Romney insists he has never ‘lost his cool’ with a reporter.
Last night, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney broke a WGA picket line and appeared on The Tonight Show. Jay Leno asked Romney, “Have you ever lost your cool? Have you ever just exploded at a guy?” Romney replied, “Absolutely, but not a reporter,” adding that he has nothing but “respect” for them. A look at what Romney and his campaign consider “respect” for the press:

January 19th, 2008 at 3:35 pmI saw a very agressive reporter pressing him over and over trying to back him into a corner. I think the reporter was just doing his job, and was probably right, but he also was very agressive, and Romney smiled, was polite, calm and courteous.
I think TP owes Romney an apology on this one.

You are right, Romney did not lose his cool in that situation. The OTHER people around him (potentially on his staff) sure did. The old woman calling the reporter names, saying he was ugly and overly confrontational?
It is the JOB of the press to be confrontational. The problem today is that too many members of the press are not confrontational ENOUGH. The reporter was right, Romney was attempting to move the goalposts and change the frame in mid-sentence. Romney stated, “I don’t have lobbyists running my campaign. I don’t have lobbyists tied to my…” and was immediately confronted on such a falsehood. He instantly shifted the framing to make it appear that he ONLY said “running my campaign”, when in fact he also included “involved in.”.
He was busted, dead to rights.
He did not, however, come close to losing his cool.

But even that isn’t really reflective of the video, because Romney and his staff treated the reporter with a modicum of respect.
What they DIDN’T respect was the truth. If the AP reporter had allowed Romney to finish his sentence, I think he could have caught him in a lie, because it sounded like Mittens was abut to say, “I don’t have lobbyists tied to my campaign“. Glen Johnson jumped the gun and allowed Romney the wiggle room to backtrack and cling to his “I don’t have lobbyists runnng my campaign” floatation device.
I mean, come on, why does a staffer (or “unpaid advisor”) have to “attend senior strategy meetings” in order to be considered part of a campaign?
Because that’s the only way that Mittens can skate out from under the snow cave of lies that was about to collapse on top of him.

Umm. Bart’s point that TPs headline should change is valid. It should change from, “Romney insists he has never ‘lost his cool’ with a reporter” to, “Romney caught on tape LYING about lobbyists in his campaign.”
Romney certainly didn’t lose his cool. Rather, he coolly and calmly LIED, stating, “I don’t have lobbyists tied to my [campaign].” He was called out by a reporter who was actually doing his job.
Bartlebee is 100% correct about TP needing to change the title of this thread. Bart is not, however, saying what you seem to be implying. Bart seems to recognize the truth: Mitt Romney was caught, on film, LYING to the press, and was called on it.

The TP thread is about Romney’s lack of respect for the media and the video (apparently since I can’t see it with my dial-up) demonstrates Romney ignoring the reporter, a form of disrespect for the media. The TP headline is a truth in that it stems from the talk with Leno, although it is a very poor choice for a headline given the rest of what TP presents.
Second, I find the posts by Bartlebee be a hundred times more disrespectful. He made a legitimate point to be considered, but who would want to consider it when it is couched in such arrogant, demeaning, tyranical, unappealing, disrespectful packaging?

I, unlike you, use words with some precision, and “implied” means something different than “stated”. I have never said the article didn’t imply your contention. I said IT DID NOT SPELL IT OUT, as you yourself admit.

In my original post (in which I agreed with you) I pointed out that the headline was misleading. I said “mistake”. I should have said misleading, because the implication was misleading. But in that same post, Bart, I continued and pointed out that the article itself did not say that Romney lost his cool.

I still disagree with you as I suspect the author would too. I still haven’t “attacked” or “smeared” anyone. My only “beef” with you is your insistent attacks on all who express an opinion you don’t share due to your bizarre insistence that we are all in league because of a past argument.
Also, Faiz said he “tends to agree with you” and would discuss the story with the author. Not quite justification for your behavior. I would be willing to bet that the author will make the same points I did, and, possibly Faiz will concur. That, of course, is up to him and I will respect his decision should he change the story. BTW, If one googles “Romney loses cool” there are a number of stories out there which reflect my opinion, and a few that don’t. Many people share my opinion, and many don’t. Necessary? Perhaps not. Yet, as one of “MARTYRBEE’s” targets, I think it’s justified. I have zero tolerance for someone who calls others liars, and much worse, for taking a contrary position on a subject which is in dispute.

