i think more needs to said about this guy’s career of shutting down jobs…

Comment by katy — January 17, 2008 @ 11:33 am

Amen. If I'm not mistaken (not an impossibility) I believe his vaunted "success" in business goes like this: Become CEO of a company in financial trouble; "reorganize the company" (i.e., eliminate jobs and lay off thousands of workers), proclaim the company a success and become rich; rinse and repeat.

Face it, folks, Mitt didn't get his hundreds of millions by "looking out for the working man." His record of corporate takeovers and wholesale layoffs needs to be fully exposed, and there is no person better qualified to do this than John Edwards.

Fred Thompson & Rebuilding the military:

Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson emphasized his plans for national security Monday as he continued campaigning in South Carolina, a state he has said is critical for his White House bid.

The former Tennessee senator and actor said the U.S. must rebuild its military. He will sit down with congressional leaders, but if that doesn’t work Thompson said he’ll simply go over their heads and campaign to the public.

Retired U.S. Army Gen. Tommy Franks, who led the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, was paid $100,000 to endorse a veterans charity that watchdog groups say is ripping off donors and wounded veterans by using only a small portion of the money raised for veterans services, according to testimony in Congress today.
...
Chapin testified he approached Gen. Franks in 2005, and he agreed to let his signature be used on mass mailings seeking contributions to his charities.
"He helped us raise millions and millions of dollars more than we would have," Chapin told the hearing, chaired by Congressman Henry Waxman, D- Calif.
Congressman Waxman said Gen. Franks had since disassociated himself from Chapin's charities and asked that his name be removed from the solicitation.

My question to Franks would be: "Why did you accept $100,000 from a charity? If you believed in its cause, why didn't you "donate" your name?

CIA official Jose A. Rodriguez Jr “ordered the destruction of videotapes depicting agency interrogation sessions even though he was directed not to do so.” Rodriguez was previously said to never have been “instructed to preserve them.”

Obviously he will now face charges, be indicted, go to jail, and then be pardoned...and probably have a hefty profit or job opportunity in the near future as a reward for being the fall guy.

This is the era of corruption...which they call morality.

Never left, I visit daily. I just don't always have time to comment. Current client is a little slow on getting stuff together for me, so I have some time to actually type.

Could somebody explain how permanent tax cuts qualify as a stimulus package? And how keeping in place tax cuts we already have is going to turn things around?

The lending crisis that is bringing on the recession is caused by one thing and one thing only: middle class people being unable to pay their mortgages. That's what's causing billions of dollars in writedowns at all the major banks.
So of COURSE the Republicans' idea is to give money to the RICH!

Goldberg showed what a complete fool he is - Stewart handed him his a$$. Goldberg's mother is the one who was a confidante of Linda Tripp. That tells me that the unethical fruit doesn't fall far from the unethical tree.
