"At least 79 weapons caches consisting of over 10,000 rounds of small arms ammunition, over 2,000 heavy machine gun rounds, over 4,000 pounds (some two tonnes) of home-made explosives and around 100 homemade bombs were discovered in the raids, it said in a statement."

Comment by good_golly

Did they state if any were traceable to the thousands of weapons (and tons of ammo) that the defense department says disappeared in Iraq?

That would be good news - of a sort.

First off, kudos to US forces.

But I thought the Army didn’t do bodycounts. Or is that so 2003?

Comment by RickS — January 14, 2008 @ 4:37 pm

Why assume anything they say is true? And why assume that the the dead were Al Qaeda? It says "suspected" militants. Since when are suspects murdered and the murderers praised? Besides in Giuliani's new York, that is? What happened to Americans that the Rule Of Law has been trampled and tossed? is this the inevitable result of awarding the White House to a murderer and sociopath?

My favorite daryll comment of the day:

"I am here trying to inform liberals that liberalism is biblically wrong. There are moral and ethical guidelines that must be followed."

Comment by Daryll — January 14, 2008 @ 10:25 am

Meanwhile Jesus was one of the most liberal of historical figures.

'Liberalism as defined by Webster’s Third New International Dictionary: “a political philosophy based on belief in progress, the essential goodness of man, and the autonomy of the individual and standing for tolerance and freedom for the individual from arbitrary authority in all spheres of life…”'

'Jesus was the ultimate liberal progressive revolutionary of all history.'

'He aligned Himself with the poor and the oppressed. He challenged the religious orthodoxy of His day. He advocated pacifism and loving our enemies. He liberated women and minorities from oppression. He healed on the Sabbath and forgave adulterers and prostitutes. He associated with drunks and other social outcasts. He rebuked the religious right of His day because they embraced the letter of the law instead of the Spirit. He loved sinners and called them to Himself. Jesus was the original Liberal.'

Doesn't sound like Jesus would condone a father torching his daughter (as daryll instructs us) if she turned to prostitution! Sounds like daryll and his church quote Jesus when it suits them and the old testament with that suits them even more!

(the scene: Galilee, circa 30 AD. Jesus is giving the Beatitudes)

"Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

"Blessed are the meek: for they shall posses the land."

"Blessed are they who mourn: for they shall be comforted."

"Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill."

"Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy........"

(then, from the back of the multitude gathered)

Darryll: "Hey, I got one: 'Blessed are the employed, for they won't have to mooch off their friends!' Get a damn haircut and a job, hippie!!!"

“In a closed door hearing scheduled for Wednesday, Congress plans to ask why the CIA destroyed tapes showing interrogations of suspected al-Qaeda operatives. Was it a cover-up?”

You know, if I were a Congressman, I think I'd have to lead off with "Were these tapes destroyed because they showed some illegal activities being done? That's the only rational explanation I could possibly conceive. Hasn't it been a long-held concept of certain people in the White House and their allies in Congress that 'if you have nothing to hide, you shouldn't be afraid'?"

I take your comment to offense. I am here trying to inform liberals that liberalism is biblically wrong. There are moral and ethical guidelines that must be followed.

Comment by Daryll — January 14, 2008 @ 10:25 am

Actually, whether or not you realize it, Daryll, what you are trying to do is convince open-minded, 21st century people that words written thousands of years ago (you like to quote the Old Testament a lot) about how humans should behave, based on an ignorant understanding of the world and its inhabitants (they didn't know that there were people living on this continent back then) should form the moral framework of how we live today. They didn't know what they were talking about back then, and they know even less today.

Listen, I truly believe in the Good Samaritan, but I refuse to help people who continuously make mistakes.

Comment by Daryll — January 14, 2008 @ 10:28 am

Tell us, Daryll, how you know that the man lying on the side of the road has been making the same mistake over and over unless you first go offer to help him? You sound like you want to assume that every poor person, every person who finds himself in distress, is guilty of the repeatedly using bad judgment, and you appear to want to "pre-judge" all of them so that you don't have to help. The Good Samaritan didn't ask questions, he just helped someone in need. Shouldn't you be doing that?

Jesus does not reward constant foolishness.

Then the logical conclusion would be that Jesus will not be rewarding President Bush or Vice President Cheney, will He?

It also appears that you also proceed from the false assumption that to have morals, one must believe God. This is probably one of the most incorrect of your beliefs. But don't worry about me going to Hell. I won't, because it doesn't exist.

I take your comment to offense. I am here trying to inform liberals that liberalism is biblically wrong. There are moral and ethical guidelines that must be followed.

Comment by Daryll — January 14, 2008 @ 10:25 am

Actually, whether or not you realize it, Daryll, what you are trying to do is convince open-minded, 21st century people that words written thousands of years ago (you like to quote the Old Testament a lot) about how humans should behave, based on an ignorant understanding of the world and its inhabitants (they didn’t know that there were people living on this continent back then) should form the moral framework of how we live today. They didn’t know what they were talking about back then, and they know even less today.

You sound like you want to assume that every poor person, every person who finds himself in distress, is guilty of the repeatedly using bad judgment, and you appear to want to “pre-judge” all of them so that you don’t have to help. The Good Samaritan didn’t ask questions, he just helped someone in need. Shouldn’t you be doing that?

Jesus does not reward constant foolishness.

Obscene that any political party cedes to a television network the power to decide who has the right to participate in the political process, and under what terms. All debates should take place on PBS or in some other publically funded venue.

(Maybe MSNBC excluded Kucinich for not providing health care for his staff?)

Americans belonging to both parties say they are more turned on by intelligence than by physical appearance, yet 23 percent of all Republicans and 24 percent of all Democrats would "definitely" or "probably" say yes to a one-night stand in the oval office with a president they found physically and sexually attractive.

If TP had included the part that said "with a president they found physically and sexually attractive", I would not have jumped to the erroneous conclusion that there are Democrats out there who want to have sex with George Bush. Please, TP. Inlcude just a little more accuracy, please? Thank you.

Secure undisclosed location - not commenting on TP these days, too much censorship and obvious agenda.
