S. had blown those boats out of the water(which according to the video, they would have been justified in doing so) Think Progress would be posting headlines claiming Bush was trying to find a backdoor way to go to war with Iran.

To McCain: Are you sure it’s off the front page? It’s off the front page of the newspapers, but thanks to you and yours, those aren’t relevant anymore. I assure you it is on _our_ front pages, the men and women whose votes you need to see your dream of global domination come to fruition.
If the boats had been blown out of the water, there would have been no evidence.
Come to think of it, there really isn’t any evidence they were actually Iranian boats to begin with… they look like a bunch of bass fishermen to me…
(Sorry, Jeremy…., you can flag me if you feel like it..)
And hopefully McCain, you’ll be of the front pages before long. Waxing and waning just turns my stomach. If you only knew who you were you wouldn’t keep trying to be somebody the money guys want you to be.
Say, by the way, did you know your place in the boonies is on my district?
To bad they don’t have a bar in Quemado, we could have a beer and a few laughs.
C’mon down to Uncle Bills in Reserve, if it’s not to far out of your way next time you’re in the neighborhood.
Or maybe I’ll just stop by, let me know next time you’re down here.

Because McCain didn’t actually say that, of course.

The brackets are used when the speaker is referring to a already defined subject. McCain said: “Thank God, “it” is off the front pages. The discussion was about Iraq, so McCain was saying “Thank God Iraq is off the front pages”, but he used the word “it” to describe Iraq.
Grand times, weren’t they?” the candidate recalls ruefully. He cites four factors: his strong debate performances, the support of erstwhile-Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman, his town hall meetings in New Hampshire and, particularly, the success of the surge in Iraq. “Thank God it’s off the front pages,” he says.
How the hell is that not referencing the surge and Iraq???
And why did TP feel the need to put brackets around [Iraq is] in John McCain’s quote?

Memo to HurriMcCain: Iraq may be off the front pages but it is still in the hearts and thoughts of the American people. Iowans demostrated that in their caucus last week.
McCain’s brain is blinking red lights now. He should go home and rest, but the roster of candidates for his lame repugnican party is so unattractive that he must remain in the game and go down again in ignominy. The party will not tolerate Huckleberry, nor Ron Paul; Romney is questionable and Giuliani is a loose cannon, so their only viable man is McCain, and he is making these stupid comments.
He put the Iraq war into a political barometer. He supports the war, the surge and George Bush! So, it is nice for him politically to not see that 3911 Americans have died in this stupid, illegal, immoral war that he endorses.
Hey mandolin, Since when is a Battleship ‘forced’ to open fire on a gunboat??
This kind of thinking leads us to war, but then that’s what GW wants. Don’t insult my intelligence by saying that your viewing of the videos gave reason for the Battleship to open fire. Can the crap.

In his campaign of gymnastic flip-flops and mind-bending distortions, Mitt Romney topped himself Monday with his hilarious claim that he’s just “a guy from Detroit.” While Detroit and Romney’s suburban childhood home in tony Bloomfield Hills might be separated by just a few miles, his privileged life there was light years away from Motor City.
Meanwhile, on Sunday in Windham, New Hampshire, the former Baptist Minister and Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee returned to his roots and delivered a sermon on being “soldiers for Christ” in “God’s Army.”

First of all, it isn’t a battleship. Do we even have any active battleships anymore?
At any rate, as someone else already noted, boats no larger than this damaged the USS Cole. A fast boat like that, packed with explosives, is capable of doing a lot of damage, even to an aircraft carrier or other vessel. I think we’re lucky that our Naval officers are as professional and well-trained as they are, and didn’t over-react. However, they’re also responsible for their ships and their crews and, at some point, would have to fire on potentially hostile boats that got too close. Let’s not be naive.

Regarding the Strait of Hormuz incident – just put it in a reverse scenario.
Would it be much different from us being “insurgents” against an invading army? The US patiots were insurgents were they not?
We are in their back yard (or waters). They may have been provoking us, testing us, teasing us, but we don’t give others any allowance for doing whatever we might also do in the same situation.
As to the Strait of Hormuz incident, would Iran not be well within its rights to actually attack US interests there or anywhere else? Afterall preemption has been established as a legitimate geopolitical tool. Can any of you argue that Iran does not have a reasonable argument that the US poses a potential threat to their nation and thus may require them to act premptively. They certainly can not be expected to wait for a mushroom cloud over Tehran before they act in defense of their nation.
