Bush’s former adviser Meghan O’Sullivan, “who played a key behind-the-scenes role in implementing Bush’s controversial Iraq policies,” canceled a speech at Indiana University on Tuesday “after the student newspaper refused to agree to demands that the public event would be off the record.” Sullivan claimed she was ill, but was later seen speaking off-the-record at a private dinner with professors and “campus leaders.”

every good republican knows that speaking on the record means..
the terrorists win…
January 25th, 2008 at 12:06 pmWhen asked, Ms Sullivan proclaimed she proudly served in the Bush administration — apparently completely unaware of her obvious contradiction….

Nope!! Can’t have ANYTHING on the record!! No way, no how!
It’s called “EVIDENCE”!
January 25th, 2008 at 12:08 pmMost loyal bushies don’t have a clue as to what the term “contradiction” really means. Nor do they have any idea about our constitution. Part of Rove’s scheme was to enlist the aid of “airheads or babies without a shred of experience” to fuel the lie.
January 25th, 2008 at 12:08 pmOur first clues were when the liars (Republican synonym) refused to be put under oath when providing testimony and/or were speaking in private, unrecorded, etc. As far as I’m concerned, if they refuse to be put under oath, then they should be held in contempt and pitched in jail. Otherwise, their testimony is meaningless.
January 25th, 2008 at 12:10 pmRoberto: Any doubt about our fascist media?
January 25th, 2008 at 12:11 pmCould someone please explain to me how a public speech can be “off the record” ?
This defies any sort of logic.
January 25th, 2008 at 12:12 pmOff the record? Off WHAT record? She wanted to speak under the condition that nothing she said would appear in print?
I’ve heard of people speaking “off the record” when talking to journalists privately, but this is the first time I have heard somebody request that of a public speech. What was she going to say at the end? “Thank you all for coming, and as you leave, forget everything you heard me say”???
I suspect that what she really meant was, “I’ll come and make a speech, but I plan to lie a lot, and I don’t want to be held legally accountable for anything I say.”
January 25th, 2008 at 12:13 pmOff topic (lo siento!)….Huffpo headline today is that the NYT just endorsed McCain and Clinton. Any doubt who the “fascist candidates” are now??? Three guesses and the first two don’t count….
January 25th, 2008 at 12:13 pmWho in the hell would demand that a PUBLIC EVENT be “off the record”?
Oh, that’s right — a loyal Bushie.
January 25th, 2008 at 12:13 pmUnderstandable. You want to be a bit hush-hush about war crimes.
January 25th, 2008 at 12:13 pmNo doubt at all. It’s just i thought, while looking at the CNN ticker, that showcasing it in this way would really drive the point home. It’s the most robotic and blatant i’ve seen in a while.
January 25th, 2008 at 12:15 pmmissmolly: The concept of “off the record” for a speech is mind boggling to say the least. Anyone who wants to speak before a public audience cannot have it both ways. She’s obviously caught between a rock and a hard place. Wanting to please her fascist bosses and spin the lie further but not wanting to have prison time in her future for “aiding and abetting” the illegalities. Pretty insightful if you ask me and illustrative of the level of desperation within this administration. They know the GOP is all but totally irrelevant and their prospects for 08 are slim to none….they’re trying to pull out all the stops now.
The damage is already done to the GOP and their cadre of morons running as candidates have become a national laughingstock at this point. There’s no way they will ever see the white house in 08.
January 25th, 2008 at 12:16 pmRoberto: We can all claim psychic powers when we predict that the “fear agenda” will be trumped up a thousand fold between now and the election. They’ve lost their “war edge” when their Iran mongering was squelched by the NIE so now they have to find other creative venues for crippling the people.
January 25th, 2008 at 12:18 pmI suspect that what she really meant was, “I’ll come and make a speech, but I plan to lie a lot, and I don’t want to be held legally accountable for anything I say.â€

