Opening his radio show with funeral music yesterday, Fox News host John Gibson callously mocked the death of actor Heath Ledger, calling him a “weirdo” with a “serious drug problem.”
Playing an audio clip of the iconic quote, “I wish I knew how to quit you” from Ledger’s gay romance movie Brokeback Mountain, Gibson disdainfully quipped, “Well, he found out how to quit you.” Laughing, Gibson then played another clip from Brokeback Mountain in which Ledger said, “We’re dead,” followed by his own, mocking “We’re dead” before playing the clip again.
Listen to it:
GIBSON: Maybe he had a serious position in the market.
TOM SULLIVAN: And possibly today, he looked at the window and said…
GIBSON: “Oh my God.”
SULLIVAN: His name’s not Keith Bledger, right?
GIBSON: He was depressed about yesterday’s downturn in the world stock markets.
On the Democratic debate in South Carolina:
GIBSON: Apparently Heath Ledger was suicidal and his friends saw it coming. I think he watched the Clinton-Obama debate last night. I think he was an Edwards guy, cause he saw his Edwards guy was just completely irrelevant.
In reality, New York City Police spokesman Paul J. Browne told the New York Times that there was “no obvious indication of suicide.”
You stay classy, John Gibson.
UPDATE: In 2006, when Brokeback Mountain was released, Gibson repeatedly made fun of the film, calling it “a gay agenda movie.”
UPDATE II: Newshounds is encouraging readers to complain to Fox News about Gibson’s comments.
UPDATE III: GLAAD has started a petition asking Fox News “why they continue to provide a platform for John Gibson’s cruel and tasteless comments.”
Such a *lovely* Christian sentiment!

That’s because to them, heartlessness IS funny.
They’re bullies, and they don’t realize that most normal people find humor in the frailties of the strong. Bullies, on the other hand, think that the frailties of the weak are hilarious. And they don’t realize that THEY are the real weaklings. (Or rather, they don’t realize that WE recognize their weakness and do everything they can think of to keep it hidden.)

Thanks for sharing. Clinical depression is a very common ailment. And while his death was probably accidental either way it was the medication he was taking for his anxiety and insomnia that caused his death. Anybody who has ever experienced anything like that for even a brief time knows how stupid it is for Gibson to make his comments. I hope karma gets him.

I’ve taken Ambien because I have insomnia and that is a drug that can be easily abused and has very tricky and whacky side effects. When your prescribed dose doesn’t work, it’s easy to start self-medicating…hence, how you start abusing. I actually used it with anti-anxiety medicine and for about 7-10 days I couldn’t get any sleep. Heath Ledger’s death sounds like he was depressed in some fashion, but definitely self-medicating with some nasty combination. For John Gibson to find joy in his death is to question if Gibson is in dire need of some sanctioned psycho-analysis.
January 23rd, 2008 at 6:02 pmDR MATT: You are right about the autopsy. I should have indicated “preliminary findings” are inconclusive.
January 23rd, 2008 at 6:05 pmThe other point I offer: We know nothing. but that does not stop the masses from speculating and fantasizing.
Interesting how, in demonizing Heath Ledger for his role in a “gay-themed” movie, he overlooks an earlier role that may have been more to Gibby’s liking: the young man who gave his life for his country’s freedom in the Mel Gibson historical epic “The Patriot”.
I mean, if an actor’s choice of role makes such a difference to Gibby, shouldn’t Ledger have been given credit for taking on such a patriotic role in a depiction of American history?

January 23rd, 2008 at 8:04 pmIt’s the height of arrogant, illogical stupidity to assert that because people read comment on something more tangential to the problems facing us that they are ‘diverted’ from the other problems, that they become instantaneously ignorant and complacent because of it.
There is no virtue, tablogloid, in focusing on a thought every moment of the day. John Gibson is obviously homophobic because the thoughts of men’s privates excites him. He’s a self-hating person because he’s so far in the closet that he’s finding x-mas presents from his teenage years. A great way to cover ones insecurities is to bash the person/thing that makes you the most insecure. I hope after John made these comments, he had to run home and play Brokeback Mountain for comfort.

This has nothing to do with John Gibson’s political stance or religion… he is just an insensitive wanker. I can’t help but wonder whether or not you guys hang on the every word of conservative pundits just so you can leave such misguided comments.
Whatever your political stance is, realise that conservatism or christianity have nothing to with John Gibson’s horrible reaction to Heath Ledgers death instead of resorting to comments such as:
“maybe he should marry George Bush !”
“Gibson represents all the metaphorical VD our culture has accumulated in the neocon BushCo era.”
“Such a *lovely* Christian sentiment!”
Many readers of this blog seemingly need to grow up or get some simple social (and maybe political) awareness.

This is what Murdoch must want…this is what the sponsors of his show of little horrors must want. But the question which has the most importance in my opinion is, does he matter? If all he exists for is the return he gets on his nastiness this is very sad. May he lie awake at night thinking about what he does and make himself useful to his fellow man. Otherwise it’s just about making money, being the smart-ass kid in class looking for laughs and a boost for his sick demonic ego.

