WTF...<em>"workingest"?!?</em> Just goes to show what happens to the higher brain functions when the heart stops beating and your blood grows as cold as Bachmann's seems to be.

Pity that she clearly didn't put quite as much effort into her studies when she was in school as the people whom she praises are doing now by working two jobs -- because had she done so, she would have known that there's no such word as "workingest".

Here's the link, by the way, to the story about the Dems cutting the corporate tax rate.

Have you ever noticed that the party of no ideas has only one when it comes to everything? Tax cuts for the wealthiest and the elite?

Comment by ucsbclassics53 — January 17, 2008 @ 2:08 pm<em>

I find that interesting, since the Dems also want to cut taxes for the wealthiest in the form of a corporate tax cut.

Frankly, I don't see a lot of fresh policy ideas coming from either side. Hillary dabbled in her baby bonds idea for a bit, but other than that the Democrats have been kind of reticent about creating big changes. Just look at the Social Security debate Barack Obama tried to have.
The only change the Dems seem to want is mandating health care coverage, which seems a little statist to me.</em>

<em>“Further, I don’t think there’s any denying that such a tax cut would help corporations increase their investments and hirings.”

<strong>Or allow them to further off-shore jobs, and fatten their off-shore corporate accounts…

Our corporate tax law hurts our global competitiveness. Companies have an incentive to build offices abroad and hire workers abroad when they account for our terribly high corporate tax rate. The idea is anathema to the left because it assists corporations directly, but you guys fail to understand how it will also help workers and boost the overall American economy.

This is the problem when the majority of those who lead us are the wealthy elite, they and all their friends and colleagues have huge homes, every luxury, and the very best guaranteed retirement plan. Why should they care about the middle class or give a thought to those who live in poverty? And our wealthy ruling elite also have the absolute best healthcare plan, all for free (or nearly free) simply because they govern us, and… well they think they deserve it, anyway it’s law. So why should they really give it one thought. They simply have too much to do helping big corporations maximize the bottom line profits, and finding ways to continue the massive military-industrial complex that has fueled the USA’s economy so successfully since WWII.

First, I have no opinion as I don’t have enough information on the subject. I don’t think it’s intelligent or fair to make a judgment on something you haven’t researched or know anything about. Of course it’s apparent the bias of this website so it will attract an extreme of some sort. However, I think we should all consider our own hypocrisy as well. Some of these comments are simply anger and ignorance mixed with complaining and a need to vent. So watch it when you accuse someone of hate speech because you might be guilty of it yourself, which would make you a hypocrite just like the person you are calling a hypocrite. Thank you #19 for having an opinion with some meat in it, not just disagreeing because you don’t like a person. I appreciate that kind of comment and that is what changes people’s minds, education rather than mindless bitter diatribes with no substance. Just my opinion. I’m sure someone will now make a judgment about me though I have put forth no real opinion and tear me apart. Oh well! Viva America! The beauty of free speech. By the way, I work two jobs and not because the government screwed me over, I made mistakes with my life and my finances and now I have to pay for them, a little personal responsibility goes a long way.

"His legislation — the so-called Middle Class Job Protection Act — does nothing for the middle class. Instead, it reduces the corporate tax rate by 25 percent."

That is a great idea! Nothing would stimulate the economy and create jobs and increase government revenue better than a corporate tax cut. In fact, since the combination of corporate taxes and personal taxes is double taxation maybe we should eliminate corporate taxes. After that, we should do away with the IRS and initiate a national sales tax. Forcing us middle-class people to fill out a form that even trained accountants have problems with is far from fair. I love living in Florida simply because I do not have to fill out two damn income tax forms every year, as I had to do in over taxed, so-called progressive New Jersey, the Garden State.

<em>Wealthy individuals pay far too little taxes. Warren Buffett is right.

Comment by Cosmonaut — January 17, 2008 @ 2:03 am</em>

But Buffett's point is that most of his earnings are gained through capital gains taxes, which are taxed at a lower rate than the income tax. Perhaps the answer is the reduce the income tax on the middle class, then, rather than increase the capital gains tax, which would discourage risk and investment.

"Isn’t this the crazy person that attached herself to Bush after the State of the Union address awhile back?

Comment by gummitch"

The very same. She's also the one who said she had the inside dope about how Iraq would be split up. She messed up the geography and the Shiite - Sunni placment, had several provinces set aside for terrorist traing territories and then demonstated that she was clueless Iran's ethnic and religious content.

It made you fightened that a US Congressperson, serving on committees, debating and voting on legislation was so completely stupid.

"#2 - And didn’t the Dems just rescind the idea of working a 5 day work week for this year? So much for actually working for $160,000 and great benefits.

Which beats the hell out of the Republican's 1 1/2 day work week in the last Congress.

Well, you guys do need a reduction in corporate taxes...the U.S has some of the highest corporate tax rates among the developed nations at 36%.

Ireland lowered their corporate tax rate to 12% and their economy is booming with great jobs, geez, even Canada has a lower corporate tax rate at 32%.

The same applies to many 'socialist' countries like Norway, Sweden and Finland...they all have lower corporate tax rates with higher sales taxes to make up for it.

America is in desperate need of a corporate tax reduction.
