Rudy ‘Speak English’ Giuliani Releases Campaign Ad In Spanish

Like many of the other GOP presidential candidates, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani had tried to portray himself as tough on undocumented immigration. One of his favorite applause lines has been to stress English-only policies:

The final end result about becoming a citizen — you should be able to have to read English, write English, and speak English if you want to become a citizen.

Nevertheless, Giuliani wants the votes of Floridians who speak Spanish. Today, he has released a new campaign ad en español to air on at least three Spanish-language television stations in Miami. At the end of the ad — called Liderazgo (Leadership) — Giuliani says, “Soy Rudy Giuliani y apruebo este mensaje (I’m Rudy Giuliani and I approved this message).” Watch it:

Last fall, the owner of Philadelphia cheesesteak restaurant Geno’s Steaks endorsed Giuliani. Vento became notorious for posting a sign in his restaurant that read: “This is America. When Ordering Please Speak English.” He also once told a reporter that Mexicans carry disease into the United States because they “play and drink out of the same water.”

Giuliani wholeheartedly embraced Vento’s endorsement, posting it on the campaign’s official YouTube site. Giuliani also personally went to Philadelphia and embraced Vento. “Whenever I’m at Geno’s, I order in English,” he told a reporter. From his visit:

giulianivento.gif

Will Vento post a similar sign for Giuliani? “This is America. When Campaigning, Please Speak English.”

Digg It!

Giuliani ordering in English at Geno's restaurant:

    "Hey 911, 911 me a 911."

"How would you like that Mr. Giuliani?"

    "Medium 911".

    "Anything to drink?"

    "Yeah, a bottle of 911."

    "Any dessert with that?"

    "Well, 911 because I 911 and I don't want to 911. On the other hand, 911 sounds 911"

    "Enjoy your meal Mr. Giuliani."

    "911"

  15. SP Biloxi Says:

Oh, man Rudy is getting desperate. Snubbed the latino community and now panhandling them for a vote.

Memo to Rudy: A visit to Taco Bell and putting out a Spanish ad are not going to win you a vote from them.

  16. Jeremy in Denver Says:

Rudy spricht Deutsch nicht. Er kann English und Spanisch auch nicht. Nur spricht er neun elf. ;)

  17. A Patriot Acting Says:

Just wait until y'all see the campaign ad he's working on for the San Francisco area. He's pandering to the transvestite vote wearing a stunning little number by Gaultier. Made of delicate muslin with spaghetti straps and tie-dyed with a large red 9/11 across the bussom.

  18. Jeremy in Denver Says:

Err, I should have said 'Nur spricht er Neun Elf.' After all, the way he uses those numbers, they _are_ proper nouns.

  19. AngryOne Says:

Meanwhile, on Sunday in Windham, New Hampshire, the former Baptist Minister and Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee returned to his roots and delivered a sermon on being "soldiers for Christ" in "God's Army."

  20. Clumberfeet Says:

Tell me that joke again about the Republicans not wanting illegals providing cheap labor for American businesses. Laborers that can't unionize, will work for any wage and can be fired with no claim to their last paycheck. If they try, that's when the employer calls the INS.

It's the Democrats, not in the Administrative Branch, who don't enforce the immigration laws because they are looking for votes even though the last thing someone in the country illegally, looking for a job, wants to do is show up at a polling place and prove who they are.

  21. Starve-A-Bush_Feed-A-Beaver Says:

Is Rudy even in the running now? He didn't show up in either Iowa or New Hampshire. How is he going to win in the South, considering that he's held less than conservative views on many issues in the past and that he's now become a one-issue candidate?

  22. missmolly Says:

Oh, I'm sure in Rudyworld, whoring for votes is exempt from the "English Only" rule.

  23. Keltoi Says:

Kinda OT, this is from Drudge:

EPIC TURNOUT FOR DEMS -- We Are Out of Ballots!

Out of ballots?!?!? Does this mean the Dems are suppressing their own voters?!?!?!

You can bet that is exactly what the accustation would be if this happened in a general election in a democratic majority precinct...

    Comment by Starve-A-Bush_Feed-A-Beaver — January 8, 2008 @ 3:05 pm

Not only that, but southern bible-belters prefer their candidates to have always been conservative on social issues, instead of being recent converts. Except them to vote for Huckabee in greater numbers than Rudy or Mitt for this reason.

Not that it matters much to the Democrats -- any of these three will get their clock cleaned by the Dem nominee no matter who it is.

  49. Jeremy in Denver Says:

Yes, Keltoi, that's better. Cite a reputable source so we can look it up and verify it.

In this case, Drudge lied. They had _not_ run out of ballots yet, but are running low. If we get news about Democratic voters being locked out of the caucus because of insufficient resources, then we can start talking about whether or not there is hypocrisy in the air.

At the moment, I take this to mean that even with the blowout of Dem to Republican voters in Iowa, this will be bigger...

    Comment by Clumberfeet — January 8, 2008 @ 2:58 pm

So the Dems are appealing for votes from people afraid to show up at the voting precincts?

    Okay, if YOU say so

But before blathering such nonsense again, here's a helpful hint, "En boca cerrado, no entran moscas". Staying away from the "Post-I agree" button at the bottom of the page will achieve the same results for you as well

You'll be the first to whine if the undocumenteds are deported-or stop doing those dirty, low-wage jobs too many in this country think they're too immaculate to perform-because the price you'll pay at the check-out register will rise dramatically

And with regards to Rudy911, hypocrisy isn't usually as glaring as the subject of this post, but leave it to Giuliani to once again establish a newer, lower yardstick, one matching his complete lack of ethics in all other respects

But maybe he'll reconcile with his kids as his campaign crashes and burns further into irrelevant whining, kids smart enough to desert their worthless father politically

  65. totallybeachin Says:

Why is it that whenever the topic of illegal immigration comes up, people ASSUME that those that are against it are only against the illegals that are hispanic. The issue is NOT ABOUT RACE. It is about people that blatently break the law, then demand rights that are not theirs. It just so happens that a MAJORITY of the lawless aliens are hispanic. But I don't care what color you are or where you came from, if you are here ILLEGALLY, then get the hell out and take your welfare leeching children with you.
