Bush: Bin Laden Will Be ‘Gotten By A President’ (But Probably Not This One)»

bushIt has been 2,326 days since 9/11, and the chief mastermind behind those attacks, Osama bin Laden, has not yet been captured. “If we could find the cave he is in, I promise you — he would be brought to justice or wherever he’s hiding,” President Bush tells Fox News in “George W. Bush: Fighting to the Finish,” a documentary scheduled to air Sunday night. Fox reports:

Bush says in the interview he’s confident bin Laden ultimately will be found.

“He’ll be gotten by a president,” Bush says.

And to critics who say he hasn’t done enough to find bin Laden, Bush is blunt:

“They don’t know what they’re talking about,” he says.

If bin Laden is indeed “gotten,” it looks increasingly like it will happen on another President’s watch. Bush himself has said openly that bin Laden is not a major priority for him.

In a March 2002 press conference, President Bush said, “I am deeply concerned about Iraq.” But when asked in the same press conference about bin Laden, he said, “I truly am not that concerned about him.”

In Sept. 2006, Weekly Standard editor Fred Barnes met with Bush in the Oval Office and came away convinced that “bin Laden doesn’t fit with the administration’s strategy for combating terrorism.” Barnes said that Bush told him capturing bin Laden is “not a top priority use of American resources.”

Bush’s lack of concern appears to be infecting our allies. Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said recently, “The 100,000 troops that we are using … are not going around trying to locate Osama bin Laden and Zawahri, frankly.”

  2. fletc3her Says:

By definition, if a goal is important, and I would describe finding Bin Laden as do-or-die, then if you have not yet accomplished that goal you haven’t done enough. Bush is a slacker by nature. Born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He has faced challenges, but in his life there is never any serious penalty for failure. His inability to kill or capture Bin Laden will go down as one of the great failures of his administration along with the Iraq War, the response to Hurricane Katrina, and his bookend recessions.

  3. TheRadicalRightisRadicallyWrong Says:

Isn’t it odd that he’s deeply concerned about Iraq a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 and not bin Laden, the one that had everything to do with 9/11?

Q.Whatever happened to Bush’s pledge to “get Osama dead or alive’?

  6. pinhut Says:

This is not much of a surprise.

If you have used an event such as 9/11 to rewrite the rules, and begin pre-emptive wars and extraordinary rendition and Gitmo, then you don’t logically want OBL anywhere near an American court or a showtrial, where he would be able to say some quite likely very embarrassing things, if permitted to speak freely.

The official version is not to be challenged now.

Much better for him to perish under a rock, or in a cave, etc, for the WH and quite possibly for the American people, who don’t appear too keen, in the main, on the truth coming out.

People currently appear more interested in Heath Ledger.

In all seriousness, as long as the entertainment industry is permitted to interface or masquerade as ‘news’, then the people will easily be distracted from the pursuit (and the non-pursuit) of goals. If 9/11 had happened with Democrats in the WH, Fox news would have a network ID in a corner, spinning around and counting the days OBL has been at large.

OBL to Bush, is like the Jews to Hitler: they were bogey men to be blamed for all of our troubles and for permission to destroy our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Bush never wanted OBL captured: he needs a ‘culprit’ and an ‘enemy’ so he can dismantle our way of life.

The USA is done, caput, broken, for sale. Everyhting you grew up knowing about your country is not valid any longer.

The word Bush will foreve be a perjorative term meaning “To continually, and predictably screw everything up”. The notion that jeb Bush will be a GOP candidate in 2012 is laughable on its face. The US will NEVER honor the bame of Bush - not now, not ever.

So… Bush thinks those who say he hasn’t done enough to get bin Laden “don’t know what they’re talking about”?

That must mean that he HAS done enough to get bin Laden.

That must mean he has GOTTEN bin Laden! Right?

Why hasn’t he paraded him before all of us? It would certainly jack his approval ratings, maybe to 50%.

Oh, that’s right — Bush doesn’t care about polls.

Many people have referred to Bush as a pathological liar. Bush can prove us all wrong after his retirement by traveling to Afghanistan to bring Bin Laden to justice. Bush likes to fancy himself a tough guy, so this his a chance to demonstrate his machismo.

Fact of the matter is, Bin Laden would cut off his balls and send him back as half the man he is now, which would make him only one quarter of a real man.

If Bush was half the man he thinks he is he would be twice the man we think he is.

goon_golly, you are such a tool. Bin Laden isn’t in a cave. Why should he be in a cave when he is living in Pakistan where he has been given a free pass. And he has no “minions” in Iraq. The so-called “AQI” are nothing more than insurgents who wanted to sound big and bad so they went around saying they were AQ. Besides, according to your heroes, all the AQ in Iraq have been killed. What really happened was that they didn’t want to play the game any longer so they went back to being plain old insurgents.