January 24th, 2008 at 10:23 amSo sad to see Mr. Gibson spew this mockery of a young man whose tragic death is still so close. Have we become so callous and hateful as to mock the life of a man before his family has had time to grieve his death and give him proper burial? Is this what has become of the once heralded FOX News? Shame on Gibson and shame on FOX for your homophobic agenda! This man was an actor who acted in a role as a homosexual, he was not, himself, a homosexual, and even if he were, what gives Gibson and FOX the right to target an individual?

January 24th, 2008 at 10:51 amAre you trying to be funny, Mr. Gibson? Because you aren’t. I hope you lose any listeners/followers that you have left over the comments you made. I, for one, will NEVER listen to or read anything that has your name on it again.
January 24th, 2008 at 10:54 amYou are a sick SOB John Gibson.
January 24th, 2008 at 10:59 amI’ve never heard of John Gibson but was directed here to listen to his comments about this. Does he claim to be a Christian? Because it sounds to me like he passed big-time judgment on Heath Ledger.
Disgusting.
January 24th, 2008 at 11:01 amsooooo I sure hope the sponsors like DIRECT BUY are getting a load of the comments being made here. Because they are one of the sponsors of his show. How many other sponsors of his show do you know? Can anybody else name just one?
January 24th, 2008 at 11:02 amMy question is, where is the line between the first amendment and respect for human beings. Leave it alone…let his memory be good as most people remember. Does John Gibson have nothing better to do then trash someone that can no longer defend himself? Sick!
January 24th, 2008 at 11:18 amit would be helpful if someone would research the show sponsors so we could all boycott their products
January 24th, 2008 at 11:20 amSent to comments@foxnews.com:
The comments made by one of your employees are deeply disturbing. Mocking the death or anyone for any reason; entertaining or not; is callous and malicious, not to mention slanderous. Heath Ledger portrayed a CHARACTER in a MOVIE. Furthermore, incorrectly reporting that Heath’s death was a suicide either shows Fox News’ irresponsibility in fact-checking as a news media network, or just thinly veils your own social agenda.
Gibson shames journalists worldwide with his bigoted remarks about the film, the character, AND the actor, and how you hold no shame from this man’s actions is astounding to not only me, but a majority of the world as well.
Congratulations on soiling the name of Fox even further than it already was.

Talk about liberal hypocrisy. Is this any different than Lionel on Air America making fun of the death of Steve Irwin????
January 24th, 2008 at 11:38 amWhile no amount of tears or sorrow can bring him back, we’ll never quit the the tent full o’ lulz.
January 24th, 2008 at 11:45 amThe guy’s a douche.
We’ll have to wait for the toxicology report, but it’s looking like Ledger may have died accidentally from mixing multiple prescriptions with sleeping pills.
January 24th, 2008 at 12:12 pmI wrote to fox and said:
To whomever actually reads these,
I demand my commentary as well as all the rest of the people who write in to be heard. John Gibson is disgusting. I have been following his trail of bullshit for awhile now. Putting aside his christian zealot behavior and ridiculously unprofessional demeanor I don’t find him the least bit entertaining. His book sucked, his talk show sucks, and as a person he is just a vial biggot. In his most recent stint, he attacked and degraded a dead man, Heath Ledger. Regardless of the cause, situations, or stigma surrounding the death of actor Heath Ledger it is severely inappropriate to talk about it. But talking is not even my issue with him, he is degrading a dead person. A person, who has no record of anything bad in his entire life. A hardworking, normal person, with a child and a life. Any loss of life should not be talked about in that fashion. Making comments about Heath committing suicide when that has not even been proved is vastly inappropriate. Saying he is a “weirdo” and has a “drug problem” when he couldn’t possibly confirm or validate either of those claims, is entirely inappropriate. Lastly, what I find to be the most incriminating factor in this entire discussion, is Gibson’s hate for gays. First off Heath Ledger was an ACTOR! He was playing a role in a movie. Gibson made a comment that I find to be one of the most souless and heartless things I have ever heard allowed to be aired. He made a mockery of a quote from Broke Back Mountain and said, “Well, he found out how to quit you.†Basically saying, once again, that Heath killed himself. I do not know why this show was allowed to air, I do not know or care for anyones opinions on Heath. It is up to every person to make and form their own opinions. However, the majority of people don’t have the means or a venue to express their views. To be fair I would love to have a show countering Gibson, a debate even on this entire issue. He is a cold person, heartless in his ways and demeanor. This should not have been allowed. Anyone who read or heard his show that I have spoken to took personal offense. Whether or not Heath committed suicide, whether or not he had a drug problem. He is dead now, he was loved, and people are hurting. You don’t make comments and say things like that on the radio millions of people listen to. Put a silencer on Gibson, show some dignity, and show some restraint. I am all for free speach, but I am entirely against trash talk shows.
I also wrote directly to his show on his website:
I have a comment for you. You are a disgusting waste of life. Your show takes up precious energy to broadcast and its a total waste. No one likes you, no one cares about you, and your book is on sale for 1 cent. So that says it all right there. I find your comments on Heath Ledger to be completely disrespectful to not only fans, his family, but people in general. Death is sacred. Being a Christian zealot like you are, one would think you would understand how precious life is. I would clean up your act, its rumored that your on your way out anyway.
