$25,000:

By Amanda Terkel on Jan 8th, 2008 at 4:26 pm

$25,000:

Amount President Bush’s visit to Israel will cost the country every hour. Israeli security personnel “will include snipers, bomb-sniffing dogs and bodyguards, including reservists called up especially for the visit.” There will be approximately “8,000 police and security officers coming to Jerusalem to guard the visit and keep order.”

  2. RUCerious says:

As long as the $25,000 per hour is being picked up by Israel, no problem. Not one American shekel!

    2) Israel is a democracy where people live in freedom and not in the barbarian states as those Arab countries. ?

  13. Yankeluh says:

Oh, #2, they will charge it off to our aid package. They should tell Bush to stay home so they can use the money for something worthwhile. At least the Israelis are not using private contractors. That would triple the figure.

The blow job was a freebie dumbass. It was the Republican witch hunt that cost all the money.

  38. missmolly says:

Um…before people go batsh!t over this number, please remember that while Bush probably doesn’t require 8,000 security people EVERYWHERE he goes, he does require some. To put this number in perspective, it would be helpful to list how much security he needs to visit other countries and the cost. Plus what security he requires when he travels around the United States (just security — not even factoring in the cost of his entourage and flying Air Force One). For that matter, let’s calculate how much it costs in security just for Bush to sit at home and do nothing.

The point is that all presidents, whether we approve of the job they do or not, tend to be expensive to protect and to move around. Israel is a rather volatile area and probably requires more security than other places, but as long as they foot the bill and feel they are getting their money’s worth, fine.

  94. missmolly says:

Define “bad”. If Bush became ill or died, I would not rejoice. I don’t wish anyone bodily harm, even if I wish them gone from any position of power.

However, if the “bad” thing that happens to Bush is that he is held accountable for his misdeeds, is impeached, removed from office, and possibly faces criminal charges, I would at least feel that justice has been served and that the system works. There would be some satisfaction in that, but it would be tempered with the sadness associated with such actions being necessary. I felt the same way when Nixon resigned. Sad — but relieved and satisfied that the right thing was done.

What is Reagans or Clintons legacy? It’s to early to tell.

    Comment by Southern Man — January 8, 2008 @ 5:53 pm

Actually, Reagan will be looked at as a daft old Alzheimer’s victim who was easily manipulated into treasonous acts. Clinton’s 8 years of peace and prosperity will place him rather high on the list of sucessful president’s while his impeachment will be seen as crass political theater by a dying party. Bush, of course, will be listed with Pol Pot, Hitler, Genghis Khan and other infamous terrorist mass-murderes.

Simple, really. Too bad for you and the rest of the koolaid-chuggers who have no understanding of the Constitution.

You love to tout the Constitution when it favors you ideals, but your above comment shows your true lack of honor for the Constitution. He is still a sitting president that was elected by the people. Wishing for his death shows your true hatred for this country and the democratic process. Thanks for sharing!

Where in the constitution does it say I have to love the sovereign I didn’t vote for?

The Pledge of Allegiance doesn’t even have a “God Save the King” clause.

To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.

They’ll just pass the cost along to the US

  114. RickS says:

Cost aside, what will this little trip really accomplish? Anything substantial, or is it just a last minute photo-op to fill in the walls of Bush’s future presidential library?

  115. techsong says:

Interesting timing on the so called Iranian patrol boat confrontation while Bush ins in the middle east. Check out the so called “video” released by the pentagon. Looks like a 12 year old produced it. Not very convincing at all.

168 – Rick S. – they have to have pictures, LOTS of pictures, in Chimpy’s Liebarry, since that one shelf filled with ‘graphic novels’ won’t take up very much room.