    You are dumber than dirt.

Of course, Gigi, you neglect the very real possibility that he’s in the wide swaths of Afghanistan now under Taliban control. AGAIN under Taliban control, I should say.

Or maybe he’s in Pakistan under the protection of Bush’s BFF Musharref?

Either way, I doubt he’s sweatin’ it. Especially not with the major efforts that the Boy king has made towards getting him.

Actually, given how successful Bush has been in most of the things he’s tried to accomplish over his lifetime, I’m not sure whether bin Laden is safer with Bush pursuing him aggressively, or leaving him alone.

That’s a great question and it will continue to remain unanswered by the trolls and wingnuts. Bin Laden is not a priority because Bush says so, and because they have no other rationale for the fact that he remains on the loose (or dead), although Bush promised fervently that “we’d get him, dead or alive.”

They have to minimize the importance of capturing OBL because to do otherwise would require admitting the administration’s complete failure to achieve one of the primary post-9/11 goals.

As a consequence, you get “answers” like goon_golly’s comment that, “oooh, well at least he’s not comfortable.”

  43. Mr. Evil Says:

Why would Bush want to capture his friend and enabler. Osama bin Laden is a paid CIA black op just as he was back in the 80’s when Afghanistan was fighting the old Soviet Union. Paid, trained and equipped by the CIA bin Laden was. Now his paycheck is signed by the PNAC. Osama bin Laden is the closest thing the neocons can have to the the goose that laid the golden egg. They’re not hunting him, they’re protecting him.

They created, funded and supported the Taliban, probably still do.
They needed to take out Bin-Laden because he would bring on too much attention and heat.
The Saudi’s didn’t need this guy hanging around drawing attention and publicity either. Bin laden was great for their causes, but once the heat came down he became a liability.

    1. bin Laden has no “minions” in Iraq. All he has done is encourage insurgents, most of whom come from Saudi Arabia, to continue the fight in Iraq because that hurts us. So failing to kill bin Laden has further endangered our own troops there. 2. bin Laden has the run of Northwest Pakistan and is treated like a legend by the radical Muslim tribes in that part of the world. I’m not sure why you even think he lives in a cave. He’s surrounded by fanatical bodyguards and sleeps in a warm bed every night.

C.I.A. Closes Unit Focused on Capture of bin Laden
    By MARK MAZZETTI

WASHINGTON, July 3 — The Central Intelligence Agency has closed a unit that for a decade had the mission of hunting Osama bin Laden and his top lieutenants, intelligence officials confirmed Monday.

The unit, known as Alec Station, was disbanded late last year and its analysts reassigned within the C.I.A. Counterterrorist Center, the officials said.

The decision is a milestone for the agency, which formed the unit before Osama bin Laden became a household name and bolstered its ranks after the Sept. 11 attacks, when President Bush pledged to bring Mr. bin Laden to justice “dead or alive.”

The realignment reflects a view that Al Qaeda is no longer as hierarchical as it once was, intelligence officials said, and a growing concern about Qaeda-inspired groups that have begun carrying out attacks independent of Mr. bin Laden and his top deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri.

Isn’t it also true that OBL has kidney failure and needs dialysis three times a week? That’s a little fact that makes not capturing him so far, even more ludicrous. Ok, I don’t believe Oswald killed Kennedy, so I’m prone to “conspiracy theories”, but c’mon… there’s just way too many suspicious things about the 9/11 to not at least want a complete and full investigation.

and #70… I feel what you’re saying. I just think that, as long as you’re using the laws of “PHISICS” as proof, you might start by spelling it correctly. It’s PHYSICS. Just a gentle correction.

    “W” been drinkin again?

  80. Doc Rock Says:

Dubya, crazed with bloodlust for revenge against Saddam, siphoned off forces from Afghanistan for his insane war and that allowed Bin Laden to slip the net! Bush, in his obsession to kill Saddam, was willing to sacrifice multiple restaurants full of diners and to allow Bin Laden to escape. He is a callous, self-absorbed criminal.

  81. texaslady Says:

#87 I agree but lets not forget all bush’s advisors, they all belong in the callous, criminal category. From Powell on down, the blood of all our military and Iraq citizens is on their hands. How do they sleep at night?

  82. ohplease Says:

yeah! You tell ‘em Bushie! Just like we got Castro!

  83. DaTruth Says:

let’s see Bin Laden and Bush grew up playing cards in picnics at the Crawford ranch they’re long time buddies and business partners Obviously Bush idiot is not at all concerned about him. Keep in touch Bin Laden, they may need your services once again for another 9/11-type gig in the near future!!!