The said part is that fox will most likely do nothing to stop any of this, Its sad. I try not to focus much on the ridiculous opinions of media people. As most of the time they are skewed by their own views, and the views of the people they work for.
January 24th, 2008 at 12:29 pmFox “News” has never provided the public with anything other than small mindedness, blatant lies and arrogant disregard for anyone not serving their interests. So, I’m not surprised that the idiot “Fox-Bot” John Gibson managed to confuse being entertaining and witty with being inhumane, cruel and completely ignorant.
Still, I’m sickened by his remarks and by the fact that Fox News insists on perpetuating this low brow, school yard bully type of broadcasting. Fox News is to our culture what the weakest link is to the evolution of mankind.
January 24th, 2008 at 12:59 pmJohn Gibson……you are dead to me, and so is Fox News. Heath Ledger was a far better man than you seem to think you are!! Insensitive loser.
January 24th, 2008 at 1:33 pmIt must be so easy to mock and insult a dead person. There aren’t any repercussions because the dead can’t speak……but this is where Mr. Gibson has made a critical mistake. We the public will stand up and defend the honor of someone who was leading a productive life, who brought entertainment to millions, who was a father who desperately wanted to be with his daughter to help raise her. In the end it is the small mindedness, ignorance and lack of sympathy that will have people remembering Mr. Gibson when he finds himself at the end of life’s road. For Heath we will remember his compassion, caring and energy for life. Rest in peace Heath.
January 24th, 2008 at 1:43 pmI’m amused by the fact that he predicted that “Brokeback Mountain” would make no money. According to IMDB, by April 16, 2006, it had grossed $83,025,853, making back its $14 million budget and then some. And that’s only its earnings in the US.
January 24th, 2008 at 1:43 pmMr. Gibson/HateFace,
I seriously doubt any of my gay friends or I would MAKE FUN OF YOUR DEATH. Because, we’re not haters. We didn’t ask to be gay… we are simply LIVING OUR LIVES!
Anyone that likes you is a closed minded, ignorant hater too. Wow, what great people! You suck.
January 24th, 2008 at 1:52 pmMel…meet John.
Give him an old-fashioned Aussie hiding that he will never forget.
January 24th, 2008 at 2:41 pmJohn – What is wrong with you? Are you trying to be funny but clearly not succeeding? A characater someone plays as an actor doesn’t mean they have actually become that person in real life. You PLAY a newsman on TV so your job should be to report honest and accurate news and not gossip and opinion. Don’t you remember what happened to Imas. Look out! Didn’t your mother ever teach you if you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all. Shut up. I won’t watch your show again. Good luck with those important ratings in a world of major news competition.
January 24th, 2008 at 2:52 pmRicl077: Lionel’s comments about Steve Irwin were indeed repugnant, but I don’t understand why you feel that Think Progress should give them equal time. Think Progress is a liberal web site, and it exposes foolish and hateful statements made by conservatives. There are also conservative web sites, such as NewsBusters, that expose similar statements made by liberals. It isn’t hypocritical to make the best case for your position unless you make a claim of objectivity.
January 24th, 2008 at 3:20 pmIf your going to say something at least be educated on the subject.
The comment heath ledger made about death he was refering to the face he was no longer afaird to die because of his DAUGHTER, he said he now had this little person that his life was in but you DONT WANT to die because you want to be around for their whole life.
How dare you mock someone’s death, accidental or not, a 28 yr old father, son, brother and friend lost their life. You should be ashamed.
Playing the clips from Brokeback mountain? Your sick. Sound to me like your a homophobe and a little jealous that so many people care that heath died, unlike if you died.
January 24th, 2008 at 3:24 pmHow dare anyone mock another person’s death. Ignorant piece of filth. Pathetic.
January 24th, 2008 at 3:48 pmThe next person to see Gibson in public has to promise to kick him as hard as you can sqwa in the nuts. And after you kick him, kick him again. Tell him that’s for Heath. I have never condoned physical aggression against another human being in my entire life. Good thing Gibson isn’t human.
January 24th, 2008 at 3:51 pmi think it’s amusing that gibson’s trying to seem all manly and tough while the repub candidates he fluffs are trotting out chuck norris and/or vying for sylvester stallone’s endorsement. subtext much?
January 24th, 2008 at 3:59 pmHow much do you bet that Gibson has a “wide stance” while in the john?
January 24th, 2008 at 4:30 pmGibson’s remarks are certainly disgusting, but they cannot be half as disgusting as the actual vileness of sentiment resident in his dark soul, such as would motivate him to callously mock the tragic death of an inoffensive and highly regarded young man.
Adding insult to Gibson’s injuries is his use of some clips from “Brokeback Mountain” as a pretext of sorts for some veiled gay bashing, or at the very least poking at Ledger for what Gibson may perhaps have felt was a diminished or relinquished masculinity on Ledger’s part because of his role in the film. Extremely sickening.
And finally, Gibson’s wonderment at how a 28-year old could be thinking about death demonstrates that Gibson’s intellect is equatable with that of a sand flea. People of all ages and walks of life are plagued by emotional problems. As such, Heath Ledger deserves extraordinary compassion, not the cold and foul disdain delivered by John Gibson.
