On last night’s O’Reilly Factor, host Bill O’Reilly challenged John Edwards’ claim that 200,000 veterans “will go to sleep under bridges and on grates” because they are homeless. O’Reilly said, “They may be out there, but there’s not many of them out there. Okay? … If you know where’s a veteran, sleeping under a bridge, you call me immediately, and we will make sure that man does not do it.” The Washington Post checked into Edwards’ claim and reported that the Department of Veterans Affairs does indeed report that about 195,000 veterans are “homeless on any given night.”
UPDATE: The Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America have launched a petition to tell Bill he was wrong.
If you know where’s a veteran, sleeping under a bridge, you call me immediately, and we will make sure that man does not do it.â€
translation: We’ll throw him in jail where he belongs….
January 16th, 2008 at 12:46 pmdid BO want just one call about the 195,000 homeless vets, or did he want one call for every 195,000 of them?
January 16th, 2008 at 12:48 pmBill Oreilly is an azz and he need to shut his big mouth. Apparently he’s never been to Washington, DC before and seen all of the homeless veterans who sleep on the mall and in the alleys at night. This guy shoots off his big mouth without all of the facts and expects the idiots who watch his show to believe what ever he says. For the most part am sure they do. If the Washington post says that there are 195,000 homeless Vets, then apparently he doesn’t think that number is distrubing. This jerk sits in his big office but he lives in a small small world of fools who enjoy the freedom we vets provided him and looks the other way when we need help. Anyone who defends this idiot’s view is a small person too and will like him pay the ultimate price come judgement day.

they know….they’re just traitors to America.
January 16th, 2008 at 12:51 pm“…we will make sure that man does not do it.”
Like homeless veterans choose to live under bridges. Like they are somehow to blame and they should simply “not do it”.
January 16th, 2008 at 12:52 pmI started to hunt down any list to attach but it’s 58 pages long so I will have to settle with sending this to BO.
http://www1.va.gov/homeless/docs/HCHV_Sites_ByState.pdf
The Dept. of Veterans affairs created this list.
January 16th, 2008 at 12:54 pmOf course, once he gets called on it, Bill O will start parsing words and arguing semantics. “Clearly this man, while homeless and a vet, wasn’t actually sleeping under a bridge – he was sleeping under an overpass.”
January 16th, 2008 at 12:56 pmpicking on wingers is too easy………
January 16th, 2008 at 12:59 pmHellinabucket, I appreciate your effort, but if you think any of O’Lielly’s staff is going to hand him this list, you’re going to be disappointed. O’Lielly is a bully, a propagandist and a liar. Any staffer brave enough to hand him your email will be fired. O’Lielly doesn’t care. That’s what makes his fawning, slimy fans so pathetic.
January 16th, 2008 at 12:59 pmShhhhh…..it’s very important that Mr O’Reilly’s delicate bubble of fantasy not be burst.
There just isn’t enough medication on the planet for him to deal with reality…
January 16th, 2008 at 1:00 pmBillo’s an expert.
January 16th, 2008 at 1:01 pmExperts agree! Everything’s wonderful!
Bartlebee, that’s a damn good idea. If someone could publish O’Rielly’s address and distribute it throughout homeless centers across America, they could go there in mass and really create a scene. Unfortunately, these people have a full-time job just staying alive, so it’s unreasonable to expect any kind of political action from them.
January 16th, 2008 at 1:02 pmWhat’s he going to do? Give them a loofa and a cot?
January 16th, 2008 at 1:03 pmI don’t expect one single slug at BO’s bully pit to do anything with it. I just wanted to send it.
January 16th, 2008 at 1:03 pmBO – perfect initials for him.
January 16th, 2008 at 1:04 pmWho is this “we” that O’Reilly speaks of? Is it a royal “we”? And, assuming that any of his listeners give him specific examples of veterans sleeping outdoors because they are homeless, what does O’Reilly propose to do to “make sure they don’t do it”?
Sleepover at O’Reilly’s place?
January 16th, 2008 at 1:04 pmBill’s probably right. Some of those homeless veterans are sleeping in alleys or in shelters or on park benches. It’s just wrong to say they’re all sleeping under bridges or on grates.
See, you have to keep this all IN CONTEXT. Unless you listen to BillO every day, you don’t understand what he’s really saying, you just think you do because you heard his words. It’s the same with Rush; if you don’t listen to him every day, year after year, you won’t understand what he’s actually saying and you’ll make the mistake of thinking that a few sentences he’s uttered should be taken literally. There, like, parables. That’s it, parables. They’re both like Jesus.
