George Allen’s court nominee withdraws name.

In September, President Bush nominated E. Duncan Getchell, Jr. for a seat on the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Virginia. On Thursday, Getchell wrote a letter withdrawing his name from consideration and blaming the “Senate Democratic leadership.” Virginia Senators Jim Webb (D) and John Warner (R) criticized Getchell’s nomination, noting that he was not on their list of candidates, but on an outdated list created former senator George Allen.

    Aww, don’t sweat it, Getchell, you can skip the judge business, and go straight to the lobbyist company.

    Sorry to go off-topic, but there’s no Thinkfast thread today.

    From Raw Story:

    Rivals blast Obama’s praise for Reagan

    Edwards, Clinton Critical of Obama’s Recent Praise for GOP and Reagan

    John Edwards and Hillary Rodham Clinton criticized Barack Obama’s praise of the Republican Party and Ronald Reagan — an anathema for many Democrats, particularly union members considered crucial to winning Nevada’s Democratic caucuses Saturday.

    Obama responded by suggesting Clinton would be a “president whose plans change with the politics of the moment” — one of his most direct critiques of the New York senator yet.

    The intensity reflects what polls suggest could be a tight contest Saturday as Nevada plays its most prominent role ever in a presidential nominating campaign. Nevada was granted a coveted spot right after Iowa and New Hampshire in an attempt to bring more racial and geographic diversity into the selection.

    [. . .]

    Edwards questioned Obama’s commitment to labor in his final appeal to Nevada voters — a rally with about 100 of his precinct captains in Las Vegas.

    “Ronald Reagan, the man who busted unions, the man who did everything in his power to destroy the organized labor movement, the man who created a tax structure that favored the richest Americans against middle class and working families, … we know that Ronald Reagan is not an example of change for a presidential candidate running in the Democratic Party,” Edwards said.

    Reagan also “was destructive to the environment by removing a lot of the regulation that existed,” Edwards added in a later telephone interview with The Associated Press. “I would never use Ronald Reagan as an example of change.”

    Obama told the Reno Gazette-Journal editorial board Monday that “Reagan changed the trajectory of America in a way that Richard Nixon did not and in a way that Bill Clinton did not. He put us on a fundamentally different path because the country was ready for it,” Obama said.

    “I think it’s fair to say that the Republicans were the party of ideas for a pretty long chunk of time there over the last 10 to 15 years in the sense that they were challenging conventional wisdom,” Obama told the newspaper.

    What was Obama thinking? He’s praising Reagan’s political prowess, without informing his audience of the consequences of Reagan’s “new trajectory.

    Wow, maybe this is whats wrong. John Warner is really secretly the “Senate Democratic leader.”

    That would explain alot.

    that’s true, but what obama said was true also…
    he just didn’t – for some inexplicable reason – make it sound negative…
    i dunno… pandering doesn’t quite fit his style, but it seems to fit here…
    too bad…

    The hell with the Oba-illary msm dreamteam candidates, vote Edwards or at least another candidate to break the obvious election rigging.

    Demand equal voice for all candidates. We as Americans deserve to hear from all sides, not what the media force feeds us into days world.

    This entire election run down is just that….The Dem. party has turned into a party that not only doe’s not listen to it’s voter’s it eat’s it;s own..I am sick to death of the entire lot that are now running…..We should put them all on a bus with the Rep.s and run them out of town for not standig up for Kucinich, Richardson, Gavel’s right to debate…..Pissonya…None are answering our call to answer the tough question’s and none are worthy of my vote…As much as I liked them all in the past they now sound like rep. lite…

  10. Marcus Aurelius says:

    A vote for Clinton or Obama is a vote for the status quo (Edwards is getting damn close to joining that club, Kucinich is the visionary outsider). Think Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid: that’s what Clinton or Obama will give you – more of the same.

    We need to break the backs of the powers that be – Democrat and Republican. The electorate needs to send a clear message. No half-assed, whiny bullshit.

    I don’t see Oba-illary address the issues, they are too busy trying to undermine each other with cheap “dirty trick” crap. And the media is reporting that to the exclusion of almost everything else.

    We don’t get to hear from all of the candidates. They get excluded by the media before the first vote is even cast.

    If we do not break this, our Democracy is Dead.

    Oh, the public will not elect a Republican this time, things are just too messed up. That is why the Corporate Media has been rigging the Democratic side, eliminating the voices of those who would actually change things and buck the status quo.

  15. Witch1 says:

    I agree Wayne and would bet there are a lot of us out here with the same view…The vote for the party no matter what has lost it’s luster and bravado…Those of us that for 40 plus year’s have done our part and worked for the Dem’s only to find they not only don’t listen to we the voter’s they don’t do what is good for our country, only their own self intrest’s….There is no loyalty, no honor of country and no moral fiber or back bone….I’m going for the write in and turning away from the bull shit of the media and cannibal dem’s….Blessings

  16. 99Luf Balloons says:

    #18, I’m not a Hillery hater…I have been a bleeding heart libral Dem. all my life..Been in the trenche’s since JFK…Held the party line vote for who ever was nominated, like it or not….Look what that has got us…Representative’s that not only don’t listen to us but are enabeler’s to the rep’s..They are so against us they (Palosi &Reid) should be kicked out for what they knew and when they knew and allowed to happen wire tapping and water boarding among other thing’s…

    I am against Hillery and Obama for the same reason, their pocket’s are full of corprate funding, they are not addressing the real problem’s of our country and will continue the status quo….You vote as you choose and I will write in the only candidate that deserves my vote….None of the top 3 qualify right now and we are still 10 month’s out…Blessings

  20. Fred says:

    I will vote for any democrat that gets the nomination…..my opinion only but I believe your write in votes amount to a vote for nader….I would gladly go back to the Bill Clinton era although it’s not everything I want to see…..it’s not anything like what we have now is it.

  21. Fred says:

    how do you think the repubs win every time(aside from cheating)…..they stick together and vote the party line…..

  22. Witch1 says:

    Do as you choose Fred…..I have done that for 47 year’s and guess what? Now it seem’s we have traitor’s in the Dem. party….No longer doe’s the voter count…Queen Palosi took impeachment off the table, Palosi knew about wiretapping long before 9/11 Reid has a rubber band for a back bone, the entire dem bunch for the most part drag their feet and send letter’s..They don’t want to fight for us and our country.. All the dem’s want to do is status quo, keep the fund’s filling all politician’s pocket’s…Not me….It’s got to stop and now is the time to stop it….Blessings

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Dear Witch,
    You must think that America is still a democracy. That died in 1980 when Ronald Reagan gave unlimited power to corporations. You can waste your vote on write in candidates if you like. That’s your choice. But that’s exactly what George Bush and Karl Rove would like you to do.
    Remember, George Bush and the Republican Party financed Ralph Nader’s campaign in the year 2000 and 2004. Sigh…….
    Ole George (Ma-ca-ca) Allen just wanted to make sure that his friend who holds the same beliefs he does gets a fair hearing. The fact that Sen. Warner opposes this guy is proof that Warner is really a liberal democrat in drag. The same Sen. Warner who votes 100 percent with the President and his party, is really a closet liberal. He wouldn’t oppose this guy because he’s some kind of racist, who hates blacks, jews, women, and anyone who isnt’ white. Or the fact that this guy opposes the constitution the way it’s currently written. He wants to change is so blacks become 2/3rd of a human again and aren’t free to run for President. He also wants to stop all of those mexican from taking good job from white people. If this guy had his way American would be a 100 percent white God fearing, minority hating, world dominating country.