January 24th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
January 24th, 2008 at 4:38 pmI believe he needs to be fired! What a cruel thing to say! The guy JUST DIED!!! Have some respect!!! GIBSON HAS NO CLASS!!!!
why isn’t his ass fired? what he said is MUCH WORSE than what that a-hole Imus said. why isn’t there ANY NATIONAL OUTRAGE over his comments? where is ANYONE WITH A CONSCIENCE these days?
this guy ought to be fired and fined heavily by the FCC.
January 24th, 2008 at 5:17 pmit is not only disrespectful to mock ANY person’s death, but to do so about a young, telented actor who had a great future, that’s crossing the line wayyyy to much
January 24th, 2008 at 5:41 pmJohn Gibson will hate anyone who is not white, straight and republican.
So what if he played a gay cowboy in a movie, he got nominated for it. I don’t see Gibson being nominated for anything.
And, by the way, I am younger than Heath Ledger, and yes, I HAVE thought about death quite often; but I still think about the future…
If that’s all he could say with this tragic and shocking death, he should not be aloud to be a newsman. These people are SUPPOSED to give the news to the people in a neutral way, as in not saying your own opinion if it is not asked.
John Gibson is a man of no class.
LET’S KILL HIM NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, WELL I HOPE GIBSON GETS AIDS AND DIE NOW PLEASE!!!!!!!!. I CAN’T STAND THIS KIND OF PEOPLE, YOU FU*/#$% RETARDED BASTARD, I HOPE YOU NEVER SLEEEEEEP….NEVERRRRRRR BUT NEVERRRRRR SLEEEEEEP…..IN YOUR LIFE, YOUR BEST FRIEND WILL BE XANAX AND YOUR SOULMATE WILL BE PROZAC……OH YES GOD FORGIVE ME BUT THIS GUY NEED TO DESEAPEAR OF THE PLANET NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
hE MUST DIE, I HATE YOU, LEDGER WAS THE BEST!!!!!!!!
January 24th, 2008 at 6:51 pmHas anyone asked the FCC what they plan to do about it. Charges should be brought not only against gibson but also FOX NEWS. Let me find out if they plan to do anything. . .
January 24th, 2008 at 5:51 pmI am an Aussie and extremely sad about Heath’s death. I cannot believe the crap that comes out of your country and these people (John Gibson) can actually get away with this shit without being sued. I was impressed with some of these comments about him. Yes please get him off the air. (He gets paid for saying this stuff). I cannot believe it. Thank you to all of you for your honest sentiments.
January 24th, 2008 at 6:00 pmThe world would be a better place without HATERS LIKE YOU!!! How in the world do we allow people like this to dispense such hatred and ignorance in public and on the news! Where is our sense of decency people!
THIS MAN DOES NOT DESERVE TO HAVE A JOB SUCH AS THIS!!! NO ONE DOES!
January 24th, 2008 at 6:56 pmGibson; Just Another :jesus Freak” – what an ass hole! FOX News – now that’s an oxymoron
January 24th, 2008 at 6:57 pmFOX NEWS AND THEIR STAFF
GIVE AMERICAN’S A BAD NAME!
THIS IS HOW “WE” ARE ALL PERCEIVED WHEN WE ALLOW SUCH IGNORANCE AND DO NOTHING ABOUT IT!
HOW EMBARRASSING AND SHAMEFUL!
FIRE THIS GUY! SOMEONE PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

January 24th, 2008 at 7:03 pm151 i just emaile deveryone on your list and asked if they planned on doing anything about it! ? !
January 24th, 2008 at 7:07 pmI agree with ‘carriejacobs’ how many emails can we get in there before FOX starts to believe WE WILL NOT TOLERATE THIS KND OF BEHAVIOR. THE MAN IS NOT EVEN IN THE GROUND YET. My sincerest apologies to the Australian people, Heaths fans and mostly his family. We do not all think like this. Just the ones trying to make their wallets fat by using this kind of shock radio.
January 24th, 2008 at 7:19 pmThis is DISGUSTING. This man is the definition of ignorant. It’s because of people like him we live in a world like we do.
January 24th, 2008 at 7:39 pmTHIS MAN WAS A FATHER, A SON AND SOMEONES FRIEND AND THIS IDIOT HAS THE NERVE TO TALK ABOUT HIS DEATH AS A JOKE. I HOPE AND PRAY THIS PERSON NEVER LOSES HIS LOVE ONES. I THINK THE REASON HE CAME DOWN SO HARD ABOUT HEATH PLAYING A GAY MAN, IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT ONE TIME IN HIS LIFE OR EVEN NOW, HE HAS HAD FEELINGS FOR THE SAME SEX AND IS AFRAID TO LET HISSELF GO.
January 24th, 2008 at 7:42 pmI just heard the completely inappropriate way John Gibson opened up his news cast with the funeral music and making o mockery of Heath Ledger’s death! You people think it’s comical to continuously spread your hatred for the gay community by airing these subtle comments thinking you can get away with it, and worse, by disgracing the family of a brilliant actor before he’s even put to rest. You continue to mock a community that has endured so much hate, and from the very same people that think they are Christian like, but I assure you! You are farther from a decent human being than our closest relative, the common ape!
