GOP urging Rep. Doolittle to resign.

GOP urging Rep. Doolittle to resign.

The Hill reports that “friends and colleagues” of Rep. John Doolittle (R-CA) are urging the congressman to retire at the end of his term. Doolittle is currently under federal investigation for his ties with fallen lobbyist Jack Abramoff and contractor Brent Wilkes. Former Republican congressman Richard Pombo — “who lost his seat amid ethics allegations” — has reportedly called on his “longtime friend” Doolittle “to not seek reelection in the interest of keeping the district a GOP stronghold.”

    God. I hate Repukes.

  2. CitiDC says:

Jack Abramoff is not a “fallen” lobbyist nor is he a “disgraced” lobbyist.

He is a incarcerated felon who used to be a lobbyist.

Call a spade a spade, please.

  3. Dave C says:

Just think, if every Republican resigned they’d be totally free of all of the crimes hanging over their heads. What a GOP stronghold they’d have then.

  4. Starve-A-Bush_Feed-A-Beaver says:

Yes, but did he get caught having public bathroom sex? That’s what seems to matter to Republican constituencies. I think they would actually take pride in voting for a mere crook.

  5. Gregor Samsa says:

I rather agree with what CitiDC said.

Abramoff is a convicted felon who used to make a living as a lobbyist.

We can do away with the niceties now; he did enter a guilty plea.

  6. trickster92 says:

I actually hopes that he holds on and does not resign. Resigning now will allow the GOP to let the story die down and find a replacement candidate.

If he goes for a re-election, then the story doesn’t die and it can be used to beat him about the head and neck with it.

As for Doolittle, I am surprised he hasn’t been charged yet.

I was under the impression the FBI had solid evidence against him.

  9. Cats r Flyfishn says:

Doolittle’s resignation will do little to keep GOP control of this seat.

  10. Zimzone says:

Doolittle, from the Do-nothing Congress? That one?

If he resigns on the condition that Dunk’n Donuts Hunter & Jerry ‘the hair’ Lewis do, too, I’m OK with that.

  11. ForTruth says:

How about Sen. Larry Craig? GOP… Hello?

  12. SP Biloxi says:

Rats are turning on rats. Looks like another Craig-gate. We see how much “love” the GOP had for toe-tapping Craig.

They do and have had for a very long time. Unfortunately it is Bush’s Justice Department that has to follow through on the indictment and I wouldn’t bet on that happening before the Democratic President takes office in 2009.

  15. shoeless says:

We must keep in mind what Dolittle and Wilkes were doing when they got caught. They, and other corrupt Republicans, the Dukestir, Jerry Lewis, ect. had set up phoney “defense contractors” which were given untold million of dollars in Defense Dept. money, most of which was funneled to their pockets, and to the Republican National Committee in order to keep corrupt Republicans in power. So far, we have only seen the tip of the iceburg in this massive scandal.

    Because you’re SouthernMan?

  21. shoeless says:

One reason the Republicans need to get shed of Dolittle is that ehy must distance themselves from the gigantic swindle of which he was a small part. At this point, it is impossible to know how many corrupt Republicans were involved in the scam which funneled mountains of cash from the Defense Dept. to various phoney fronts set up as “defense contractors”, Wilkes, MZM, ect., and from there to the pockets of many corrupt Republicans and to the RNC itself. U.S. Attorney Carol Lam was fired by Alberto Gonzales because she had just nailed Dolittle, and was close on the trial of Rep. Jerry Lewis (R – CA). She had even uncovered information which led to Dick Cheney.

Was Carol Lam Targeting The White House Prior To Her Firing?

Has William J. Jefferson resigned yet?

    dooie gg, dooie.

    focus.

    you can do it.

  23. shoeless says:

Has William J. Jefferson resigned yet?

    Comment by good_golly

I hope that Dolittle refuses to resign. If he leaves Congress, it becomes that much easier for the Republicans to distance themselves from the scam in which so many of them were obviously involved. The indictment of Dolittle means little in the whole scope of what is probably the most gigantic corruption and swindle of US taxpayers in our history. We need to get to the bottom of this scam and expose all of the Republican criminals involved.

  24. bilbobaggins says:

Resign now Doolittle. That way you and William Jefferson(D) La., can cancel each other out.
    Comment by Southern Man

So if Doolittle resigns and Jefferson is re-elected, how will they cancel each other out?

I think one of the reasons why the Justice Department hasn’t moved forward on the Jefferson indictment is because they don’t want to be accused of partisanship because they are not moving forward on the indictments of the Republicans like Doolittle, Lewis and Stevens.

  25. bilbobaggins says:

Has William J. Jefferson resigned yet?
    Comment by good_golly

Unfortunately he has not. On the other hand, he was handily re-elected after the scandal broke so he probably doesn’t feel the need to resign.

If the Justice Department moves forward on the Jefferson indictment, they will also have to move forward on all the Republican indictments and that is something they don’t want to do.

  26. ForTruth says:

I agree William “the Freezer” Jefferson should resign. Along with at least 10 Republicans.

  27. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

Once more, I will not let this right-wing myth-making pass without a response. The only reason Bush received a majority of electoral college votes was that his friends on the Supreme Court prevented the state of Florida from counting all their votes. A study of the disputed votes found that if all Florida votes had been counted, Al Gore would have won the state REGARDLESS OF THE COUNTING STANDARD!

Anyone who doesn’t believe this is welcome to google on “20040526_KeatingPaper.pdf” and they will find a pdf of the actual media consortium results. Scroll down to the page with tables and see the result for yourself. And this doesn’t even include the “overvotes” that a Florida judge was about to rule should be counted when the Supreme court decided to step in and stop the process. Gore would have gained at least another 10,000 votes in the overvotes.

Bottom line: Al Gore was the rightful winner of the 2000 election.

  28. Lefty Patriot says:

But you knew what I meant Matt. Your not a doctor yet, don’t give up. I somewhat believe in you. Just not as my Dr.

    Comment by Southern Man — January 9, 2008 @ 5:27 pm

So the fact that you’re wrong shouldn’t count? Gore got 500,000 more votes than Bush.

  29. Lefty Patriot says:

    Please try to keep up.

    Comment by good_golly — January 9, 2008 @ 8:21 pm

well, gg, go back and find all the posts defending Jefferson’s behavior. You won’t find any, because, unlike ytou hypocrites, we recognize that breaking the law demands justice, no matter whose side is affected. i understand the difficulty that poses for y9our party, since the thieves, liars, psychopaths and pedophiles outnumber the rational humans in the Republican party, but it’s no excuse. Your party is despicable, and anti American. You should be ashamed, but you’re also despicable and antiAmerican.
