That’s exactly what’s wrong with this country. Knowing exactly what he’s doing to this country, and knowing full well what else he’s capable of doing in 365 more days, the once greatest country in the world will not remove the mad man from office.
I will believe it when I see it. I put nothing past Bush/Cheney to hang on to power, including the creation of a reason to invoke marshall law and cancel the election. I would SO love to be wrong about this, but we must never underestimate them. NEVER.
If they are not held accountable, they will forever be a black force to be reckoned with, just as Cheney/Rumsfelt/&CO reappeared to create havoc despite their presumed demise after the Ford years.

Somehow, someway, Bush and all the major lawbreakers have to be held accountable. The law either stands for everyone, or it doesn’t stand for anyone. These guys can be charged with any number of crimes, and as the recession deepens and people begin to tie the Occupation with the recession, there may very well be angry, angry people calling for an end to the Occupation, and hopefully, demanding justice for the diasters these amoral a**holes have created. It’s only right they should pay for their crimes.

In my optimistic view, nothing will happen to derail the change in government direction during 2008, in spite of all the doom sayers here carrying signs that say “the world is going to end.”
I agree that this is a dangerous time for us all. If we get through the next year and get rid of bush the whole world will rejoice with us…We can restore dignity to our nation…..

I’m fairly new here so I’ve been giving some thought as to why these trolls exist….what is the makeup of a troll? I think now that most of them are people who basically hate themselves and are driven by a need to make others feel bad about themselves.
I have seen several posts that refer to paid trolls and probably they do exist but most of what I see from them seems to come from some something inside of them….something missing or a dark side. I doubt that they are very happy people…
With the hawks in this administration still calling for a strike against Iran, I believe anything is still possible.
Even if they don’t, the mess that they will leave behind is more than enough to keep future administrations busy for years to come.

No, Merlin, I have great hope and I’m not paranoid. I’m just one of those who wasn’t skeptical enough early enough. I’ve been surprised too often, thinking they wouldn’t really do this or that, plus I’m from Wyoming where Cheney still ranks as a god with many.
When Bush/Cheney goes out the door, I believe the collective sigh of relief around the world will be tangible.

Well. There you run into the whole “willingness to admit a problem” and treat it dilemma. Unfortunately, immature personalities seldom admit their faults, even to themselves. The only “cures” come from positive life experience and having an open mind. Then there’s the whole “compartmentalized thinking” issue among “authoritarians”.

If history has shown us one thing about Bush, it’s that he thinks of himself first. In that light, there are many things that Bush will countenance — but not a slur on his “good” name. To him, Iraq might evetually pan out. But he doesn’t want his grandchildren being taught how badly the government was run on his watch. Regardless of how badly it actually was operated and overseen, if he can generate one positive act at the end of his administration, he can leave town with at least the slight hope of eventual historical vindication - and something to finally brag about.

That’s a lie. JP said he couldn’t remember his own sign on name, and chose another one. He said he thought people might not have liked him, but that wasn’t the reason he switched. And after he showed up as Sabyen91, he told me almost immediately who he was.

I’m fairly new here so I’ve been giving some thought as to why these trolls exist….what is the makeup of a troll? I think now that most of them are people who basically hate themselves and are driven by a need to make others feel bad about themselves.
I have seen several posts that refer to paid trolls and probably they do exist but most of what I see from them seems to come from some something inside of them….something missing or a dark side. I doubt that they are very happy people…

I’ve been giving some thought as to why these trolls exist….what is the makeup of a troll?
From Wiki:
An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, with the intention of baiting other users into an emotional response.
Emphasis is mine.
IMO. You can only win with a troll by
1. ignoring it
2. Not getting emotionally involved and playing with it (if you have nothing better to do with your time.)
Any other way and you lose!

My guess is that most are just immature little vandals. Before the internet they would have been egging houses, making crank calls, breaking windows, and trenching yards.
That’s about it. Stunted personalities with a sick need to ridicule all that’s beyond their comprehension. The intelligent exchange of ideas serves only to highlight their flaws so they seek to disrupt it. Sad huh?

Paranoia is a good thing, I agree. We need to be very alert and ready to react immediately. However, the way you put it here, sounds more like resigned fear. You’ve accepted “the inevitable†and are scared to death about it. Am I wrong?
No, Merlin, I have great hope and I’m not paranoid. I’m just one of those who wasn’t skeptical enough early enough. I’ve been surprised too often, thinking they wouldn’t really do this or that, plus I’m from Wyoming where Cheney still ranks as a god with many.
When Bush/Cheney goes out the door, I believe the collective sigh of relief around the world will be tangible.

Well. There you run into the whole “willingness to admit a problem” and treat it dilemma. Unfortunately, immature personalities seldom admit their faults, even to themselves. The only “cures” come from positive life experience and having an open mind. Then there’s the whole “compartmentalized thinking” issue among “authoritarians”.
BTW, here’s a great read which pretty much explains the whole mindset, and motivation, of “authoritarians”. It’s rather long but well worth it.

If history has shown us one thing about Bush, it’s that he thinks of himself first. In that light, there are many things that Bush will countenance — but not a slur on his “good” name. To him, Iraq might evetually pan out. But he doesn’t want his grandchildren being taught how badly the government was run on his watch. Regardless of how badly it actually was operated and overseen, if he can generate one positive act at the end of his administration, he can leave town with at least the slight hope of eventual historical vindication - and something to finally brag about.
Right now, he’s got nothing.