January 24th, 2008 at 7:52 pmI will make sure not to support any of your bigoted companies in any way shape or form, and you bet I will spread the word! I’ve never sent a letter of this sorts to anyone, so as you can see, I’m completely fed up with powers that think they can get away with anything they want, without consequences.
I my line of work, I reach thousands of ears every week! and my voice will be heard!
May you reap what you sew!
Oh my goodness……
I feel so sorry for Americans if they are to be represented in this manner. John Gibson, who I have never ever heard of before now..(goes to show just how fantastic he is) is in embarrasment for America.
I am Australian and can not believe that someone could make such a mockery of a tragic end to such a beautiful life.
If you can only liken Heath to Brokeback Mountain you are an absolute idiot. That man had more talent and soul in his little finger than you do in your whole body.
It is just so sick to make stupid comments about your stupid presidential elections and stock market crashes as the cause of his death.
Depression is a serious illness and your ignorance astounds me. A 28 year old who is depressed and has so much pressure placed upon them may indeed turn to thought of suicide.
I am 24…I have depression I have been there. You are pathetic…..This is the 21st cetury and I can not believe that people are still so IGNORANT…….
Your doing America proud mate, you really are.
January 24th, 2008 at 8:53 pmThe Fox Network Needs To Fire This Man! The hate spewing out of this man is wretched!
January 24th, 2008 at 9:26 pmjohn gibson is the biggest turd
it hasn’t been confermed wat the corse of death was yet and he goes around saying all these comments about suspecting that it was ’suerside’. he’s got a young family u ass hole gibson, u’de think they’de be going through a ruffer time as it is!
January 24th, 2008 at 9:43 pmand he also wasn’t ’surrounded’ by pilles either, they found a bottle of pills on a table.
so piss off gibson
i’m a cristian myself and who cares if someones gay?!?
January 24th, 2008 at 9:47 pmit’s there choice not the church’s
i have nothing against gays, there still people
i mean whats wrong with them?!?
there still respectable
I am disgusted by the hatred you show for someone you don’t even know!! You should be ashamed of yourself. You are allowed to have your opinion, but out of respect for his friends, family, and fans keeping this to yourself would be what a real human being would do. Yet, a real human being would not disrespect another by even thinking those thoughts. What goes around comes around, so don’t be surprised when no one is there to shed a tear when your number is up.
January 24th, 2008 at 10:09 pmhow dare you man.
January 24th, 2008 at 10:20 pmputting a man down just for PLAYING a gay and he is dead!
he can’t fight back!
you fill me with disgust and hatred.
Who is this insensitive clod? Another media nobody spewing gossip not based on any fact? As usual Gibson is one who should count to 50 before putting his mouth in gear. As the saying goes, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.” Unless he was there and is a close personal friend of Heath Ledger’s he has no idea what happened in that apartment in NY. And he has no respect for Ledger’s family and real friends and fans. Boycott FOX and the sponsors of this clueless ninny’s show. This should make everyone think twice before they repeat something or offer an opinion on something they know nothing about. What is the purpose for saying it? Will it harm anyone? Will it make someone feel better?
January 24th, 2008 at 10:23 pmWay to kick a guy when he’s down.. Gibson, what a douche.
January 24th, 2008 at 11:05 pmthis is Disgusting and upseeting
January 24th, 2008 at 11:46 pmits only normal to think about death at any age im 16 and think about death and i love life want to live like no tomorrow
heath is the best actor their ever was
I am seroiusly disgusted by the ignorant comments I heard come out of your mouth. You should be ashamed of yourself. A man of your age saying such hateful, hurtful things about a person you obviously did not even know.
I have never even heard of you until today. You sure are a disgusting excuse for a human being. I can’t believe that anyone would even allow that filth to be on display on any radio or tv show where ever you are being listened to.
You should be apologizing to Heath’s friends and family who loved him. You know what comes around goes around and one day it may be your family member who is on the recieving end of those nastey comments. I hope that you eventually GROW UP and have the balls to apologize.
You seem like a angry OLD MAN and I feel sorry for you. You may be on your last leg and here you are saying such things. Get over yourself you nastey, disgusting excuse for a human being. If someone spit in your face for those comments, you would sure deserve it.
If Heath was my son or brother I would spit in your face myself!
January 25th, 2008 at 1:26 amJohn Gibson has a right to feel however he wants about Heath Ledger’s demise and anyone who disagrees with his opinion also has a right to tune out his program if they are offended.
Would there be as much outrage if it was Joe Blow the plumber or countless other non “movie stars” who met the same fate? I doubt it.
January 25th, 2008 at 1:42 amPersonally, I’m sick of hearing non-stop reporting about this story for the past three days. It isn’t as though this guy was the leader of a country or some such other important worldly position. No, he was just someone who memorized story lines and played them to a camera. A school bus driver should have more importance placed on his/her life, being that we place our kids safety in their hands twice a day.
No wonder this country is so screwed up, look at all the uproar over a drug caused death of just another mindless Hollywood shlub.
