36 percent:

People around the world who were not living in freedom in 2007, according to a new survey by Freedom House. Last year was the second consecutive year that the percentage declined, and nearly “four times as many countries showed significant declines during the year as registered improvements.”

  2. RUCerious says:

OK, this all can’t be Bush’s fault, can it?
Oh. It can. He sets such a swell example of spreading freedom with bullets and arms sales.

During Bush’s “Peace Parade” of the ME…..

US threatens war with Iran about speedboat threats in a waterway that is connected with Iran but thousands of miles from the nearest US territory.

Bush states to Olmehrt(sp) that he doesn’t believe the CIA NIE on Iran and thinks differently.

Publicly warns Iran about their nuclear ambitions.

    More people died in Iraq

    More people died in Afghanistan

A surge in Afghanistan is mentioned and readied.

    Aerial bombing in Iraq increase

Bush meets with Saudi royals…..no democracy activists on the agenda.

If that’s his “Peace Parade” just wait for his going out of business extravaganza.

You know what that means, don’t you?

Good news if you are a Lockheed stock owner.

The third part of world human population can be invaded to be freed!!!

  5. Merlin says:

Oh boy! Look at all those countries out there ready to be freed from their dictator. Now that our “Mission” has been “Accomplished” in Iraq we have the time and we have the guns and we are ready to go!

OK! who wants to be next? How about you Iran? Syria? Got some “rag heads” you want water boarded?

Our troops are just itching to get back to work cleaning up the world and making it safe for democracy.

  6. Kibitzer 2006 says:

So how did they count the 300,000,000 US citizens living under the new-and-improved FISA law? What fraction of them are “living in freedom”?

  8. Doc Rock says:

Does that include those in jail in the US?

  9. Rick Tallarigo says:

Just to be clear, it’s a good thing that the percentage of people NOT living in freedom has declined. Is that what you meant to write?

  10. hanshiro says:

We have ballot shenanigans where even the qualified candidates don’t appear.

We have corporations who can arbitrarily exclude qualified candidates from national debates.

We have vote machines that have no guarantees, no paper trail and no verification.

We have fishy election results that are not trusted by the majority.

We have 75% of the US population not being represented.

We have corporations making our air, water and food toxic, and doing it legally through lobbyists and payments under the table to corrupt government officials.

Maybe we need some country to invade us and give us back our freedom…

  11. GSD says:

My feller ‘Murkins, please sign up yer children for the military. We’ve got lots of places to bring freedom and democracy to.
