Blackwater increases DC lobbying presence.
Controversial private security firm Blackwater Worldwide “has ramped up its lobbying representation on Capitol Hill” by hiring the law firm Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice to “lobby the government on contracting and other issues.” “Womble Carlyle is the third lobbying firm to be hired by Moyock, N.C.-based Blackwater since October.”

those that want to put an end to lobbying and corporate control get an unfair deal with corporate MSM. Edwards gets no coverage, as compared to Hillary and Obama, even though he came in second in Iowa.

January 10th, 2008 at 12:10 amOur tax dollars are being diverted to firms like Blackwater, who will eventually protect only those who can afford them. Our military should be building up an arsenal, not Blackwater. We should all demand this from our congress person. It seems strange to me that our government can send in the FBI to break up small, milita cults in America, yet allow Blackwater to buildup a military that is better equipped, better payed, and more capable then the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines. Something is seriously wrong with this picture. As a veteran of Desert Storm, I feel that Blackwater and all those associated with it, have dishonored the American soldier and devalued their service, in the name of greed.

January 10th, 2008 at 9:38 amInorder for Blackwater (and many American companies) to function they have to hire an assortment of lobbing firms to aquire their business and an assortment of law firms to protect them from their unbusiness like impropriaties.
In any normal business atmosphere a company would have to incur these costs and add them to the price of their product. But with the likes of a Blackwater (and other no bid contract firms), the lobbyists pay those up from costs and expenses to aqiure their work. And the “no bid” allows these firms to easily assorb any expense the law firm charges as a result of their bad behavior.
America has really distorted the meaning of “commerce” and hides behind handouts and favors for the connected.
“Commerce” is not a handout. Commerce does not exist to explicitly guarantee work for law firms. If these firms have to depend on lobbists and lawyers to conduct their business might it be time to challange the meaning of “commerce” as it applies to the laws as written.