This the e-mail I have sent out to a few of his sponsors…
I would like to inform your company of my disgust in reaction to
January 25th, 2008 at 2:09 amcomments made by John Gibson of Fox News. I was informed by a website
that your corporation provides sponsorship funding for one or more of
his shows. The comments that he expressed on air in reference to the
death of actor Heath Ledger were despicable, evil, and ignorant. I
would think that you would not want your brand associated with a
person that should not even be allowed a public forum to spew this
hatred. These comments go past the protections of free speech for
which I am an avid supporter. I think anyone should be able to express
their opinion but when it goes over the public airwaves into
unsuspecting people’s homes I think it crosses the line of common
decency. I have conversed with many people on this issue and
regardless of what you may think about how a person may or may not
have lived their lives, it is completely out of bounds to mock the
death of a human being. This person was a son, a father, and a friend
to many. Can you imagine being the mother of this poor young man as
you hear an insensitive prick like John Gibson laugh and make fun
yours son’s demise on air simply to pander to his hateful base of
listeners. The next thing you hear when they cut to a commercial break
is an advertisement for your company. I would not want to be
associated with such sophomoric, cruel humor that has no regard for
how a human being lived his life or how his poor family must feel
during their grieving period. I beg you to pull your sponsorship for
his show. I have routinely used your services in the past and would
love to continue to do so. That being said…if you continue to
sponsor this vile and disgusting individual I will never use them in
the future.
Please Fox put a stop to John Gibson, this man has no business being on the radio.
January 25th, 2008 at 6:05 amI find it a little worrying that in American Media, you cannot say a word such as “-hit” on air but you can publicy insult , defame & use discriminating comments with the intent to breed hatred and intolerence of different cultures & communities. I am just happy that Heath will be coming home to Australia with his family where they will not have to be subjected to this kind of telecasted ignorance which is not tolerated here in Australia, thank god.
January 25th, 2008 at 6:06 amI happen to like John Gibson though I don’t have time to watch him because I would rather listen to talk radio. I have a suggestion to you book burning liberals out there. If you don’t like Gibson, don’t watch him. Gibson made a mistake. You should not criticize the newly dead, but that is no reason to take him off the air. Political Correctness is another form of censorship just like book burning. No wonder Liberalism has been compared to Fascism in a recent best selling book.
January 25th, 2008 at 11:31 amto: #166 and #170 shame on you both… This is an e-mail i sent out to all my friends and family over 150 people. FOX, the cancer is spreading and you need to cut it out.
“I have never written an E-Mail like this before which should be an
indicator of how serious I am about this kind of closeted bigotry
being allowed on the air. Shame on you FOX NEWS for letting this ever
get on the air. I’m all for the 1st amendment, this has nothing to do
with that and everything to do with furthering someone’s agenda and
fattening his wallet.

January 25th, 2008 at 1:05 pmI will NEVER watch FOX again..we could all be blown up and they were the only network broadcasting…I would not switch it on
January 25th, 2008 at 1:07 pmI’m not even gay and Im pissed off…its really not fair to discriminate against gay people. I know some and they are so cool and nice and not bothering anybody…why should they not have the same rights as straight people?????????????
Ledger wasnt gay either…it was just a character Gibson..know what I think? I think Gibson is a closet queen!!! He fell in love with Ledger after Brokeback Mounatin…Hes just bitter!
anyway…rest in peace Heath Ledger. You were a great actor, a good father, you were very handsome..you messed up dude…you had some mental problems…anixety… and you tried to self treat yourself. It got away from you…Its a loss….we’ll take care of Gibson…he is a complete HORSES ASS

your sentiments and everyone elses does Heath’s family and freinds a great tribute. Now let’s hit ‘em where it hurts, in the purse strings. Pass this along and let’s try to get this guy off the air.
January 25th, 2008 at 1:26 pmThe death of Heath Ledger came as a shock to the entire world. I for one do not find it amusing that someone so heartless could make any kind of a joke out of it. Death is no laughing matter. No matter who’s life it is being taken away, it shouldn’t be a joke to anyone. No one is promised tomorrow. And we see proof of that with the recent and shocking deaths of actors Brad Renfro and Heath Ledger. And to hear someone even blurt out such a disrespectful joke towards Heath’s death shows how much of a sick and heartless coward John Gibson really is. Whether he meant anything by it or not, it wasn’t funny. The world lost something when Heath died. They lost a legend, a son, a brother, a father, a cousin, a friend, a soul mate, etc. So where do you see the joke in this? It’s not a laughing matter when a 2 year old little girl has to grow up not really knowing anything about her father. It’s not a laughing matter when a mother and a father will never see their son again and never hear his voice again. It is not a laughing matter when a sister will never be able to hug her brother again and never be able to say, “I love you bro” to him again. So where is the joke? If you can see it, then you’re just as heartless as Gibson is. Because I don’t see it. I don’t see where a life taken away from such an extraordinary human being is funny. If you had any heart, you would take this as seriously as I and a lot of other people do and you would want to do something about this.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:55 pmMr gibson report of the death of Heat Ledger is absolutly disgisting. I dont know if it was suposed to be funny or something but Mr gibson should be fired. If is not able to report the tragic death of a young and talented actor with class and respect…. Gibson i dont care about your apology your a low-class looser.
