“If we fail to take action to either impeach or repair the damage, then the next president will ‘inherit’ unchecked powers. Unchecked powers are unacceptable no matter who is president.”
UPDATE: “Nine out of 23 Democratic members of the House Judiciary Committee favor starting impeachment hearings against Vice-President Dick Cheney. Six of the nine are co-sponsors of H.R. 799, which contains three articles of impeachment,” according to CounterPunch.
"Unchecked powers are unacceptable no matter who is president."

And come November, when a Democrat is elected, I predict a lot of Republicans will agree.
January 22nd, 2008 at 2:24 pmno duh?
January 22nd, 2008 at 2:24 pmYeah Tammy - you go girl. Now go out there and bit(h slap Nancy Pelosi for all of us. We will be behind you all the way.
January 22nd, 2008 at 2:31 pmWe all know impeachment isn't going to happen.
I wonder if there is a "sell-by" date for such rhetoric? Will they still be calling for impeachment after the election?

I can hear them all right now screaming bloody murder. We will have years and years and years of "Well, Bush did it too" to throw at them. But I won't do that because it will have no more meaning than their "Well, Clinton did it too".
If a new Democratic President gets in and starts abusing his/her power the way Bush has, I will be after him/her the same way I have been after Bush for abusing his powers. It is not a good thing no matter who is doing it.
January 22nd, 2008 at 2:33 pmHonestly, if I could somehow swap minds with the President for his (or her) first day in office, the FIRST thing I would do is make a very public spectacle of rejecting every last bit of unchecked power. I'd need more than a day for the rest of my agenda, but the end result would be our troops out of Iraq (with a 'sorry we messed your country up, when you settle your little greviences, maybe we can talk about helping you get your feet again, but the free police and security force service is over.'), back in Afghanistan smashing every last remnant of Al Queda, and a little message to the Saudi: 'So long and thanks for all the oil. BTW, clean up your act or we'll be coming for you next.' The only down side is that they'd have to take the football from me, because, well, my wife has had too much of an impact on me, and playing Global Thermonuclear Warfare with WOPR sounds like much fun. ;)

No, after the election is will be war crimes at the Hague.
January 22nd, 2008 at 2:34 pmRight on Tamm.
January 22nd, 2008 at 2:34 pmI think we've been sayin' the exact same thing for like . . . 6 1/2 years?
"Unchecked powers are unacceptable no matter who is president.â€
And even moreso when it's a mentally lacking , power hungry imbecile who has been nothing but a life-long failure and habitual liar...........

Tammy, I'm working on a table in my garage.
January 22nd, 2008 at 2:37 pmI'll gladly donate it to Nancy. I'll pay the freight.

Precisely as likely as impeachment, too.
January 22nd, 2008 at 2:41 pmTammy, Tammy, Tammy..... You need to take off those velcro balls you are wearing and hand them over to Pelosi. Nevermind, even with Pelosi sporting velcro balls she is still to chicken to even mention Impeachment. Democrats have no spine to take on the big bad Republicans.

Really? See the DIFFERENCE is that a Democrat in the whitehouse probably wouldn't BLOCK an international tribunal, even if they wouldn't bother trying to impeach when there are enough Republican Congressmen that would VOTE THEIR PARTY instead of PROTECT THEIR CONSTITUTION ;)

The folks in power will claim that they were for impeachment, after they were against it.

well duh....no shit sherlock....these are the same criminals from the nixon and reagan eras.
January 22nd, 2008 at 2:55 pmIt's not that Nancy & Harry have no gonads.
What it is is that there is no difference between them and the GOPers.
They are all working together.
That's why impeachment is 'off the table' and also why they are never held accountable for breaking the law(s).
I wouldn't expect to see any different until the people rise up in anger and teach them a lesson . . . by hand.
January 22nd, 2008 at 2:59 pmAll politics. This is going nowhere.

January 22nd, 2008 at 3:16 pmOnce again, talk of impeachment is a futile exercise designed to give the sheeple an impression that our leaders actually care about integrity, honesty and law.
January 22nd, 2008 at 4:00 pmThe extent these pols will go to in an attempt to get their names in the papers and on the tv news is nothing new and most folks just simply ignore them for the most part.
January 22nd, 2008 at 4:05 pmI can see their hands shaking from here. Timid at best, more likely just playing their role dutifully.
January 22nd, 2008 at 6:04 pmBah, let the standards they have set, be their own hell.

WOW...
This is uncommon for TP.
Addressing IMPEACHING BUSH/CHENEY more than once.
Does this mean IMPEACH BUSH/CHENEY is gaining traction among the TP CREW.
Some day TP might have enough written on the subject to include it in the TOPICS LIST to the right... NO?
You know, the vehicle runs faster when it's plugged in.
QUICK QUIZ KIDZ:
How many Impeachment bills have been submitted by members of Congress during the BUSH/CHENEY REIGN?
Suggestion:
Alternative news blogs/entities should focus less on "COMMON KNEWZ" and focus more JOURNALISTIC RESEARCH into the less common(read buried) stories that truly affect our lives.
When will TP address Sibel Edmonds? ELECTRONIC VOTE FRAUD? 9/11?
R E G U L A R L Y!?
... if ever?
This is one way to keep a nation STOOPID... NO?
.
p.s.
On a positive note.
Thanks for addressing the issue.
Please keep it up. AMERICA needs more truth to Think about.
.
January 23rd, 2008 at 4:32 am.
ONLY THREE FOR CHENEY...
SOON...
50 MORE FOR BUSH!!!
thanks Dennis.
January 23rd, 2008 at 4:38 amThe problem is, both Republicans and Democrats are very cozy with the Status Quo (not the band), and an impeachment is a serious rocking of the boat. Taking decidedly a side in the issue is a thing to what most representatives are allergic.
January 23rd, 2008 at 7:13 amIt's funny how the House Judiciary Committee can't quite accomplish anything but rhetoric. They seem to reflect the same problems as the Justice Department.
January 23rd, 2008 at 10:17 amQuite framkly, American Justice is in the toilet. All talk no action. Except when they want to load a verdict against some underling to impress their power.