January 16th, 2008 at 1:05 pmHellinabucket, I appreciate your effort, but if you think any of O’Lielly’s staff is going to hand him this list, you’re going to be disappointed. O’Lielly is a bully, a propagandist and a liar. Any staffer brave enough to hand him your email will be fired. O’Lielly doesn’t care. That’s what makes his fawning, slimy fans so pathetic.
Comment by Ret. Col. Jack Ripper
I understand why you would want to send it too but I agree with jack. This is the message they want to put out there….doesn’t have anything to do with reality except the poor dumb people who listen to this idiot will believe it…..
January 16th, 2008 at 1:07 pmwhy don’t we ask Michelle Malkin to publish Bill-o’s address? She’s good at that…
January 16th, 2008 at 1:07 pmMy dad goes weak in the knees over his hero Billo — but he’s also a Vietnam vet.
I sent him the links in this story, and hellinbucket’s link. I know he’ll read them — he reads everything. I hope it makes a difference.
I’ve been sending him links to refute Billo’s crap for about a month, but haven’t heard anything about it from him. We’ll see…
January 16th, 2008 at 1:08 pmHere’s my email:
In case you are interested there are offices all over the country that have the records and numbers of homeless vets. Here’s the list: http://www1.va.gov/homeless/docs/HCHV_Sites_ByState.pdf
Give them a call and make arrangements for Mr. O’Reilly recant his statement.
Just because the ignorant don’t listen does not hamper my decision to speakout.
January 16th, 2008 at 1:08 pmThe Falafel Sexual Predator Bill 0(IQ) can say anything ridiculous that he wants and his 32%ers will eat it up, they are so full of hate for anything that sensible thinking people stand for that they are destroying America with their insane ChristoFascist agenda. I do so hate them for their stupidity, and the same goes for the vile scum trolls on this site.
Buck Fush
January 16th, 2008 at 1:08 pmGood for you Zooey.
January 16th, 2008 at 1:09 pmIf the estimates by government offices follow their regular trend, the number is greatly underestimated. Like battlefield deaths and wounded statistics.
January 16th, 2008 at 1:09 pmThis is another example of a favorite right-wing approach to statistics: if they don’t say what you want them to say, simply dispute the figures without any hard evidence at all.
Once when I was having a discussion about health coverage and I mentioned “45 million uninsured”, he disputed that and said it was probably no more than 5 million, because 45 million “seemed way too high”. I asked him where he got his figure, and sent him a link to the US Census bureau website, which backed up my figure.
I never got a reply from him on that subject.
January 16th, 2008 at 1:09 pmBO – perfect initials for him.

good for you hellina…..I truly admire that. Remember in the 60’s we had to take to the streets….get arrested…you know the drill….If we don’t get some relief soon it will start all over….
January 16th, 2008 at 1:11 pmO’Reilly gonna have ‘em arrested? Let’s put him out on a grate in Boston in February along with Glenn Beck and Chris Hardball!
My brother, a Vietnam Veteran, who is in a VA therapy group for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), informs me that members of his group who meet and welcome back returning Iraq vets are reporting that SOME vets who have lost limbs are NOT being provided with prostheses! (Hearsay, but . . . ?)
January 16th, 2008 at 1:12 pmIf you know where’s a veteran, sleeping under a bridge, you call me immediately, and we will make sure that man does not do it.â€
Yep, Bill will send his camera man to chase the veteran out from under that bridge. O’Reilly’s compassion is overwhelming, wouldn’t you say?
January 16th, 2008 at 1:13 pmNOT!
Doc Rock, they probably came home from their tours two days early. “No legs for you!”
January 16th, 2008 at 1:13 pmGood for you Zooey.

Good for YOU, hellinabucket! Thanks for the link. I’m careful not to send him anything from TP, Media Matters, or any other “hateful” liberal blog, so your link is excellent for my deprogramming efforts. ;)

I’m sure there are many of us who would take that veteran’s picture and military info and show up at Bill’s with it. And we’re probably angrier about his mouth. The veteran’s as you said have more important things to worry about, like survival.
January 16th, 2008 at 1:22 pmHey, we should start sending lists of names of homeless vets to Mr. O’Really and copying Keith Olberman who might be interesting in following up to find out what actions have be taken.
January 16th, 2008 at 1:26 pmWhere are all of the flag waing veteran loving trolls when there is work to be done….oh yeah, that’s real work and they would have to actually do something besides try to defend billy
January 16th, 2008 at 1:32 pm“If you know where’s a veteran, sleeping under a bridge, you call me immediately, and we will make sure that man does not do it.â€
Translation: “We will send our minions to their location and harass them to stay out of the public eye, which any self-respecting homeless person would do.”