January 25th, 2008 at 6:24 pmSorry for the typo i am french and do my best and I really want to let you know how i feel about what i heard.
At the ripe old of age of 48 (that myself I’m referring to here), I have TRULY COME TO “KNOW” THAT THOSE WHO SCREAM THE LOUDEST ABOUT A ‘CONTROVERSIAL ISSUE’ ARE USUALLY GUILTY THEMSELVES OF A SIMILIAR ‘OFFENSE’. Heth Ledger, as far as I know about him, was NOT GAY. He took a career risk by playing a gay character in an intelligent, truthful, and understanding film like “Brokeback”. He is not gay……..I have never heard one “ounce of gossip (which in itself, of course, is hardly ‘reliable’) about his “sexual orientation”. He died an early death, full of potential as an actor, and it remains a sad time for us all and, most importantly, his family. To mock him and make CHEAP, LOW-CLASS REMARKS ABOUT THE FILM OR SPECULATE ABOUT HIS PRIVATE LIFE IS REPREHENSIBLE, Mr. Gibson. Especially from you who make “how much money” making crude, cruel, humorless remarks about just about anybody you don’t care for. Again, based upon your website picture here, I’d say you were a closet case, certainly on par with that Senator a few months ago cruising airport bathrooms in Minnesota. C’mon, Mr. Gibson………COME OUT OF YOUR SELF-HATING CLOSET AND LET GO ! You’re not very good-looking, and quite old, dear, but with your money, I’m sure some young thing will link up with you………….so long as you keep your BIG FAT MOUTH CLOSED !!
January 25th, 2008 at 11:13 pmI have never posted here before and I never will again. I just wanted to say that after hearing that you mad fun of Heath Ledger dieing that I had to hear what was said. And after doing so I felt the need to speak back. Heath was not a “Weirdo” or a Drugie. He was an amazing actor, devoted father and a caring human being, witch is a hell of a lot more that i can say for you. I just pray Heaths family did not hear your disgusting hurtful coments. The real tragidy here is a wonderful person like Heath is gone and a piece of SHIT like you lives on. You are a disgrace to the human race!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
January 26th, 2008 at 12:05 amHopefully everyone that has commented will read my comment as i was so disgusted i joined just so i could post JOHN GIBSONS EMAIL ADDRESS-
john.gibson@foxnews.com
so we can all complain to him now. what a worthless piece of sh*t, it is absolutley none of his business and even if he was into drugs it doesn’t mean his death should be mocked in the slightest.
Many great musicians and actors have died as a result of drugs, purposely or not and no-one deserves to be treated that way.
and what kind of apology was that? it sounded like you were half laughing and just reading the tele-prompter. Apologies should come from the heart, someone who has touched alot of people lost their LIFE.
i wonder what people will say when you die john?
i have just got back from being in australia for 3 months as i have family there and the towns have such a close-knit community i’m sure they are all missing Heath terribly. I have never met him but always admired his films and talent, he was very dignified not getting caught up in all the press by keeping his life private. Thats what his family should be able to mourn in private. i don’t know why but i cry sometimes, people won’t leave him be and his daughter probably doesn’t understand yet. he will be missed and has millions of fans who support and love him.
i hope when you are laid to rest in Perth Heath, that it will be quiet and peaceful for you.
we love you xxxxxxxxx
January 26th, 2008 at 10:16 amWhat a despicable little man you are, rushing to judgement on such a sensitive subject. You used TMZ as your facts to make such comments? You may not agree with the lifestyle depicted in the film that Mr. Ledger starred in but you didn’t need to share that on the day of his untimely death. As a heterosexual male, I may not condone that lifestyle but I do respect others right to choice. Perhaps thinking about his two year old daughter and family would be a more compassionate stance.
Like the woman from the Golf Channel, who made inappropriate comments perhaps a little time off or even losing you job would be in order.

January 26th, 2008 at 11:49 ami know you’ve heard a thousand times what a cold hearted idiot you are. so i’ll spare you that opinion. what i will say is that i can’t wait for the day when your death/funeral is broadcast on the news (if you’re even worthy enough to be mentioned) and we can all listen to the remarks people will be making about you and their memories of you. i doubt they will contain one kind and thoughtful word.
OH my goodness, I’m a young person and I just said the words “death” and “funeral” in the same sentence!! woe is me, that must mean i’m suicidal and a weirdo!!!
Heath Ledger had more class in his toe nails than you do in your entire sorry body.
if you think by being controversial, you can boost ratings and get viewers, you’re badly mistaken. you’re just a very sad sad little man and i do stress the word “little”. you’ve not gained viewers, you’ve lost them, and lost even more respect and fox news should be ashamed for having such a low life on their payroll.
Karma will find it’s way back to you.
January 26th, 2008 at 12:26 pmoh and 90% of the time is NOT being right about everything….
your stupidity is amusing.
January 26th, 2008 at 12:35 pmYou’re so stupid!
