The Department of Homeland Security will announce today that “driver’s license rules and procedures will be standardized across all 50 states” The new plan is expected to anger many, including states that have to implement the changes and civil rights groups who say “the changes will invade individuals’ privacy.”
Several analysts and former military officials argue that the Iraq surge “may actually have enhanced prospects for a bloodier civil war by effectively permitting the warring sides” — now more segregated than ever — “to re-group and re-arm in anticipation of a new round of bloodletting as U.S. troops withdraw.”

“Presenting a bleak picture of a deteriorating national economy, Ben S. Bernanke, chairman of the Federal Reserve, strongly suggested on Thursday that the Fed would cut interest rates soon, perhaps by a large amount.” “We stand ready to take substantive additional actions,” Bernanke said.

January 11th, 2008 at 9:12 amKucinich asks for New Hampshire recount in the interest of election integrity
DETROIT, MI – Democratic Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich, the most outspoken advocate in the Presidential field and in Congress for election integrity, paper-ballot elections, and campaign finance reform, has sent a letter to the New Hampshire Secretary of State asking for a recount of Tuesday’s election because of “unexplained disparities between hand-counted ballots and machine-counted ballots.â€
He added, “Ever since the 2000 election – and even before – the American people have been losing faith in the belief that their votes were actually counted. This recount isn’t about who won 39% of 36% or even 1%. It’s about establishing whether 100% of the voters had 100% of their votes counted exactly the way they cast them.â€
“…This is not about my candidacy or any other individual candidacy. It is about the integrity of the election process.†No other Democratic candidate, he noted, has stepped forward to question or pursue the claims being made.”
“New Hampshire is in the unique position to address – and, if so determined, rectify – these issues before they escalate into a massive, nationwide suspicion of the process by which Americans elect their President. Based on the controversies surrounding the Presidential elections in 2004 and 2000, New Hampshire is in a prime position to investigate possible irregularities and to issue findings for the benefit of the entire nation,†Kucinich wrote in his letter.
“Without an official recount, the voters of New Hampshire and the rest of the nation will never know whether there are flaws in our electoral system that need to be identified and addressed at this relatively early point in the Presidential nominating process,†said Kucinich

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
You REALLY think a little thing like the Constitution is going to slow them down? After all it’s only a “g*ddamn piece of paper” , isn’t it?
Seriously — even if they COULD get around that pesky amendment and mandate federal laws and standards for driver’s licenses, they should just make licenses to operate vehicles a federal matter and issue national driver’s licenses. AND PAY FOR THEM. It’s unfair to ask all states to comply with new expensive standards if they have to foot the bill.
January 11th, 2008 at 9:21 amSeveral analysts and former military officials argue that the Iraq surge “may actually have enhanced prospects for a bloodier civil war by effectively permitting the warring sides†— now more segregated than ever — “to re-group and re-arm in anticipation of a new round of bloodletting as U.S. troops withdraw.â€
Then there’s all that money we have been paying them to not kill our soldiers. I’m fairly sure much of that money is going to re-arm various factions. Until there is a stable government in Iraq, it will never be a peaceful nation. The surge has failed. It was designed to stabilize the violence to allow the government room to stabilize. All the surge has done is to drive insurgents out of Baghdad into other parts of Iraq. They are not gone, they have just moved and they will move back when it suits them.

The sad thing is that this logic only applies to “we the people”. When it comes to the Bush Crime Family, all bets are off. I wish that the Democratic Party would make this their mantra. January 11th, 2008 at 9:58 amFor anyone who doesn’t know what Real ID is, please read the entire article linked below. Real ID is essentially creating a National ID card. Very scary indeed.
According to the current draft, which is still being hammered out by the Department of Homeland Security (but not up for public debate), anytime a state issues a driver’s license, they will be required to do a background check on that person in conjunction with a national database.
That federal database will be used in conjunction with other national databases to collect information on Americans, ensure that their Social Security number is associated with their driver’s license, and also require each driver’s license to feature an electronic code that allows for quick scanning and retention of information by authorities in real time.

Everybody folds. Next hand, all in again.
Somebody calls. He busts.
So, he buys in again, goes all in again, busts again.
Now, everybody is onto his game and is dying to get a shot at his ass.
Buys in again, all in again, busts again.
And he just keeps on buying in and busting. Buying in and busting..
Then, to everyone’s horror, they realize that this guy has been using THEIR ATM cards to buy in over and over and over again…

“Did you hear about Joe? Man, he pulled a Kucinich…”
Real patriots acting in the best interest of the country are mocked.

January 11th, 2008 at 12:08 pmMorning daryl hows the apologies for totalitarianism going this morning ! Ever read the constitution ? U are the passive one ! You trust big government but your party is supposed to be against big government . Your party is supposed to be for states rights ! You are all for placing dictatorial powers in the hands of a few in the executive branch . Hell you don’t seem at all concerned when signing statements destroy the basis of our democracy . Whats in your dossier ?
Generations of Americans have given their lives for the very rights you advocate our relinquishing , and you consider yourself a patriot ? You want us to leave ?
The basic inalienable rights of Americans shall not be abridged by government , the march towards freedom is relentless and will never be stopped .
Bush’s only success was stealing the elections twice. He managed to that very well. Besides that, it’s all been a six pack of failures. Failed war, failed economy, failed diplomacy, and failed policy. Worshipping Satan truly works for Bush. No matter how bad your performance and policies are, worshipping Satan truly works!! It works wonders for idiot Bush. No wonder people are saying ‘the hell with God! Satan sets you up right!’ You bet! Ultimately the idiot satanic ’skulls and bones’ freak is turning people AWAY from God! God tests people. He has people go through trials and difficult times so that they can grow spiritually. But Satan, no Satan pays cash up front! No matter how bad you screw up!Ask Bush, he knows!
January 11th, 2008 at 1:07 pmThis administration complaining about the opposition using children as props when promoting SCHIP, State Children’s Health Insurance Program, and vetoed it..
Apparently it’s OK to use children as props when you’re promoting World War $$$.

January 11th, 2008 at 1:39 pmKATY, THEY BROKE THE LAW!!!!! SOMETHING MUST BE DONE!!!!! You guys are very passive.
Comment by Daryll — January 11, 2008 @ 11:41 am
Apparently the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is just fine with that, and doesn’t want any state or local municipalities trying to enforce those pesky immigration laws.
As long as the business world wants a steady stream of cheap labor, expect nothing to be done about illegal immigration. They will lobby the heck against any effort to implement any common-sense solutions, such as going after the employers who hire undocumented workers.
I don’t know who the “you guys” is that you find so passive, but it’s not the posters here who are in need of a chiropractor from looking the other way so much.
January 11th, 2008 at 1:44 pmKaty, you do realize you just fed a troll, right?

January 11th, 2008 at 9:32 pmWhat did you miss, Thinkprogress?
How about these:
1. Continued debate about voting irregularities in New Hampshire’s Dem primary. http://www.bradblog.com/?p=5546
2. Dennis Kucinich was invited and then *disinvited* to the Dem debate in Nevada *after* he challenged the NH results. http://tpzoo.wordpress.com/2008/01/12/nbc-un-plugs-kucinich-from-presidential-debate/
What are you? Part of the solution? Or part of the problem?