January 16th, 2008 at 1:34 pmThere were a couple of homeless veterans sleeping under a bridge near Billo’s house so he had them “removed” after all he has to keep his property value up. Besides he didn’t pay taxes to build bridges so these non taxpayers could use them for shelter. If sleeping out under the stars was good enough for the veterans during the war, why do they need a bridge now?
January 16th, 2008 at 1:34 pmcheck IAVA soon, for a website devoted exclusevely to this issue…
just heard on schultz… he’s getting a lot of calls also…
Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America http://iava.org/
January 16th, 2008 at 1:37 pm“O’Reilly: ‘There’s not many’ homeless veterans”
Falafel Factor = Lost in Translation.
BillO really scraping at the bottom for news if you believe his crapola spin on how there not so many homeless vets in this country.
January 16th, 2008 at 1:38 pmI’d like to see BO (along with everyone in the Nazi Chimp’s admin, Ann Coulter and every other Pseudo journalist) in orange jumpsuits with the latest of accessories (to the crime) : new sparkling shackles.
January 16th, 2008 at 1:41 pmstewarjt: “What’s he going to do? Give them a loofa and a cot?”
He could stop lying to his moronic fans about the issue. I’d be satisfied with that.
January 16th, 2008 at 1:43 pmBO=moron
January 16th, 2008 at 1:44 pmLet’s have Faux Snooze buy each and every homeless vet a cell phone, so they can call up O’Biley every night.
January 16th, 2008 at 2:18 pmIt shouldn’t cost much, right?
Let’s see what happens when the first Black vets goes to BO for help. Remember he didn’t think Blacks lived in New York, he might not know there are alot of minorities in the US Military. Billy O never served in the US Military let others who are talking so all this will be new to them. Interesting that those immigrants being tested for US Citizenship know more about the US History and current events then the American reporters.
January 16th, 2008 at 2:42 pmHe don’t have to do research, he’s on FAUX.
January 16th, 2008 at 2:53 pmI’ve Got a better Idea; From his website:
Call Bill O’Reilly or The O’Reilly Factor
If want to call Bill O’Reilly, the producers of The O’Reilly Factor or The Radio Factor or the Fox News Channel, the number is 1-888-369-4762. You can also visit the online at http://www.foxnews.com for more assistance.
BillOReilly.com does not handle correspondence to The O’Reilly Factor, The Radio Factor or the Fox News Channel.
Lets all call and give them the names on the VA List?
January 16th, 2008 at 3:15 pmBilo’s fans must be the most ignorant people. Pick up a paper, listen to something other than Faux news…visit a VA hospital or just talk with friends. We have friends dealing with their veteran son right now. He has nightmares, loud noises totally unglue him. The physical problems are healing but how long for the mental problems watching his buddies die day after day.
January 16th, 2008 at 3:20 pmSo, what are you going to do for them, Bill? Give them job training? Create jobs for them? Give them free housing? Sounds exactly like socialism to me, Bill. Aren’t people like this supposed to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps? That’s what capitalism says.
How come I constantly see ads on tv saying that you should join the military because you will learn a job and become a far better person? Aren’t there laws about truth in advertising? They should show the 195,000 homeless vets.
January 16th, 2008 at 3:40 pmYou just have to wonder if people like Bilo really think this way or are just mouths for their employer.
January 16th, 2008 at 3:42 pmHe can contact any veteran’s hospital, organization or homeless shelter and ask them about homeless veterans.
January 16th, 2008 at 4:22 pmIgnoramuses like O’Reilly live in an elite bubble – totally out of touch with the rest of the country.
If you want to see a documentary about homeless veterans in America – including those who have just returned from combat in Iraq – check out:
http://www.whenicamehome.com
We need to boycott his commercial sponsors until he admits he’s wrong and apologizes to all veterans. These are the some companies that are paying him to flap his lips and say ridiculous things like homeless veterans don’t exist:
Citrical, Capitol One, Servepro, Cisco, Volvo, Lending Tree, CVS, Lincoln, Web MD, Centrum, Mercedes, time Warner, Nissan, Florida Orange Juice, Nutrisystem, Chevy, Waste Management, Pampers, Cherios, Merrill Lynch, Ameriprise financial, Hertz, Visine, Slomin’s Sheild, Cabot Chees, Hotels.com, AMC, Yellow Book, Dell, and many more……
I’ll be posting an official boycott petition ASAP.
Support the Vets!