January 26th, 2008 at 3:58 pmWow. Can you imagine the excrutiating pain it would cause to Heath Ledger’s family to hear these insensitive words. They are people who loved him more than anything in the world. You just don’t talk about people who died like that!!!! EVEN if you didn’t like them. Why do people think they can make fun of celebrities when they die? News Flash- they are as real as you and me.
January 26th, 2008 at 9:15 pmI BET GIBSON IS GOING TO JOIN WESTBORO CHURCH IN AUSTRAILA WHEN THEY PROTEST AT MR.LEDGER’S FUNERAL. GOSH, ITS SO WONDERFUL TO SEE SUCH COMPASSION. ACTUALY IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT, GIBSON, WHO IS FAT AND DISGUSTING TO LOOK AT, IS PROBABLY JEALOUS OF MR. LEDGER’S LOOKS, ETC. IT BLOWS ME AWAY THAT REPORTERS LIKE THIS JERK, REPORT LIES SO RECKLESSLY. IF THEY DON’T REMOVE THIS HORRIBLE MAN FROM FOX, I WILL NEVER WATCH FOX AGAIN EVER. THIS IS JUST AS BAD AS WHAT DOG THE BOUNTY HUNTER DID, OR IMUS DID, I ALSO WONDER IF THIS JERK HAS ANY CHILDREN, AND IF HE DOES, I WONDER HOW HE WOULD FEEL IF HE HEARD AN IDIOT ON T.V. TALKING ABOUT HIS SON LIKE THIS? I HOPE HE GETS FIRED FOR THIS AND I HOPE THAT HIM AND FOX NEWS GET SUED FOR REPORTING SOMETHING THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT. I TRULY DO HOPE THAT THE LEDGERS OR HEATH’S DAUGHTER’S MOM, STANDS UP FOR THE MEMORY OF HEATH LEDGER AND SUE FOX NEWS AND JOHN GIBSON FOR THIS DISPECABLE SO CALLED ”NEWS REPORTING”. NINA BOYDEN, SALEM,MISSOURI.
January 27th, 2008 at 6:06 pmHi all. Loads of very clever guys out there posting comments on this and much else, but can I ask you if your efforts would be better spent aiming your wisdom and wit at the targets themselves. Site is fab source of info, and debate always good, but most are the converted it seems. Just a thought that time can be better spent?
No offence intended to anyone. Would boards be better used to add info or correct errors rather than repetition of same sentiments we all by and large appear to agree with?
Happy hunting the yellow bellied right.
The Trickster (who will be reading but not boring you with more commentary)
P.S. Get on the Dawkins/Randi train guys. Its the best show in town!
January 28th, 2008 at 6:16 amGibson, how could you even think that disrespecting and saying anything like that about a person who is alive let alone someone who has passed on is ok. It is very disrespectful, and is very uncalled for.
January 28th, 2008 at 7:43 pmJust goes to show money can’t buy class. I will also NEVER watch him again.
January 28th, 2008 at 8:56 pmI never heard of John Gibson till I was directed to this site from another. I agree his verbal venom is despicable, so why are so many people watching him? If he has no audience, FOX will toss him out like a carton of rotten eggs. Also, he doesn’t seem to understand the difference between real and fantasy. Does he thing Keifer Southerland is really a gov’t. agent? Or that James Gandolfino is a mob boss?
January 30th, 2008 at 5:26 pmPlease die, John Gibson. Die horribly and die now. You cruel, vile, sad, sorry excuse for a man.
February 4th, 2008 at 4:37 pmDoes the Bible not say, “let he without sin cast the first stone.”? What makes Gibson think that he is somehow in a position to judge anyone or smear their name or reputation – particularly a person who is deceased?! We all fall short of perfection. We all are sinners and deserve hell. NO ONE merits heaven or respect because of their own ‘good works’. Jesus came for all people – he loves us all – even when we are “unloveable”. Is Gibson above God?! NOT! All he is doing is trying to create sensationalist “journalism” and incite others into a hatemongering frenzy. What good can he possibly be thinking he is doing?! This Gibson is a prime example of the worst representation of an American Christian (USA). No wonder most of the world hates America/ns – when they see us represented by someone like Gibson! He needs to be working in a dark room with numbers – AWAY from human beings – preferably in another galaxy! I don’t believe that God condones homosexuality & he doesn’t condone lying, cheating, stealing, killing, gossiping, fornication, etc. etc. In fact he hates all those things and more. But there is such a thing as respecting people and loving them. Shame on Gibson! He better pray that others will be kinder to him than he is to others. He is in for a very rude awakening.
February 5th, 2008 at 2:32 amRot John Gibson!!!!!!!!!
February 10th, 2008 at 1:43 pmAlthough he would have died instead of Heath Ledger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I see nothing wrong with John’s comments. Maybe those offended are a little too sensitive about others opinions. Maybe a nice veggie sandwich and a cup of green tea might help? Maybe grow up? WAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
February 29th, 2008 at 1:21 amWishing that someone would die, is much worse than making a joke after they’re dead.
Besides – after liberals publicly stated that they hoped Tony Snow would die of cancer, nobody cares if your feelings get hurt anymore.
Go back to your booze, your pot, and getting your news from the comedy channel.
