I've read most of the 200 comments. None of you calling calling Ron Paul a whackjob ever stop to wonder how a whackjob can do such a masterful job of explaining why we shouldn't be involved overseas. Perhaps he's not a whackjob after all.

All of the domestic government duties you list can just as easily be done by state government. Public schools, minimum wages - why not have every state decide for themselves what's right. Minimum wage of $8 an hour may be just fine in Montana, but pitifully low in Connecticut.

I like Ron Paul, a lot, and as a former Democrat, I'm going to vote for him.

It's too bad that none of the finger pointing, progressive-fascist candidates have even begin to define a way out of Iraq (Europe, Korea, Afghanistan, etc.), an end to corporate-welfare based health care "system," or a way around the pending economic ruination of the warfare-welfare state. It's also a pity that they care more about catering to special interest groups than they do about preserving individual rights and responsibilities. True compassion and community building consist of more than flushing ever-increasing sums of OUR money down the tax hole.

shoeless said:

Hopefully, if a Democrat were debating Paul, he/she would ask him to explain why he want to repeal the following laws:

Civil Rights Law
Antitrust Law
All Labor Law (including child labor law)
Environmental Protection Law

Also, he could be asked why he wants to abolish such things as:

Public Roads
Public Transportation
Fire Departments
Public Schools
National, State, and Local Parks
Public Beaches
Public Waterways
Minimum Wages
Social Security
School Lunches
Medicare
Medicaid
Head Start
Food Stamps
Housing Assistance ect.

I would pay to see that debate!

---------------------

Sir, His reply would be that it is not the role of the Federal Government to fund such things.

Paul's position is difficult to understand if you think that there is a connection between what he wants government to do, and what he believes individuals should do.

What he believes is that government can not fix moral problems and that he should not foist his moral responsibilities on others using the government.

To imagine how absurd this is, remember that Larry Craig favored anti-gay laws, and Bill Clinton was a supporter of sexual Harassment laws.

Ron Paul shows the deep hypocrisy within the establishment parties: the Democrats and Republicans.

Paul is the only candidate in either party who wants to shut down the entire American overseas political and military Empire.

The Democrats claim to be against the Iraq war yet during the Hanover, NH debate, “The three leading Democratic presidential candidates refused on Wednesday night to promise that they would withdraw all American troops from Iraq by the end of their first term, saying in a televised debate here that they could not predict the future challenges in Iraq.”

Paul would immediately withdraw all US forces from Iraq.

The Republicans claim to want small limited government, but the size and scope of it has grown considerably under Bush and Cheney.

Paul would dramatically decrease the size and scope of the government. He would pardon all non-violent drug offenders, eliminate the Departments of Education, Commerce, Energy and Homeland Security, get rid of corporate and agricultural subsidies, foreign aid, and a host of other programs.

<em>Have Ron Paul debate the issues with any candidate republican or dem and he will whipe the floor with them all.

Well, the Republicans have proven they can't debate him, because they will not call him to the carpet on his Libertarian agenda.

<em>Thats all fine and dandy, but the problem is the nation can’t afford it anymore...

What? We can't afford infrastructure anymore?!?! Wow! You Libertarians are really off the deep end. You reactionaries would have living in caves again. This is a perfect example of why a Libertarian can't get elected dogcatcher, and why Ron Paul became a Republican, so he can hide the fact that he wants to do away with public roads.

If you think things are bad now, just imagine what it would be like if our leaders were Libertarians!

What we in Europe still don't understand is that Americans always cry freedom not realizing that freedom among other things comes from a goverment that takes care of basics like healthcare, education etc. Otherwise it's just the rights of the strongest prevailing and thats just the 1% realy wealthy so no...that does not include you.

I like America and I like Americans - so please get your country back under control before it all falls apart. These Republican cowboys are fun to watch but realy...these people don't have the brains to run a country. Give them a job in Hollywood or whatever - but for God's sake don't make them President!

Ms_Joanne.

Thats all fine and dandy, but the problem is the nation can't afford it anymore as a result of past republican and democratic parties who have driven the country into never-ending debt.

You really think Obama is all about change?

Great, he has a small record and he's a good speaker...but do you really think that is enough for America? As long as the U.S stays on it's current form of governing, there is no room for change.

Change will only come from changing the system itself...not voting for the status quo of the Republicans and democrats.

Keep dreaming for change.

Hey Git, I seem to recall Obama ALWAYS being against the war. Check his voting record and his speeches.

And know what? I would rather a welfare state for PEOPLE than a corporate welfare state. I want to see my taxes go back into roads and infrastructure and not into Haliburton, Blackwater and the MIC. Ron Paul is for limited government. Sorry, we need stuff like infrastructure (which also gives Americans reasonably well paying jobs which stimulates the economy).

Sorry, RP isn't the be all end all. Far from it.

Interesting observation.

You people won't support Ron Paul because he's a threat to you're vision of a welfare state.

Republicans and Democrats are the same, they both just want more and more government to no limit. They both wage wars, they both lie and steal, they both support large corporate profits, etc, etc, etc.

You guys don't even see your one and the same.

<em>I nominate Peter for president. He has a better clue than the majority of those running. (Thanks, btw, I completely got that!)

Now, Peter…can you give Rudi 9u11iani an idea about taxes. He needs it.

I agree. Thanks Peter. That was an excellent explanation. You made it easy for us dummies to understand.

<em>He [Paul] wants to protect civil liberties ...

Comment by Constitutionalist</em>

...unless you are an African American. Always keep in mind that Ron Paul wants to repeal the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

I have seen that video of Kucinich. While I find it admirable that he would fill his cabinet with people who disagree with him (as did Lincoln), I think it would be a mistake to pick someone who is such an extremist for Vice President.

I don't understand many of the posts here. Democrats complain about the war but the candidates running voted for it. You guys accuse the Republicans of hatred, bigotry, etc. but obviously don't read your own posts. Personally, I couldn't care less about your party affiliation because that doesn't matter. I believe in ending the war, personally liberties, less taxes, and concentrating on fixing the budget problems the Bush administration created. I want decreased spending and stopping America from policing the world. There is only one candidate, Democrat or Republican with a voting record indicative of these beliefs and it's Ron Paul. The others are flip flopping phonies and their records prove it.

Thank you for covering this.

Ron Paul is trying so hard to stand up for all of us and his message is very important.

If you're a democrat in Michigan please vote for him as they have no chance to get delegates.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/12/01/AR2007120100722.html

He will end the war!
He wants to protect civil liberties and make our country great again.

Just ask Dennis Kucinich:

thank you.