And the deeper meaning is that they’ve finally discovered YouTube and are realizing that we will be recording what they say and using it against them when they contradict themselves later.
It’s a sad commentary on the state of our democracy when the reaction to this by those in power is not to be more truthful in public, but to refuse public speaking altogether.
January 25th, 2008 at 12:18 pmOff the record, I can’t remember, I can’t recall, it’s a state secret, that’s administrative privilege….if you’re not guilty of anything, then why are you covering everything?
Worst, most criminal Administration in history.
And yet there they are, still in office, laughing as they pillage the treasury.
Buck Fush
January 25th, 2008 at 12:19 pmI’m sure she’s got a letter from Fred Fielding excusing her from ever being on the record.
January 25th, 2008 at 12:20 pmI hope that McInsane is the candidate, truthfully because it will be a “slam dunk” for the democratic candidate. If Hillary is the chosen one by the Republicans who are tampering with the voting machines and Obama loses the nomination, be prepared for an Indy to come out of the woodwork to oppose her. It still won’t fragment the vote to the extent that some old geyser who’s so senile that he believes that “war is peace” could ever win the white house. McInsane’s “bomb, bomb, bomb Iran” charade exploded in his face and tanked his chances long ago. There is no way to irradicate that song and tactic from the hearts and minds of americans who loathe war and desire peace. MC CAIN IS THE WAR CANDIDATE - be not fooled.
I think it’s time to for someone to dig deeply into McCain’s intimate ties with the military war complex and/or war profiteers. I’d bet there’s a credible connection there if we dig deeply enough. Someone who was tortured personally during an illegal war does not become a war monger without it benefitting his bank account!
January 25th, 2008 at 12:22 pmChickenshit. Scumbag. Furtive, scurrying, dark corner loving little cockroachette.
Meghan O’Sullivan come on down.
January 25th, 2008 at 12:24 pmMcCain intimately knows the evils of war from personal experience. Other than a vengeful moron desiring to wreak some sort of twisted revenge scenario, why would someone who “purportedly” was subjected to such high levels of torture as a POW, advocate war?? It doesn’t compute.
Someone needs to dig into McCain’s financial holdings a bit here….
January 25th, 2008 at 12:24 pmIndiana University makes you take an oath before speaking to their student? Tough school.
January 25th, 2008 at 12:25 pmBucky Boy: As for pillaging the treasury, do you think Bush and Congress would be throwing this band-aid fix (money) at the people right now if it wasn’t an “election year”? More significantly perhaps is the fact that our economy is in recession with the prospect of a major depression thanks to their pillaging of our Treasury and our overwhelming national debt…..this is tainted money at best; payoff money at worst.
January 25th, 2008 at 12:26 pmI do recall that Bushitco threw money in the direction of the soccer moms just prior to his re-election bid. Amazing transparency!
January 25th, 2008 at 12:27 pmIt was to the tune of $300 - 500 per kid….can’t recall exactly…in exchange for his vote.
January 25th, 2008 at 12:27 pmToasterhead: That’s why it’s no longer a democracy.
January 25th, 2008 at 12:28 pm“Once a Bushie, always a Bushie.â€

January 25th, 2008 at 12:34 pmI can’t believe this. It was HER speech. It wasn’t like she was going to a debate or a free-for-all question and answer session. She could have said as much or as little as she wanted to, yet she still wanted to be “off the record?”
How is it even possible to give a public speech “off the record” in the first place?
January 25th, 2008 at 12:34 pmI had no idea who she was and guessed she was a Sara Taylor / Monica Goodling type. I was not too far off, except she is a redhead. It appears she (although a Bush stooge) is not a hardliner and argued against the war when she worked at State. She may have some interesting tidbits to share…………….or not.
January 25th, 2008 at 12:34 pmI think it’s safe to say that the Bush Administration has drafted up some extra-governmental nondisclosure agreement that its disciples have signed.
That and Karl Rove has got a file on every one of them.
January 25th, 2008 at 12:39 pmDemanding that a public speech be off the record, is, well, on oxymoron, but what would you expect from a moron who ‘proudly served’ with BushitCo?
January 25th, 2008 at 12:44 pmWhy do universities continue to pay these people. ‘
January 25th, 2008 at 1:54 pmWhy do people come ?
To have the KOOL-AID poured directly down their thoats ?
This is incredulous .
Clinton , Guilani , Powell, etc.
This paying these people muliple thousands of dollars to speak is stupid.
Sure, they all don’t like to speak on the record - a fact checker might expose their lies. They might have to answer a question without a scripted, rehearsed reply.

Isn’t an oxymoron someone who listens to and believes Rush Limbaugh?
January 25th, 2008 at 2:35 pmMeghan O’Sullivan = Scum!!
January 25th, 2008 at 8:21 pmShould have taken her out for a dip in one of the quarries.
