House GOP’s retreat funded by lobbyists.

This weekend, House Republicans are gathering at the Greenbrier resort in West Virginia to have a conversation about cutting earmarks. As GOP members gather to talk about how to cut ties with lobbyist money, Ben Pershing notes that their weekend retreat is being partly funded by lobbyists:

As Bush stood in the banquet room addressing the assembled lawmakers, projected onto a giant screen next to him were the words “Congressional Institute.” [..]

The group is run by a high-powered board of Republican lobbyists, all of whom presumably value the entrée into Congressional affairs the institute provides.

At least it’s not “partly funded” by George Soros, spawn of satan. Being “partly funded” by lobbyists is the American way. No irony here, no sirreebob.

Rethugs retreat funded by lobbyists? This is more than likely about cutting earmarks that Democrates want, not on cutting their earmarks.

But I wish that they ALL would STOP the EARMARKS and make LOBBYIST loose their jobs by making it illegal to do.

The Republican elite will never learn the lesson. Special interest groups are only those that represent people: unions, the poor, minorities and the such. Businesses are not special interests. They are experts in the areas that they control and represent the real entities to be served by the government. Businesses merely encourage additional profit and that is what capitalism is about. Our economy and government are not about people.

Could you imagine if you had the misfortune of timing your pleasant weekend getaway at the Greenbrier this weekend only to have share the resort with nearly every Republican in Congress and their lobbyist?

Well, Im glad to see that they realize they need to be fiscally responsible lest the empire crash due to its overindulgence in military and corporate pork.

    Populism can save the empire.

  22. Xisithrus says:

For, you know, the people of empire are more important than empire itself. Just ask the Romans what happens when the leaders ignore the populace and disparity rears its ugly head.

And that is a DAMN good DUMBASS place for them to meet. No one is gonna out smart them in WV!!!

  24. dixie blood says:

    Wait, I could be wrong….

  25. Xisithrus says:

BTW 300$ does not solve the disparity problem. Its an insult to working people that it takes a market crash in order for them tp realise a paltry tax break. I’d rather the government keep that money and apply it to SCHIP or UNICEF or Vets who need help.

Will they be turning over a new “page”???

More like turning over a “pig” I think! Uh…BBQ?

  27. piltdown says:

Xisithrus: It’s not even a tax break. It will either be nothing more than an advance on anything you’d already be getting back, or it would be like the last time they tried to brib….stimulate the economy, and you’ll have to claim it as income and pay taxes on it.