You know. It’s actually a bit sad. If “MARTYBEE†had been able to distinguish between disagreement and “attacksâ€, he’s not too bad. But, he’s got problems. And he lies. And he spams. And denies the very existence of contrary opinions. And he even turns on people who try to agree with him.

Hello yourself Pete. Much calmer discussion here it seems….thanks for taking a lead in resoving it. I honestly have never seen anything like what happened here and I agree that bart probably is in need of counciling at the very least.
Not too hard to stay cool once you realize that somone is literally round the bend but then what to do becomes the issue. Glad TP finally took a look. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a hard decision that something had to be done.

Thanx, but, I don’t think I “took the lead”. I just saw an opportunity to give things a little push. I don’t think it would have worked without the calm approach displayed by you and a few others. Otherwise the complaint about baseless insults would not have held water.

I never wanted to see Bart gone. While I disagreed with him, I think he had the “right” to post whatever crazy talk he wanted to. I didn’t complain to Faiz. I didn’t e-mail TP. I think its ironic he’s gone (it was his own doing) but I’m not taking credit for it.
As for the Huckabee post, Bart was right about one thing. I said I wouldn’t let him get the last word. Well I got lazy and didn’t post for a day or two and that bastard DID get the last word, thereby proving me wrong. I think it is only comic irony that since HE quit, and he took all of his posts with him, HE gave me the last word.
So, for the record, I wasn’t taking a parting shot at him.

I did. Disagreement and trollish insults are one thing, but, out and out slander is quite different. Argue all you wish, but, unjustly calling someone a “liar” for holding a contrary opinion is inexcusable. I was able to live with him slandering me and was content to avoid TP comments. However, when he was mentioned on another site doing the same thing again with a fresh set of victims? I had no hesitation “dropping a dime on him” so to speak. And, if he returns to pull the same crap? I’ll do it again. And again.

Bart totally derailed this thread and slandered most of the people here…..complaints to TP did not include requests to ban him…at least I didn’t and when TP approached Bart and requested that he tone it down he refused and so that’s how that went. I would do it again. There is really no excuse for any blog or discussion group allowing that kind of behavior and I am appalled that the trolls have almost free reighn here.
I too believe that bart needs some serious mental health assistance and I don’t believe what was going on here (apparently on multiple occations)was beneficial for him in any way. I think it nearly destroys him. That in itself is enough reason in my opinion to put a stop to it. So, bottom line, if you really cared abut Bartlebee you would have wanted to end this for Barts sake.

It is totally irrelivant whether bart was banned or left on his own. The quote at the beginning of this post says it all for me. Bart is in need of medical care Holly and if you are not Bart and you know him in real life then I reccommend that you do all you can to help Bart get the help he desperatly needs.

The premise that Romney getting CAUGHT lying was the same thing as him losing his cool borders on the riddiculous and shows some of you are grasping at straws, getting caught lying is no more losing your cool thasn getting caught speeding or soliciting a prostitute is and its slimy and misleading to imply otherwise.
Also saying something misleading about Romney on a liberal site does nothing to hurt Romney since the vast majority of left wingers who frequent this site would never vote for Romney anyway and the few Right Wingers that do visit here would never be influenced by that anyway. however while dishonesty like that wont serve to hurt Romney it can serve to hurt the credibility of TP and other left wing sites………..we SHOULDNT try and imitate Fox News or Karl Rove we should strive to be better than them and to be the side of truth, facts and integrity, rather than lies and slimy deceptions. Sure you might quibble that the article title was “Romney insists he never lost his cool”……..but thats misleading because he clearly didnt lose his cool he got caught spinning and or lying about an uncomfortable premise that clearly undermines his position and campaign.
